Saybrook Country Barn

I’m writing this review about the Apparel Shop right next door to Aspen Restaurant within Saybrook Country Barn. I had been in the store three times in the last month and every time felt like I was being watched like a hawk by the sales associates. Whenever I turned I felt like all eyes were on me. I’m almost 40 years old and this is one of the first times I’ve ever felt this way. When I would ask about upcoming sales they were very reserved and snotty as though it was this huge secret. With the prices as high as they are originally who can afford it unless it’s on sale. I think next times I’ll just go across the street to Marshall’s and spend ¹⁄₃^rd of the price.
Oh yeah and remember all sales final on the limited sale item selection so you better try on. Even more annoying.

Don’t assume that going to a reputable furniture store and spending a significant amount of money comes with a guarantee of customer satisfaction. When my custom ordered chair arrived and the fit and dimensions did not resemble the floor room sample in any way, I never doubted that ultimately I would end up satisfied with my new purchase. Instead when I contacted customer service I was dismissed, insulted, and told to just love the chair I got. I was ultimately left with the choice of having to pay for modifications for a chair that did not resemble what I ordered. I will never return to SCB and make sure I tell everyone of the horrible service we received.

The Saybrook Country Barn is a pretty nice place. Not cheap, but nice.
I normally come here for furniture but they sell all kinds of stuff for your home like rugs, curtains, bedding and countless smaller items (some lame, some nice).
It’s definitely got a «country» feel so if you were expecting modern or contemporary things this probably isn’t the place for you.
It’s a pretty big place and actually in two separate buildings. In one building they actually have a small selection of fairly upscale clothing items (now for men and women) and a restaurant, though I haven’t eaten there so I can’t comment on it.
They have probably the best selection of furniture around from several different brands. Some people think it’s expensive but I guess it’s all relative. If you were comparing this place to Bob’s Discount Furniture then yeah it’s expensive. But most of it is made domestically and you can order specific types of wood, finishes, hardware, fabrics, etc. just the way you want it. So I put SCB in the «you get what you pay for» category.
The people who work there are friendly and helpful. I’m guessing based on the way I’m treated that they don’t work on commission but I guess I could be wrong. It can get busy on weekends so it may be hard to get help if it’s really busy. But you can usually eventually find someone to take your money.
Overall it’s a pretty good place if it fits your style.

Speaking for their furniture department, Saybrook Country Barn is home décor porn. All the furniture is so perfectly staged that I feel like I am in a dream. Though I have a Bob’s Discount/Craig’s List/​Goodwill budget, I get a lot of decorating inspiration from this store.
If I was married to Mark Zuckerberg, then this would be the place I would buy my furniture and get their talented, friendly staff to decorate my house.
It is also one of those places I wouldn’t mind working at. :)

Wow, this place rocks! Grab a glass of wine before/​after shopping for that special outfit or a living room full of gorgeous furniture. A must see if in the area. Service is friendly and attentive. Easy to find, not far off route 95.

This is exactly the sort of shopping you’d expect to find in Old Saybrook. There is a nice selection of home interiors and furniture to choose from: some very over-​priced and you ponder whether you’d see the same thing across the street at Marshalls as well as many pieces you haven’t seen in other stores.
The entire area expands beyond the Country Barn and has some interesting shopping. It depends on your style and what you are looking to find. I think it’s good for a walk through, but I can’t say that you’ll always find something. If you’re looking to just shop this is a great place to do it; and if you find something all the better.
The stores are very neat and despite the expansiveness of the area you always seem to be able to find an employee around if you need assistance.
There is also a restaurant on sight so you can easily spend a few hours here.

Always enjoy walking around Saybrook Country Barn. Great staff and quality furniture. We love the couch we bought from them a few years ago and all of the small furnishings we’ve bought since. I look forward to going back soon!

Love SCB! Over the past few years I have purchased rugs, office furniture, window treatments, fabric, wall hangings and accessories. I do not enjoy decorating so working with Marcia (design consultant at SCB) makes it easy and fun. She has come to my home to make suggestions and measure. Marcia is a talented decorator but she is also very professional, organized, follows-​up and is patient. If she doesn’t know the answer she finds out and calls back usually the same day or within 24 hours. I highly recommend SCB for quality, but also be sure to ask for Marcia when you walk in the door. It will make your experience at SCB so much better.

I hate giving local businesses a poor review but after several visits I left less than satisfied. The staff is unappreciative of its customers and does very little to help you. They are also unclear about their policies, including return policies, so be careful! I wanted a store so quaint and homey to be awesome but the staff was so rude, nothing was adorable about the experience. I’ll be shopping elsewhere to decorate.

I love to go to Saybrook Country Barn and poke around on the weekend. They have a great selection of everything from furniture to draperies (with unbelievable custom fabric selections) as well as a great little clothing boutique with some great pieces you would never find in a department store. They also have a neat little gourmet section with neat kitchen décor and gourmet food items.
Overall it is very fun to meander through the Saybrook Country Barn and clothing boutique, and don’t be fooled by the words «Saybrook» or «boutique» above, the prices here are very reasonable and the employees are there (mostly with smiles on their faces) ready to help where they can.
