Why has it taken me so long to discover this place? I’ve heard people raving about this place for awhile so its always been on my list to try but for one reason or another we didn’t. Then I went to Atlanta and had Jeni’s ice cream and was determined to find something as delicious… and thankfully I found a different delicious in Sylas and Maddy’s. Every time we go we try a few different flavors and always seem to fall back to Da Bomb. A close second is the Ladybug Crunch because it combines 2 of my favorites — strawberry ice cream and Oreos! This place has quickly become our family’s favorite dessert spot!

We found Sylas & Maddy’s in Lawrence many(many, MANY) moons ago, before kids, before marriage, before(real) jobs and before graduating college. We were on a double date with the man who would end up marrying my wife and me, and his wife. We’ve been to the locations in Lawrence and this one in Olathe dozens upon dozens of times since then. S&M’s(take your mind out of the gutter!) makes the best ice cream flavors I’ve ever had. By now, I’m sure I’ve tried the entire, rotating cases of flavors a few times over, and I can’t tell you which is my overall favorite. That’s not to say that I’ve had a cup or cone of every flavor… oh no — they are more than happy to spoon you up a big bite of any and all samples you could ever wish for! Take advantage, folks — shop around a little before settling on that very generous double scoop! That said, among my favorites are Kansas Twister, Gold Dust, Gold Rush(yes, a little different), and Peanut Butter Freak. Our kids love the brightly-colored Cookie Monster and Cotton Candy. But seriously, it’s REALLY hard to go wrong. You know the product is legit when there’s a line out the door even in the dead of winter, which frequently happens. But, don’t worry, the baristas of creamy ice are nothing if not swift professionals who move from one to the next in line expediently. Stick around, even if you pull up and the line is long! I’m a cup kind of guy, but my wife and kids have had both kinds of cones — cake and waffle — and vouch. They’re located right around the corner from the AMC in Olathe, just as you turn into the big lot from Strang Line! Check ‘em out!

I love Sylas and Maddy’s! Fresh ice cream in so many flavors that it’s hard to decide on just one! They do change out the flavors seasonally, which is great. I loooooove their cinnamon ice cream and it’s great during the fall… real cinnamon, not the artificial candy cinnamon. Pair it with a scoop of chocolate and you’ll be in heaven! They also have great sorbet if you want something a little lighter. They will make a shake or malt using any flavor. A junior scoop is the perfect size. The single is great for sharing and the double is for those«Don’t mind me, I’m just eating my emotions» moments.

Great creamy ice cream! I loved the Kansas Twister and Gold Dust flavors but a few tips: 1) Sugar cone was a bit sweet for my taste so perhaps just a cup will work 2) Call ahead to check the winter hours as it differs from the posted hours on Unilocal

GET A WAFFLECONE! I’ll be honest, I’m not much of an ice cream lover — I love it in small quantities. This was great ice cream, but the waffle cone? AMAZING! It was crispy, airy, and delicious. I’d almost rather just have the cone which we discovered contained a Whopper at the tip to keep ice cream from dripping out — genius. What a great little place!

Sylas and Maddies is great! My wife and I stopped spending money at B & R due to a terrible experience that was not handled correctly by management or corporate and have always loved small, local establishments.(FYI– check out the Art of Flavors of you go to Las Vegas) This is real home made ice cream and it is creamy! Unlike what you get in the supermarket it is thick, creamy and some of the coolest and craziest Flavors you could think of! I fell in love with the German Chocolate and never leave without taking home some sweet cream. If you haven’t tried it. Take a trip and you will not regret it.

Delicious and you can tell that’s it homemade! So much yummier than boxed ice cream. Love the cute names! Butter brickle was loved by all. Place is small, but is sure to succeed and thrive.

I love this place. Of Course I love any non-chain place that gives me a variety of Ice Cream with fun names. When you walk in you’ll get the smell of freshly made waffle cones, it smells so good. They have some fun mixtures! Just keep in mind they won’t have all flavors at all times they mix it up. The only downfall is they need a bigger place to seat more people. There are only about 3 tables that seat 2 – 3 people on the inside, and if it is nice outside there is seating out there as well.

I guess the reason I had never been to Sylas & Maddy’s is because it is a bit hard to find! Tucked away in a strip mall that itself is difficult to enter, I did pass it twice before I figured out how to get to it. But I will cut to the chase, it is well worth the effort! You have to love a place named after the owner’s pets! Now that is down home homemade stuff. After the amazing creamy ice cream(creamy as coming out of the back yard churn), there are a couple of things to point out. They do not have sugar cones, but they do have wonderful waffle cones! Thicker and more flavorful than sugar cones, do not be tempted to ask for a cup — you will miss out! Getting back to creamy, I have always found that the more creamy ice cream is the quicker it melts(with the possible exception of Ted Drews), and this is the case here. Be quick, and pick up more than one napkin. Prices are exactly what they should be for the taste and experience. Coming back? just try to stop me!

Busy place, but yummy ice cream. I rarely take the time to enjoy an ice cream shop outting, but I prefer Sylas & Maddi’s for the unique flavors. Fun place for date night, or an afternoon treat with the kiddos.

After a couple hours at Cosmic jump with our super active preschoolers, a friend told me we HAD to come here and get ice cream after. I assumed the place was new because I’ve been in the shopping center before and had never noticed it. We waited a few minutes for our turn, which gave us plenty of time to look over the menu. Our kids both ordered lemonade sherbet in a cake cone. With the junior option, that’s the only choice so I ordered the banana pudding in a cup. It was okay, but not amazing by any stretch of the imagination. Plus there was no where for us to sit because the two large groups before us took over all of the seats and tables. Of course after we left, I discovered that they were in the entertainment book I recently received(in July they’re only $ 5 with free shipping — well worth it!!) so we might head back just to use it if we’re in the area.

DONOTGOIFYOUAREALLERGICTOGLUTEN! Stopped here since it was the only place open on the 4th of July around us. Lot’s of options and always looks busy but it made my belly very upset. Not sure if it has gluten in their basic ice cream or what. If they did, it’s not true homemade ice cream. Normally places will give you a «pup cup» if you have a dog in the car-not this place. She wanted me to buy a junior for almost $ 3, instead I had her give me a small sample spoon. I ordered the reese’s ice cream, jason got the snickers and I can’t remember what my niece ordered. It was pretty disorderly in there, it would have been easy to walk out without paying. Cute place Busy– typical Johnson County parking and access(a cluster) No Pup Cup Made me, a gluten free person, sick. Disorderly

Homemade hard style ice cream. Sweet cream is the base for almost every flavor. They had a good 20+ flavors available. Three sizes including junior, small and medium. The junior was plenty for a snack. You can get it in a cup or waffle cone they make in house. About five people working which was sufficient on a busy night and they were able to accurately tell us everything in each flavor. We were allowed to taste any flavor. Well lit out door seating. Free water cups.

Since my review, I’ve tried a lot of other ice cream places in the area. This is still hands down the best.

Can’t resist homemade ice cream!!! And Sylas & Maddy’s has some darn good ice cream! I was quite surprised to stumble upon this local establishment smack dab in the middle of strip mall central in Olathe. They make all their ice creams and cones in house. The flavors are good… not too crazy, but interesting enough that I sampled plenty. :) Lots of candy bar mix ins, cake flavors, coffee, etc. Add to the delicious ice cream the fact that the staff were very friendly. They are proud of their product and happy to let you sample as much as your heart desires. Glad we found this place, and I’m looking for excuses to come back!

I love this place! The ice cream is all really good and inexpensive too. I love taking all my friends here and they love it as well. I first discovered Sylas & Maddy’s in Lawrence and then my friend told me there was one in Overland Park which I was stoked about because I don’t want to drive all the way to Lawrence for ice cream. They change out a few of their flavors every now and then but the main/popular ones are almost always available. My favorite flavors are… Green Tea — Which is only offered in Lawrence sometimes Mint Chip — Mint ice cream with chocolate chips Strawberry Bug(?) — Strawberry ice cream with Oreo bits Also, on Tuesday from 6PM — Close they have college night so if you show your college ID you can buy a single dish/cone and get one free(the other party member has to be there though).

Charming little ice-cream parlor located near the huge AMC complex, it feels old-fashioned in the best, most inviting sense of that word. Roomy & brightly lit, with the delicious smell of handmade waffle cones assaulting your olfactory sense from the moment you crack open the door, everything here has a nostalgic appeal that begs you to jettison the diet in favor of these creamy delights. There’s a wide variety of flavors, from traditional to creative, and they don’t mind giving you a generous taste or three while you dither. Scoops are generous, and the price very reasonable. I have a hunch it’s going to become a post-movie destination.

Sylas & Maddy’s Rocky Road just rocked my world! I’ve been eating Rocky Road ice cream since I was a kid and tonight I had the best Rocky Road I’ve ever tasted! It was LOADED with marshmallows, which is my favorite part! Also, I was impressed that the girls behind the counter were able to move the line so quickly! Great service! I asked if they had Rocky Road and the girl waiting on me actually went to the back to get it! I was so impressed with her customer service!
