Specialties
A planned curriculum which meets the social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of each child will be provided. A balance of activities allowing for individual attention, small groups and large groups will be provided on a weekly basis. The weekly schedule will provide exposure to various concepts in math, reading, writing, language arts, social studies, science, health and safety, art, creative drama, feelings, music, and large muscle. All activities will strive to stimulate creativity and promote the growth of the whole child.

Established in 1979.
We, the owners of Great Beginnings CD& DCC, are working together as directors and program supervisors.
Joanne Ponzo is a graduate of University of Northern Colorado with a BA is Special Education and Psychology. Graduate work was done through Nova University where a MA in Child Care Administration was obtained.
Patricia Sarmento is a graduate of Brigham Young University, Hawaii Campus, with a BA in Child Development and Family Relationships and Elementary Education. Graduate work was done at the University of Northern Colorado where a MA in Early Child Education was obtained.
Combined, we have 89+ years of experience working with young children, in the designing of programs and in supervisory roles.
We have attended, and presented different in-service training for centers and WA State DSHS. Also, we have taught ECE classes at local community colleges. We have been affiliated with various centers in the area in helping design and develop their respective programs.

An independent Child Care Center located in a quiet Olympia West Side neighborhood, Great Beginnings has been serving Thurston County since 1979.
Pat Sarmento, M.A. and Joanne Ponzo, M.S. both hold Masters Degrees in Early Childhood Education and are the Founders/Owners/Directors.
