$ 170 later and left without having my only reason for going unresolved (greys). Stylist didn’t even check and I naively assumed the color had taken.

It’s taken me too long to write this review, largely as I had finally found the perfect stylist and stopped coming to Unilocal to look for a new salon!
I moved to the DC area over four years ago and tried five salons in that time (three in DC and two in Alexandria). They ranged from being pretty good to not great. I have mid to long hair with blonde highlights and you’d think that would be pretty easy to style/​color, but apparently it’s not! It’s actually really difficult to get natural looking highlights with a cut that’s complementary.
I had tried this salon in their old King St. location a few years back, but hadn’t clicked with the stylist. But, during my visit I had sat beside another stylist (Casey) and really liked the work she was doing. I considered coming in to see her, but didn’t really want to deal with the awkwardness of dropping the stylist I had seen in the past. However, after many salons later, during a desperate search ahead of an event that I wanted to get a great cut for, I remembered Casey. Since years had passed, I thought I’d give her a try.
Casey is awesome! She is friendly, professional and most importantly, super skilled. I didn’t realize this existed, but there’s actually a «southern» way of doing blonde highlights (i.e., bright but very natural looking), which is what I had been wanting all this time. Well, Casey is an expert at getting this result. Every cut and color she has done for me since I’ve started seeing her has been outstanding. I must say that I’m pretty hard to please when it comes to hair, but I have really been happy with everything Casey has done for me. She understands hair and will recommend cuts and color that she thinks will work best. I really trust her judgement and can relax and let her do her thing, instead of wondering where the stylist is going with the cut. This is what a great stylist should do!
I don’t really think that Casey needs any more good reviews because she is BUSY. So, if you do want to experience her magic, you’ll need to book way ahead!

Another great cut at PR last night. This time I had Mauricio and he rocked cutting the bangs back into my hair and also helped take a lot of the volume out.
So far I’ve had awesome experiences with Anna, Lorenzo, and Mauricio!

I agree with Matthew T. Mauricio is fantastic. I am a female who has had short hair of some sort for the past 15 years. I have lived in 3 countries and 5 states and had numerous haircuts. I have liked many of them but I like Mauricio’s the best. I have now been twice — the first could have been a fluke, but it wasn’t. He paid attention to exactly what I wanted, focused on the details and gave me a fabulous cut that grew out so well I wasn’t sure I needed another cut. When I went in anyway for my scheduled appointment I was so pleased with the result! I rarely say that walking out of a salon or the next day, but Mauricio delivers consistently amazing work.

Lorenzo is the best thing that happened to my hair since moving to the area. Good listener, very particular and highly skilled. Plus, a great guy with a great easy going personality. He makes sure everything is right with my hair before I leave the salon. My hair looks amazing from color and cut to highlights. I get a ton of compliments and stopped all the time by people who admire my hair. Love him. He is very popular! So I book my appointments way in advance.

What can I say, Im a big fan of this well established company. I have been coming to the Old town locations for over a decade and have nothing but great things to say. They always make sure your checked in, see if you need a drink and the staff is always professional. I have never once heard any negativity from anyone.
The stylists are top notch as well. They always listen to what your asking for and work with you to make sure you look your best and feel the best about your style. Thank you for all that you do PR!

I used to go to the PR in Bristow, which is a great place, but I moved and tried out this location about a year ago. The guy who cut my hair was constantly distracted and because of this didn’t do a very good job. He was paying attention to other employees and customers coming and going, and I didn’t feel like he was really paying attention to what he was doing with my hair. He didn’t seem very confident in his abilities, which made me uncomfortable. The cut was ok, but not great. If I go back to this location I will give someone else a try.

I set up an appointment for color at the location in Old Town as a new customer. I was placed with Connie who they told me was a senior stylist with tons of color experience. When I arrived I showed her a picture and commented that how her hair was colored was what I was looking for. After she was done I was not happy at all and she offered to have me come back the next day to fix it. I went back the next day and showed her the picture again and explained what I wanted. I also said if it was not realistic I had no problem going with a plan b, but she assured me she could do it. Step by step I kept asking if it would turn out like we had discussed and she kept assuring me it would. She sent me to get it washed and that was the last I saw of her. When I came back to the chair the woman who had washed my hair was attempting to styling it. The color was nothing like we had discussed and my stylist was no where to be found in order to discuss it. I walked out extremely upset. I called back later that day to ask to speak with a manager. The customer service manager called me back and I explained what had happened. She was not the most sensitive, at one point saying «it’s just hair» but she did offer me a refund. I would not suggest going to this Connie for color. I eventually went to a different salon where they fixed the color easily in one visit.

This review is for Rachel… Like most ladies, I am very particular about my hair and who I let touch it. When I moved to the DC area I would salon hop because nobody could manage to do my hair the way I wanted. I initially visited PR at Partners based off a recommendation from a coworker for another stylists. I read Rachel’s bio online and thought she would be a great fit — and she has! I have had nearly everything done with Rachel — short bob, grown out into long layers, all over dark color, highlights, ombré… I love to try it all and she has definitely proven her talents. The only downside is, because she is so good at what she does, she can be hard to get into, but she does work both Saturday and Sunday which is really nice for those who work M-​F jobs. And even though I no longer live within walking distance to the salon I still continue to only allow Rachel to touch my hair!

I used to go to PR@Partners Metro Center, but recently switched to the Old Town Alexandria location. Although I was happy with my service at Metro Center, my new stylist, Christine, gave me the single BEST cut & color of my life — and she did it while allowing me to zone out, and not chit-​chat, like you usually do during your visit.
Christine and the staff were attuned to my needs and the needs of others to experience a visit the way we wanted — rather than forcing conversation awkwardly when it was not welcome. If I had been up for talking, I know Christine would have engaged me in a friendly and warm manner, as she has that type of personality.
All that said — even if we had made awkward small talk, I would still have come out of there LOVING my cut & color. She really knows her stuff, mixing the right blend to tone down the brassiness of my natural hair, and give me a glow that begs to say I’ve never colored it — I’m just naturally blessed! The cut skims my shoulders (I like my hair long), and falls in naturally beautiful subtle layers that made me really want to wear it down for the first time in years.
The King Street locations is, sunny, but sheltered from the hub-​bub that can happen with lots of foot traffic etc., and creates an oasis from the day-​to-​day cares of work and business and politics, and all that makes the DC area run in high gear.
Christine works at more than one location (I believe the other is Chantilly), but it’s worth calling King Street and asking — if you might want to see her elsewhere. You really cannot go wrong with any of the stylists that PR@Partners employs. They attract and keep top shelf talent.

From start to finish I loved my experience at this salon. The décor, the fact that they have you fill out paperwork so your stylist not only understands what you’re looking for but it takes the stress of not getting exactly what you want out of the experience entirely.
The reclining massage chairs while getting your hair washed is probably the greatest thing to ever happen in a hair salon. My stylist, April, hit the nail on the head with my haircut and didn’t try to sell any overpriced products to me which I appreciated as well. If you’re looking for a trim or a whole new look I definitely think you should try this place!

I LOVE this place. After moving to DC I felt like I searched for and wide for a great salon and a great stylist. I work in Alexandria, VA and started going to Rachel about a year ago. I have never had a haircut I haven’t loved. She always listens to what I want, makes great recommendations, and amazing attention to detail. The salon always takes care of you — offers coffee, water, hangs your coat in the winter, etc. I would recommend this salon — especially Rachel — to anybody!

The reason I first decided to make an appointment here was because I heard they had reasonable prices for the area. I have long, thick hair but my cut & style only costs $ 55. The only downside is that they only can do cash tips. It’s only a problem because I usually don’t carry cash so I have to consciously remember to take cash with me.
I have been going here for about six months now and it is the first time i’ve ever bothered to stay with one hair stylist. The first time I came here I had an appointment with Casey who was great, which is the reason I decided to book another appointment in the first place. When I made the next appointment though Casey was booked up and there was an opening with Donn so I made it with him. I have never had a problem with previous stylists but what made Donn stand out is that he actually explains to me the process and the purpose for which shampoos or other products he is using. I never used to use any products on my hair other then shampoo, conditioner, and the occasional drug store product but now he shows me things that actually work. Thus, I now have a better understanding of how to properly take care of my hair. I never feel pressured to buy products but as i’m gaining an understanding of what works really well on my hair I have purchased some of them.
The receptionists are always friendly and offer water when you arrive too. I have also never had issues scheduling appointments like other reviewers have said. I just make an appointment when I finish my hair cut and then reschedule it if a conflict comes up.

After growing out my hair for over a year and with summer here, I decided to chop off my hair and go shoulder-​length. So I simply called a week in advance, the staff was super helpful and assisted me in booking an appointment with Casey.
This location is great, it’s right in old towne, but definitely keep an eye out for their blue and white sign so you don’t miss it. The salon itself was small, but tidy and for a Friday afternoon they weren’t crazy busy either which I prefer. I was pleasantly greeted, signed in, and offered water/​coffee/​tea while I waited.
After the stylist finished with her prior client, it was time for my appt. Casey was great, I told her what I was thinking and she evaluated my hair, and even brought out a book of examples to show me what would work best for my curly hair and we got started. Since I was cutting so much off, she first cut it to a little longer than my shoulders and then confirmed with me if I liked it or if I wanted to go shorter, I proceeded to go shorter, but I appreciated that she was working with me to get the look I wanted. When it was cut she also gave me two options, ½ a blowout or a full blowout with flat ironing. Since my hair is naturally curly, it made the most sense to do the ½ blowout since I normally air dry my hair and was looking for something low-​maintenance, again she was awesome at providing me reasonable options && I love my hair!
I definitely recommend Casey && I’ll be sure to go back to her. (=
Bonus — the company has a referral program and gave me 2 little cards I could share with friends to save $ 10 if they try out the salon and that can save me $ on mine too. I think that’s a great deal !

I have a pretty basic haircut however my stylist rachel is always accomodating and makes sure I leave happy with my style. She will even clean my beard up if I ask her! A real professional salon.

I have been getting a men’s hair cut with Don for about two years and he is about the only reason why I continue to return. He does a great job cutting men’s hair. The front desk staff coordinate appointments are about as rude and unprofessional as you can find in DC Metro area.
When attempting to reschedule an appointment you are looking at about 5 — 6 weeks wait time unless you go with someone else. I understand Don getting booked up, what I can not understand is when I asked for booking assistant to please ask him to call me, the response I was given was that he does not take calls from customers or book his own appointments. When I asked to speak to the Salon Manager, of course that person was not available and they won’t take messages either.
Oh well I guess its time to find another place for a hair cut!

Their new location is very close to the old one, about 2 blocks down the street. The new space is nice, but I’m not sold on the one big open room with all the stylists next to each other (no distinguishable space). I’ve seen Rachel twice, once for color, once for cut. She’s my third stylist in the area, and the best so far. She really listens to what I’m looking for and strives to meet my expectations. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5: you can’t tip on credit cards (which is more common now), and on my last visit they were out of the product I wanted to buy. They said they’d call when more came in, I haven’t received a call yet and it’s been 6 weeks. I’ll return as long as Rachel works here.

Is the Old Towne location closed? I called and no one answered. The location is boarded up and locked.
