History
Established in 1977.
In 1799, a Sea Captain’s House was built on Main Street in Old Saybrook, CT. The house was owned by Captain Whittlesey, a civic leader in the Saybrook Colony. His home was known for its Georgian style porch and detailed federal interior. In 1977, Keith Bolles and his family purchased the 4,000 square foot house with the vision of opening a home furnishings store. The business grew and in 1987 several «Barns» were added to the original house. The addition included more furniture showrooms and added space for the hardware shop, office and warehouse. In 1997, the Saybrook Country Barn added another extension for retail and office space. Keith had greater ideas for the store when he bought the piece of property that lies directly across from the stores original building. The new building that was erected on the corner of main street was inspired by Georgian architecture of the mid-19th century, using handcrafted details and materials that would simulate a historic environment.
