Lunch at 8200 feet after a three hour hike and 2000 feet elevation difference. Our lunch was very good. Cesar Salad with chicken breast(very nicely presented) and a Garden Burger with fries. The service was very good and flexible when we wanted to change the table. The prices were very reasonable considering what it takes to get all the food way up there. I have been to other similar places and I found the prices very reasonable in comparison, of course they are higher than down in the valley or low lands.

The food here was ok, but as most of the other reviewers have mentioned, the prices are a bit high(though that’s to be expected from a resort). The main reasons I’m giving this place a 2-star review is that the service was noticeably slow with some mistakes here and there, and a mandatory 20% gratuity for our party of only 4.

This is not the most stylish restaurant in Squaw, and for what it is meant to be and what they charge it really needs a makeover. Don’t get me wrong the views are beautiful and worth the visit but the set up is cafeteria/pedestrian. Service is friendly but very spotty. On both the starters and entrees; we waited too long for everyone to get served at which point the food was cold. As to the food — the fish was way overcooked came with some brown sauce that was revolting; all those that ate the short ribs got sick and 2 days later were still hurting, the meat was unrecognizable; the vegetarian dish fared no better and had the same overcooked lack of care appearance on the plate. Can’t imagine ever coming back here.

I agree with most of the other reviewers. The food was so-so, but definitely worked for high-calorie day-at-the-slopes fare. A friend and I ordered tea, and we each got one mug of hot water… no refills, no teapot with hot water. We ordered fries for the table, and had to ask for them three times, terribly inconveniencing our waiter by the looks of it. Apparently it’s restaurant policy to add a 20% gratuity to every ticket. We had only four people, and were a little taken aback by this. I’m sure most people just shake their heads and pay it anyway, but we asked that it be removed. If we thought our waiter was rude before that, but we had no idea. WOW.

The food is great. However, I gave the place only 3 stars, let me explain. We ate there on moonlight snowshoe/dinner package. Dinner was great, dessert even better. We ordered wine, which wasnt included in our package, no big deal, we knew it would be extra. We finish our meal, and the check comes. Our food was $ 80, which was covered in the package, and the wine was an additional $ 12. As the waiter sets the check down he says«we ask that you tip on the entire bill and not just the wine you ordered». UMEXCUSEME??? Although we expected to leave a nice tip, I thought it was downright RUDE for the waiter to say how he expected to be tipped! WOW! We left $ 20 and tried to remember how good the food was and not how rude the waiter was.

Food is very average but priced like it’s better. I’d suggest that you either bring a picnic lunch and go for a hike or eat at the Fireside Pizza or Coyotes back down in the Village.

Alexander’s Restaurant is located at Squaw Valley’s High Camp complex, 2000 feet above the resort’s base. We took advantage of a $ 41-per-person«Sunset» special that includes a round-trip cable-car(tram) ride and a three-course dinner.(High Camp also has swimming facilities and a roller rink.) It was midweek in the middle of August and the resort was empty except for a few hikers. We had the cable car to ourselves on the way up. The High Camp facilities are built to accommodate snowy, boot-wearing skiers and boarders so Alexander’s isn’t a fancy restaurant. It has cafeteria-style furniture and all-weather carpeting. We split an $ 8 girlie drink to start which came in a regular soda glass and looked like Gatorade and wasn’t anything special. The soup(tomato with pasta and vegetables) and salad were both pretty good. We both ordered the scampi-on-pasta entrees. The scampi tasted delicious but the pasta dish it was on was bland. We had strawberry shortcake and sherbet for dessert, both average. What I’ll remember most from the experience was the exciting cable-car ride, the sun setting over Emigrant behind motionless chairlifts, and the giant Olympic rings with Lake Tahoe in the background(Squaw Valley hosted the winter Olympics in 1960). The lack of crowds was nice, too. But the dinner and service was just so-so.
