Generations of regulars and countless stories have created a kind of living history at Barry O’s. Far from an exclusive club, Barry O’s is the kind of pub where you’re welcome the minute you walk in. It’s a straightforward, old-school joint where you go to just hang out. Like a cross-section of the eclectic Old Market neighborhood itself, the typical Barry O’s crowd is a mash-up of hip twenty and thirty-somethings, fifty-something empty nesters, white collar professionals, blue collar service workers, rugby players, sports fans and assorted characters. It’s the kind of place you go to drink a proper pint of Guinness, throw some darts, join a rambling conversation mid-stream, and let the night unfold.
An Old Market trailblazer, Barry O’Halloran and his wife Judy bought the bar in 1985. But, the building goes back almost another century. As the Hotel Howard in the 1880s, the hotel bar where Barry O’s now sits is the oldest still standing in the Old Market.
