Elite Event: Four Course Meal & Beer Pairing @ Black Oak Grill

Awesome food and a great atmosphere! Catch a game or play on game on the giant simulator screens that also act as TVs! Based on the pricing it seems really affordable for a group of 4 to play 18 holes and nom down some awesome smoked wings in the coming winter months.

I have never heard of this restaurant before until I attended the Unilocal Elite event. I gotta say this place is pretty fancy, the decorations are really nice and modern and it just looks like a place to have a nice dinner. The staff were really delightful and really attentive to us!
As for food, we got to try an array of beers as well dishes that included beer batter and such. I got to try the beer batter catfish which was pretty good and complimented the beers we were drinking, although I kinda wish they had given us a dipping sauce to go with the catfish.
I really really liked the cheesecake they had it was a chocolate beer cheesecake. It was a mouthful of heaven!
My overall experience at Black Oak Grill was really great. Everyone was really nice and it’s a great place to go for a nice dinner!

What more is there to say about this wonderful event? Will is the consummate host and provides us with the most unique experiences. The managements of Black Oak Grill was eager to please and attentive. The staff was glorious. I am really blown away by the staff there. They always had a smile and were on hand if you needed them but were hovering. The folks from Nebraska Brewing Company were terrific as well. A big thank you to everyone who helped to put this event together!
I could go on and on about the food as others have done but I will save you all my long windednes and simply nod in head in agreement with those who have already posted.

I had an absolute blast! I got to Midtown a bit early and had a great beer beforehand. I probably should not have. I had no idea what was in store for me. Some dude was trash talking BOG and I had to put him in his place because he was not a Unilocaler.
If you don’t Unilocal you are missing out
As anyone knows, I love good beer. Nebraska Brewing Company recently got the nod as Nebraska’s best brewery. For good reason, too. the quality of flavors that each of their beers hold is so consistent and just damn good. Each style is comprised of exactly what I expect in terms of hop and malt balance. I happen to like the hoppier styles and have been on a sour kick for quite some time. I know when I am not sure what to order that I can ask for Cardinal Pale ale and it hits just right. Certainly NE’s most well rounded craft ale.
Let’s move on to the reason for being here. Food and camaraderie. The whole reason I became Elite was so that I could attend events like this.
The first course started with an EOS Hefeweizen (we like our wheat beers here) and I spilled it immediately on the edge of the table. Mike (the Manager) came over quickly and I had a new drink in seconds. No shame there. Hints of banana and clove, coriander and orange. It’s a good beer albeit a slight tad too sweet for me. It went well with the sweet honey dressing (also had beer in ti to thin it down) and the apple shreds. The Bleu crumbles provided a nice sharpness that worked well.
Second course was another pint of beer. This time it was the Summertime RyePA. Crisp hops and mild malt. This was the first time I had had it as I tend to stray from Rye ales. Put in front of the best onion rings I have had, it went well. Of course it was also in the batter. The onions were thickly sliced and the breading was akin to KFC. Very well seasoned. I will return just to have these O rings. Definitely need to go on the menu.
Thirdly it was time for entrees. While still having a pint and a half in front of me I was presented a glass of the beloved Cardinal Pale ale. Golden hues of malt and a balanced hop forward taste. Refreshing and perfect for anytime. Everyone else was getting catfish or prime rib and Mike made sure to make me a one off Eggplant Parm. Resting on a bed of mostaciolli, I had 4 huge slices smothered in a semi spicy sauce and mozzarella. Wow! Simply amazing flavor and enormous portion. The spice could have been kicked up with pomodoro, but that is just my palate. I think I was fiending for the goat cheese app from last time. I had enough food that I had to take it home even after sharing with anyone who wanted to try it. I felt like I was that guy in that one book who fed a bunch of people with a few fish.
The final course was set off by a pint of the Brunette. A sweet brown ale that is maltier than I regularly drink. It is better than Newcastle, but right along those lines. It was a perfect match for the cheesecake as it was crusted with chocolate and pretzel. Sweet, salty (slighlty) and a perfect way to finish the dinner.
When you give a group of Unilocalers great food and great beer we tend to be very honest about the time we had. All I saw was smiles. All I heard were compliments. Thank you Black Oak Grill and NBC for allowing us to come in and have such a great time. The staff and service was on point. I will be in later to give up some cash as I didn’t realize that I didn’t have a wad to throw in the tip jar.
Unilocal Omaha is rocking this year. I am fortunate for the friends that I get to go eat with and I thank you all for a great evening. Will S is continually making this such a worthy adventure.

Just when we thought the event from
The previous week couldn’t be topped. boy was I wrong!
This event was perfect, from the food all the way to the service! I thought this event was on a level of its own, it was much more personable and intimate so to speak. Nebraska Brewing Company and Black Oak Grill did an awesome job! First time trying NBC and they have gotten a customer for life.
I will say this was our 2^nd time to this establishment and the saving grace. My fiancé and I had tried this restaurant about a year ago and was far from impressed. This visit was a total 180 and like mentioned; the saving grace. The food was beyond spectacular and the service; especially Windi, she was the definition of the ideal server and representative of an establishment. I would say the highlight of the food was the Brunette beer by NBC and the Beer battered catfish and beer cheesecake were the takeaways!
If you have not tried this place, you should put it in your to do list! Will definitely be back in the future!

Having been here about a year ago and being less than impressed, I had my reservations about coming back. However, I honestly couldn’t have given this event less that five stars; it was hashtag amazing! I was a little skeptical of having four different beers throughout one meal but Black Oak and Nebraska Brewing sure pulled it off!
The first course with the salad and eos beer was the perfect light start. The second course with the onion rings and the Summer Time Rye honestly wasn’t what I was expecting, but it was still good. The beer was hoppier than I tend to like, however it balanced well with the strong flavor of the onions. Also, the batter on the onion rings was superb! The onions didn’t come out when you took the first bite, and they stayed intact for the rest of it too. For the third course I opted for the prime rib dip with au jus and the Cardinal Pale Ale. The beer was really good and paired well with the saltiness of the au jus. The prime rib was delicious, but it definitely could have been rarer.
For the final course we had the chocolate beer cheesecake with a pretzel crust with the Brunette Brown Ale. Let me just say this was by far my favorite course! You cannot go wrong with chocolate and some dark beer! Surprisingly with this being a dark beer I had not had it before. I was a little worried with it being an ale, however, it definitely tasted more along the lines of a porter or stout minus the thickness (which was a pleasant surprise!) I will definitely be looking for this beer at a local grocery store.
Overall, this event was fantastic and my favorite I’ve been to thus far. Huge shout out and thank you to Will, Black Oak Grill, and Nebraska Brewing Company! (Also a huge shout out to one of the servers, Windi, for being completely amazing!!)

FOOD COMA!
That is what I am in right now. This event was wonderful, and this coming from someone who dislike beer.
We started the night with good company, an EOS Hefewiezen beer, and a delicious salad topped with a dressing of honey mustard mixed with the same beer. Other than me not being a big fan of blue cheese, I loved it. They should put the dressing on the menu permanently because it was just that good. This beer in terms of straight drinking it, was probably my favorite, very light and not as «beer tasting» as the rest.
After the salad we got some giant onion rings and a Summertime Rye beer. If I had one complaint about dinner it would be the onion rings. They hit my stomach like a brick and were very greasy. They tasted good don’t get me wrong, just really heavy in the stomach. I really disliked the beer for this one, it tasted like very sour grapefruit and only got worse the more you drank.
For the main course I chose the prime rib salad thing with a jus dipping sauce. It was pretty darn good. The meat was tender and not rubbery, great amount of flavor. It was a little greasy, but that’s to be expected. It was served with a Jus sauce containing Cardinal Pale Ale
and we received the same beer on the side. I also hated this beer, VERY strong tasting of beer. (remember folks I don’t like beer)
For dessert, I hath died and gone to heaven. They gave us a beer chocolate cheesecake and it was darn good. It was served with Russian imperial stout and on it’s on the beer was gross, but mixed WITH the cheesecake, it was pretty yummy. So you have witnessed a miracle folks, I said a beer wasn’t half bad.
The fellow Unilocalers were a blast to hang out with and I made a new friend, so plus to that! I will definitely return to try the normal menu at black oak.
Oh and management remember… if you don’t put that cheesecake on your menu, it’s a grand injustice to humanity I am telling you!
