Tots & Blocks Nursery School

I enrolled my son in their Summer Program. I was told to print out the application online and bring a deposit for half the semester. I paid in cash (money order), and when I was called back by the director, she wanted to ascertain if my child would be «right for them». I asked what wouldn’t make him «right for them» because I have a special needs child. (His special need is selective mutism and nervous tics kind of like Tourette’s syndrome). I was told point blank that they couldn’t take any children that required «constant supervision».Ummm.don’t ALL 5 year olds in their program require that?
She informed me that they could not spare the staff to pay any «special attention» to my child. I requested a refund. She told me that she didn’t know how a money order worked or if she could even «cash it». Once I gave her a quick tutorial in how money orders worked, she said she’d send me a check. I waited nearly 2 weeks for the check, and just found out from their bank that they couldn’t honor the check. Irate, I called them back because that money was supposed to go to another daycare. I haven’t heard back from them yet.
So, no money, and no daycare, which for me, means no work next week. Nice. They should be shut down. Also, as a side note, the daycare is a bunch of trailers put together. Looks a little institutional.

This place seemed like a kid factory. The assistant teacher in my son’s classroom was a teenage girl looking very uninterested, dressed in a tight miniskirt and shortest of short tops. There were toys everywhere the first day we stopped by for a visit.
They were very adamant about not letting me walk my son to his class saying he would react badly and have a hard time. My son isn’t at all clingy. In fact I worry that he isn’t more afraid of walking away from me! Still, I wasn’t allowed to walk him to class. He was ushered away super quick. The entire staff seemed uninterested and distracted.
The end of the rope for me was when I picked my son up one day and he was crying. The teacher came to my car window and told me that they had to take his sticker away from him because he refused to switch tasks when they told him to and that he needed to listen better. He was 2 ½ at the time.
He is now in Montessori school and hasn’t had one issue. They allow children to work on what they want, when they want, within a basic structure. My son is super happy in the new environment.
