Walmart. Hmm. Where do I stand with them? I come here really just for one thing. That would be PBR. Sure, I can get it all over, but Walmart has a case for $ 13.99. That equates to $ 14.95 with tax. That is a hellacious good deal. for $ 10.67 I can get half that amount so when I am near here I stop in and grab my case. Then I wait. Wait some more. After and exasperating long delay I finally get a clerk to tell the self checkout lane I am old enough to buy beer. That is just one of the things wrong with this setup. There is almost never a cashier at a register, forcing me into the self service line. When I do get the person to verify my age it seems like I was bothering them. Really weak customer service. Last time she didn’t say a word to me. That was extremely rude. Moving forward, I will not give one iota of a shit about the day they are having. When there is somebody at the register, they are dealing with someone who wants to price match a month old ad in the paper. The layout here is similar to the other Neighborhood Markets that have popped up. That is that it looks barren and sterile. Cold and unwelcoming. I think No Frills has more charm

So, my hipster consciousness tells me I am not supposed admit to to being here(haha), but I went in because it was new, and I was curious. There was some annoying old guy outside the front trying to get you to subscribe to newspapers the day I was there, but otherwise, not too many weirdos here. At the moment, it’s shiny and new because it opened like a month ago. The floors are clean and the shelves weren’t too disorganized. It’s a smaller version of a Wal-Mart, with a more scaled down version of things. I went in and bought a few staples – brown rice and quinoa(redeeming my hipster status!), cereal, some popcorn chicken at the deli), and some meat and veggies. All of the prices were pretty good. Things were going okay until I got to the self-checkout lane. For some reason, the ice cream I bought just would not properly scan and the woman had to come over twice to fix it.(Sorry to the dudes behind me.) There didn’t seem to be a lot of full service lanes opened, so that was an issue. It’s an okay place for a few quick things; I did notice that not all of the food brands I liked were there(and, maybe that’s more of a Wal-Mart versus Hy-Vee thing rather than the Neighborhood market itself), but I could see how this could be a welcomed addition to some of the folks in the area. The No Name grocery down the street from here is dirty, and old, so this was a nice change of pace.

It’s new so of course it’s cleaner than most other similar stores… but a pleasant surprise was that the few employees I came in contact with turned out to be friendly… Granted, they just opened so the employees haven’t had a chance to fully realize what working for Walmart is like… I found everything I needed and of course the prices were better than most other stores… I’ll come back since it’s close and it means not having to go to one of those infernal Walmart Supercenters…

This Walmart Neighborhood Market opened today(August 20, 2014) and it looks and feels new. But a little different than the others I have visited in the Omaha area, this one has probably the smallest footprint of them all, but is laid out a lot better. The bakery section is about average, but I felt their meat market was lacking. Also, important to me, they had a decent beer section, but not a make your own six-pack section that other markets do have. pricing of course is about the same as the other stores. Easy access off Saddlecreek, but getting back on Dodge is a little tricky.
