My husband and I found a pre-​owned Exterra on Craigs list– advertised by owner. We agreed to meet the owner at his home to look at and test drive the vehicle. We did so and everything seemed in good order. The owner/​salesman told us that another couple had been looking at the vehicle but had not commited so we chose to move forward with the purchase. Things started to feel strange when we were asked to follow the owner to his car lot to complete the transaction. I thought it was for sale by owner. We however decided to move forward. We completed the transaction at his offices on a Sunday. We drove the vehicle for ½ a day on Monday when it started overheating. I called to owner immediately to express that this was not acceptable. As a salesman he had told us that his family had just one day before driven tha car to Lincoln and back with no problems. When I requested that he take his vehicle back as we had not owned it for a full day, he refused to discuss this as an option. I took Yeck’s automotive to have them take a look at the vehicle. They confirmed my worst suspitions. The vehicle would needs THOUSANDS of dollars worth of work. At the minimum there was ablown head gasket. I relaye dthis to the salesperson and he requested that I allow his mechanic to look at the vehicle as well. They would tow the vehicle and look at what woudl be required to repair the vehicle. Hewould then discuss how we would split the cost of the repair! His mechanic kept the vihicle for 4 days and then returned it to me stating that there was not a blown head gasket. They had put a «lifter» in the engine, driven the vehicle and all was well. I was thrilled that all was resolved. I drove the vehicle for 1 day and it overheated again. When the dealership called to inquire as to wether or not we had recieved the title to the car, they asked how well it was running. I was honest and told them that it drove fine for 1 day after their mechanic looked at it. The receptionist assured me that the salesperson that I was working with would want to know this and tha he would call me. This was over 2 months ago. The car has been sitting in my garage with my husband taking the engine apart completely only to find that yes there is a blown head gasket.

Don’t trust them! They listed a car on Craigslist, we even test drove it, we loved it and wanted to buy it. We shook his hand in a good faith promise that we would buy it and and he would sell it to us, but it was the weekend and had to wait until Monday to get the car loan. When we called him on Sunday to let him know we couldn;‘t get the loan until Monday, he said his wife wanted to keep the car and now he wouldn’t sell it to us. Wow what a jerk! Then he said we could come down and look at other cars, but no way, what if he backed out on the next one we liked? I would avoid them, they are not trustworthy.
