Love this place! Attentive service and always very friendly. Best everything bagel I’ve ever had. Always toasted to perfection and seasoned perfectly! I have tried dozens of bagel shops looking for the perfect bagel and this place wins hands down!

I have been going to this bagel shop for years and never had a problem. It is almost always busy, but I am always waited on in order by courteous employees. Bagels are very good and egg sandwiches are outstanding. I don’t know the owners personally, but they are always there working hard and watching over their store. I just don’t understand the negative reviews.

Favorite bagel store in the area! Egg ham & cheese on a bagel or a roll is very good. The raisin and walnut spread is also delicious for a sweet breakfast. The egg salad is also always fresh. Great coffee as well!
It is extremely popular. There is always a line on mornings.
Service isn’t the happy smiley good morning service, but workers there have been there awhile and people who go there are regulars.
I have gone to this bagel store for as long as I can remember, and no one has ever cut me in line. Staff has always served people in the order they come in.

Wife and I were passing through and desperately needed some breakfast and coffees. Service was very quick for a double egg bacon and cheese on a roll, the bacon was plentiful, and the sandwich was hot and delicious. Wife got a jalapeño bagel with scallion cream cheese which was above average bagel (not the best, but better than most). Both hot and ice coffees were great. Prices were extremely reasonable.
Read all the negative reviews about service after visiting, and am rather surprised. The staff was very friendly and efficient for a busy Saturday morning. Maybe they took the reviews and changed?! Either way, I would go back if I was in that area again.

This place is great. Excellent food and the staff is always very nice. Best bagels in northern nj. We get breakfast and lunch there. The coffee Is very good also.

Bagels are not great and the service is very slow. Plenty of better bagel places in neighboring towns.
The owner also seemed very unfriendly for some strange reason towards us. Overall we would not come back unless we had no other choice.

Avoid! Everyone is on the money w their reviews. The employees are slow as fu*k and they really don’t smile. Not one of them! They actually passed back and forth while I stood there w a friend looking like an idiot for someone to help me for at least a few minutes. And the place was nowhere near mobbed. Food is fine but seriously… you can get a decent bagel anywhere else and not get the tude this place offers.

Working in the area has forced me into trying business I wouldn’t normally give a go, Butterworth’s is one of those places. After my recent visit I decided to write this review.
Bagels are pretty standard, not the worst I have had by a long shot; just OK. The main complaint with this store is the service, the service is terrible. The workers are lifeless and dead eyed and could care less about you or your business. Even the «owners» kind of just stare at you when you are ordering. Everything with a sigh. Not a smile or a «Thank you» ever…
The tip jars are light for a reason.
Pre-​slicing Lox for «sliders» is a sin, It would take 2 minutes to put lox on a mini bagel.

I am so pissed with their attitude and their service that I could give them a 0 star.
My friend and I (both brown and off Indian origin), wanted to have some bagels and decided to go to this store with predominantly a caucasian clientelle. My friend who was visting me took three pictures (one of them being on the outside with the name of the bagel store, one of them being different cream cheese spreads and the third one that of the menu. Absolutely no people were photographed). We got our bagel and were walking out and was first stopped by a women who happens to be a store employee. She asked if we were taking pictures and I said «Yes, we were taking pictures as my friend from India wanted to checkout a bagel store (we dont have one in india) to check in to facebook and told her no people were photographed». I also asked her if it was a problem and offered to delete the pictures for which she said «No, we have had other people photograph us in the past and they wanted to know what was going on».
As we got in to the car, we got a big guy stopping us again, claiming to be the owner of the store who was rude to the core. He started with «No one comes to my store and takes pictures in here without my permission». When I was explaining to him «My friend was from India and he wanted to get a couple of pictures and we would be fine deleting them», he responded with expletives that «I dont give a f*** where your friend is from» and to the shock of both of us grabbed my friends phone. I told him, he had no right to touch my friends phone as my friend had no reason to take pictures of his store. By this time, there were people staring at us and the owner decided to give the phone back and started walking in to the store. I told him «You just lost 2 customers», his response was ‘I dont care. I will be here twenty years from now”. The words from his mouth are that he does not care about customers, not mine.
The bagels were average and over priced. They support a lot of local teams and have a good patronage and hence the cocky attitude.

The assembly line method for efficient service was created for a reason. My lazy, hungover Saturday morning turned exciting upon the thought of eating a delicious bagel, cream cheese and lox. And to be honest, I was all around disappointed.
Food: Everything Bagel was WAY too salty. Good morning iced coffee, hit the spot.
Service: I had 4 bagels to order. Seemingly they take them one at a time, and only one person can help assemble said bagels. I get frustrated. I ask one of the young ladies to receive my other 2 orders. She says she cant help me because I need to be helped by whomever is meant to be helping me (that person being MIA because he was off buttering or toasting or doing something). The manager notes I am a bit frustrated. He askes have I ordered, I say yes and need to order more. He says to tell my guy. Root cause of my problem, after speaking to 3 people, remained unsolved until I finally netted me another person all the while, customers were swooping in, ordering, and leaving, while I waited and waited.
The place will do fine because they have a local, loyal staff. But to take itself to the next level, it’ll need to think about serving people with less attitude and with better efficiency in mind. Maybe its just New Jersey, and I’m too Hawaiian or something for this place.
Overall, I was just disappointed.

Go to place for bagels at my in-​laws. Dad swings in each morning on the weekends and gets the full size and mini plain bagels. They are always awesome, great rind and great chewy centers. We’re fans!

Pretty standard mom and pop bagel place. It’s tucked in the strip mall next to the mailing store.
The chicken or tuna salad in a bagel is a pretty tasty lunch.
Never had a problem here.

Good bagels. Good salads. Good vanilla-​hazlenut iced coffee. Quick service. Friendly service? Not so much.

Butterworth bagles are really delicious and they have a good selection of bagels and cream cheeses! I love coming here and picking up a dozen or so. Service is always quick too.
