History
Established in 1963.
Shaker’s has been serving the Olmsted communities since 1963 when Fred Shaker opened a small market in a quonset hut on the corner of Bagley and Stearns Roads. Fred quickly became known for his fresh cut meats, community spirit and excellent customer service. He later replaced the quonset hut with an 8000 square foot store on the same site. As the rural community of Olmsted Township continued to grow so did Fred. In 1985 he built a strip plaza behind the store and moved Shaker’s into an 18,000 square foot space. In 1992, Fred further expanded the plaza and Shaker’s IGA into a 32,000 sq ft. space. Fred would be honored in 1992 as the IGA International Retailer of the Year. Fred Shaker retired in 1999 and sold Shaker’s to its current owners, Phil and Mary Jo Moody. They continue Fred Shaker’s tradition of quality products, superior customer service and supporting the local community.
