Business Owner

McCarthy’s Heating & Air Conditioning was started back in 1970 when I was asked to put a used part on a system, and charge the customer for a new part. That was not the type of business I wanted to work for, so I quit on the spot! When I got home, I realized what I did; quit my job that supported my wife and newborn son. My mother-​in-​law looked at me and said, «You’re a smart man John, start your own business!»

McCarthy’s Heating & Air Conditioning opened shortly after that with just me and one truck. In 1973, my wife Mary Kay entered the business full time, and it has been a family business ever since. We are both still involved in the day-​to-​day operations 44 years later.

Over the years, the company has grown, and on March 12, 2003, the first McCarthy’s One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning franchise was started.
