Luxe For Style

The only reason this place gets even one star is because the stylists are awesome! I see Marla or Elisa, and both are EXCELLENT. This review has nothing to do with my hair, but with the customer service and overall performance as a business.
Their «Prepay» Policy:
Last year, I had one no-​show appointment due to a calendar mistake, and as a result have been punished ever since. When I tried scheduling my last appointment, all of a sudden they decided to tell me that I had to prepay for my service due to that one no-​show (a year ago). I could understand if I no-​showed frequently, but once? This policy is absurd and just bad business. Luxe is a customer service industry, and when you’re paying anywhere from $ 100 – 200 to get your hair done, you expect some flexibility. The policy doesn’t indicate what happens if you have to reschedule, or if the stylist reschedules, so as far as I know, they just keep your money.
Scheduling:
Half of the time when I call Luxe, nobody answers. When you work full-​time, it’s frustrating to not be able to get through to a business that has a receptionist when you have a few minutes free to make an appointment. I have an easier time booking a doctor appointment than I do with Luxe. You have to book 6 weeks out in advance if you need an evening or weekend appointment. Also, their receptionist and stylists have booked my appointments before, and have mixed up the date, causing a huge inconvenience (waiting six weeks to hear «oops! sorry!» is not okay). I have a friend who goes there too, and she said this has happened to her on more than one occasion. Apparently, there is no repercussion for them to make a mistake on their calendar, but when the paying customer makes it, you now have to prepay your services.
Parking:
It’s difficult to find street parking downtown, and most appointments take longer than 2 hours. Usually the stylists will run out and fill your meter, but it’s still frustrating.
Bad Manners:
I emailed Luxe a cordial email covering what I covered above, in the hopes that someone would contact me and at least apologize. Nobody replied. I will never go back here, which is unfortunate because I love Marla and Elisa. I’ve told several friends about my experience here, and they’ve since boycotted Luxe as well.
I now go to Première Salon & Spa by the Farmer’s Market, and they are WONDERFUL. You can grab a Batdorf & Bronson coffee, get your hair done, then cross the street and buy some fresh veggies… and it’s all Aveda products! Win win win win!

My stylist is Marla. She is amazing at hair. I came in with a very blunt «ombré» that looked terrible from an other salon in desperate need of help. It was brassy and ugly. She worked her magic and fixed it to what I wanted in the first place. Blended very nicely and was not brassy at all. Today she cut my hair and did an amazing job. I showed her pictures of what I wanted and it looks better than I imagined. She is also professional and very nice.

Had my hair done by Marla, they do great work here for a very reasonable price. I also love how cute the whole shop is.

Not Impressed, stylists are somewhat rude and over priced a bit.

Marla is amazing! I literally came in with hair up to my butt and spontaneously wanted to cut it short. I mind you, i wanted it to be up to my shoulders. Showed her a couple pictures and she literally knew instantly what I wanted. She’s amazing! Even though my hair was being very stubborn I’m glad she worked through it :) definitely found my permanent hair stylist in Olympia, WA!

I come and see Marla and she is absolutely amazing. She is so bubbly and doesn’t give you what she thinks will look better she gives you what you want but better. I won’t go see anyone else. Love love love her. If you are looking for a new fun look I would absolutely recommend her.

Marla is an amazing stylist! I have much confidence in her techniques! She listened to what I wanted and she provided the results. She also gave me advice and recommendations on products — a little hair education :) Definitely check her out. She does great cuts and colors! Her balayage is on key! You will walk out feeling gorgeous!
The salon is clean and adorable! I adore the feel of the place. I was on the upper loft which had some natural lighting from the skylight. Great ambience… The salon has a vintage character!

I’m in love with my hair again! Marla is great, the salon is great– sip a little latte while you read magazines or take in the cool architecture and features of the building.

Taylor is amazing. There is nothing that she cannot do. I recommended a friend who wanted to dye her hair purple/​blue and Taylor was all about the challenge. Needless to say my friend adores her hair and she gets compliments on her hair all the time. I am so glad I found kux for style and that I was fortunate enough to have Taylor as a stylist. She is just wonderful so warm and sweet.

Marla is absolutely fantastic! I’ve been going to her for 3 years and followed her to this salon when she finished school. Although I live out of town (Port Orchard) it’s more than worth the drive. I am always satisfied with the outcome of my hair! Very cute, upbeat salon. Parking can be difficult though so I recommend a parking lot down the street! Love love love it here! Big thanks to Marla for making me feel beautiful!

They are amazing!

I have only been there once and I am getting my butt back in to get another haircut. My haircut that Megan gave me rocked! After not getting my haircut for 2 years due to my stylist moving out of town and really bad experience with other stylists that don’t know how to cut curly hair, Megan listened to me and I felt like she really connected with what I was trying to achieve in a haircut! She’s fantastic at cutting curly hair and believe me, that is so rare to find. Highly recommend her.

Wedding hair blues. I’ve been a client of one of the salon owners for years and have sent other clients to her, as well. When I last saw her, I told her I was getting married the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Her response was that my hair would have to be done the day before the wedding as the store is closed on Sunday and its a holiday weekend. I’ve never been married and accepted that this was ok until I spoke with my sister and some friends. They were all really surprised that she didn’t even check to see if one of the other stylists would do my hair on the day of the wedding –and I was prepared to pay well for the service.
I wanted to give the salon another chance so called back twice, leaving a voice message once and a message with the receptionist the second time and both times asking for a call me back –maybe they didn’t realize I was having a professional photographer, maybe they didn’t realize that I only needed my hair styled. But there was no response. Today I spoke with a friend who also goes to Luxe. She said the owner was aware I’d called and indicated that she’d called me back. This severe lack of customer service and lying about it blows me away. I called another salon that I’ve never been to and they had no problem accommodating my needs.

I’ve been going to Megan for 4 years now and she’s the best! She, Noemi, and Shannon are the fantastic team of owners at Luxe and are all so great. In fact, all the girls are great! They offer stellar customer service. They have a beautiful shop with lots of fun products to browse but they never push their products on their customers which I really appreciate.
Megan is amazing with color! I really appreciate how she gets to know her clients, so when I say I’m ready for something «crazy» she knows that my definition of crazy is going one shade darker than my natural color and adding very subtle highlights. She really listens to what her clients want and I’ve never been disappointed by a style or color she’s given me.
I love visiting Luxe, it’s always an amazing experience from beginning to end!

Got a great haircut from Elisa today during the Childhood Cancer Cut-​a-​Thon! The stylists there raised lots of money for childhood cancer research! Thanks for the great day!

Yes I am a bit of a Unilocal slacker. I use the app constantly but only write reviews when I feel passionate about service I have received. That being said I’m extremely disappointed with Luxe for Style. The management is rude, the stylists seem jaded, and their products drug store quality (and ridiculously overpriced). The only saving grace at Luxe was Devi Pack. She has become the only stylist I have let touch my hair since my first cut. Every time I leave an appointment with her I wonder to myself why she is not a stylist in Hollywood. Too bad the management is pushing her out. Oh well, I will follow her to whatever salon is lucky enough to snatch her up!

I’ve been seeing Amy for almost a year now and love what she does for my hair and mood! Shes great at listening to what I want and suggesting new things/​techniques she’s learned at industry events. Everyone at the salon is amazing! I highly recommend trying them out!

I went here in November (I know Im a Unilocal slacker) to use a Groupon I had purchased, $ 50 for $ 100 of services. To give you the setup– I am a natural brunette with super thick curly hair that I straighten virtually every day of my life, I would say it is also decently long. A couple months earlier I had been into the Madmen thing and wanted to get my hair as red as possible that would still look good with my brunette hair and slightly olive skintone. The stylist at the previous salon I went to in Tacoma did an all over demi color that made it look dark burgundy in the normal WA no sunlight, but when the light hits its this awesome red color. Love love. So I had noticed my roots had grown a few inches which isnt all that noticable except at the part and I’m slightly anal about these things. Hence I decided lets get the roots re-​touched and a trim/​re-​shape with my groupon. Went to Luxe, happened to be a special event day and they were also selling all this cute funky jewlery and serving mimosas, great start! The slaon is small, but cute, I love the chandeliers. I had a stylist named Shawna, who is new to the Olympia area. She is super friendly and gives the best shampoo I can remember having. Seriously. I would go just for the shampoo lol. I told her that I wanted to retouch the red color and wanted a trim to keep the length but even out my hair from some gross choppy layers that had been previously done. One of the owners consulted with her a bit on the best technique to phase out my choppy layers, which I appreciated. Shawna also said she loved the color in my hair and recommended highlighting a few pieces around my face so that the red would pop even more in some face framing sections. I loved the idea. The style and color came out great and I had a good time talking with my stylist. She described Luxe as a little more of a high end salon but without all the hoity-​toityness. I would say this is pretty accurate. I enjoyed the experience and recommend Shawna and the Salon in general. If you go, try to go on a trunk sale day or other special event, it was a fun twist and I walked out with a cute pair of earrings and who doesn’t love a mimosa!
* Update– So within a couple weeks I noticed the few highlighted areas with red had faded to more of an orange color which I obviously didn’t like. I called the salon and was able to make an appt with Shawna in a couple days. I went in and she re-​did all the highlighted pieces free of charge. My hair is a thick beast that sucks up all color and moisture, plus red is the hardest color to keep. It wasn’t her fault, I appreciate the customer service and have been happy with the new color ever since.
I plan to return.

I was really hoping this place would be great, but was totally disappointed. It’s a great location, and the salon itself looks sleek but quaint. I headed over after reading the last review saying that the stylists were experienced and knowledgeable.
I explained to the stylist exactly what it was that I did and did not want: No texture, zero zip, just a trim because I’m growing it out, and keep the top layer long. I spoke with her at length about how my hair is so naturally frizzy, and how many times stylists had made the problem worse with cuts.
She stopped my haircut midway through and said she’d finish it after blow drying and flat ironing it, which seemed unusual. Unfortunately, right at the last minute, she said she was going to add some «shape» around my face and she took her shears and cut a full FRINGE next to my face from the end of my bangs all the way down to the bottom. It happened too quickly for me to say anything, so I just paid and left in shock. It was a major style change I didn’t want, didn’t ask for, and one that I wouldn’t think anyone would make after I specifically told them I had coarse, frizzy and curly hair. Within minutes of being outside in the light rain, the hair around my face frizzed-​up instantly, looking feathered and dated, even with all of the product. I won’t be able to wear my hair naturally curly unless I want a huge ragged puff ball framing my face.
It will take years to grow out.
If anyone knows of a place with stylists who actually know how to cut curly, frizzy hair, please let me know.

Ok, on to the review. First, let me say that Luxe for Style is co-​owned by wonderful, cute women who enjoy paving the way for style in downtown Olympia, and love what they are doing.
Many larger salons are actually run by employees and the owners rarely show up, and have virtually retired from styling hair and moved on to managing the salon.
Place like Luxe for Style are built on owners who are ACTUALLY doing hair. They are current in their style concept. They are accessible. The experienced ones are the ones touching your hair. What a concept!
I hope Luxe for Style stays around, and continues to grow as Olympia grows. They’ll always stay focused on the custom level of service they currently provide.
