The Gingerbread House Restaurant

A favorite of my whole family! We love getting breakfast at the Gingerbread House. The French toast in particular is outstanding. Plus, their bacon and hash browns are crispy and delicious. Always a friendly waitress! The dining atmosphere is open, pretty, and full of light. I love the gigantic windows looking out on the woods in the back. Highly recommended.

Great breakfast atmosphere. Slow service but relaxing and scenic atmosphere. Also, the place to go in the evening for take out ice cream. Homemade gingerbread and brownies. Generous servings!

Not sure what the buzz is with this place. It’s not at all imaginative or exciting. Where are all the gingerbread men? I was quite disappointed that it didnt have any German dishes at all. A reuben, but come on, that’s it? The menu was not exciting, just like any other American menu. Some dishes that went by to other tables looked good. I had a tomato bisque, just ok, more than likely doctored up. Hubby had a club sandwich that was tasty but a regular old sandwich. Staff was relatively friendly, place quite busy for the holiday weekend. Bathrooms were clean. This place very open with group seating in atrium.

Stopped in while snowmobiling for a drink and some dessert. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and yummy gingerbread.

A recommended stop for a quality breakfast. Great service for Rangeley is you know what I mean. Breakfast portions are large fresh and fairly priced, its a nice quiet place for breakfast. Dinner on the other hand is a different story. Prices are extremely expensive and portions are average at best. I would pass on lunch or dinner but show for breakfast.

Went in for breakfast this morning with my parents, brother and his family, and my boyfriend. Homemade hash was awesome, the home fries were hearty and unique, and coffee was fresh. Ambiance is exemplary! Being able to watch the deer was amazing. The lazy Susans are great to have on the table with large groups like ours. The waitress was really nice, but my mother never received her bacon. Also, it’s a pet peeve of mine when the staff smells like cigarettes. All in all, this is a great restaurant and we will be back!

Giant portions for breakfast. My pancake was the size of my plate! Our waitress, «beauty» was sassy, sarcastic and left us smiling. Wish we had enough time on our vacation to go back for lunch and dinner!

We had a gut-​busting, tasty breakfast here recently. Each pancake was the size of a large dinner plate and is probably best ordered as a side to share between two or three people between bites of egg or sausage. Other reviewers have mentioned how pricey it is – I thought it offered reasonable value given how huge the servings are., The $ 2 up-​charge for real maple syrup is something we’ve seen in cheaper area diners but were surprised to see here. No complaints about the service, but it was early on a quiet mid-​week morning and we were practically the only ones there.

My husband and I were vacationing at Lake Cupsuptic for our anniversary and were told that The Gingerbread House was a good place to eat. We made reservations for our anniversary.
The staff was super friendly. I read other reviews that were from years past, maybe they have better staff now. We had an exceptional experience and meal. We started with a bottle of cabernet sauvignon that was reasonably priced.
Our waitress was very helpful and made suggestions.
We ordered the crab cakes to split as an appetizer. They were almost ALL lump crab hardly any filler. They were some of the best crab cakes I have ever had.
My husband asked for a recommendation from the waitress and she suggested the lamb chops. They were juicy and delicious! The portions were well worth the money!
I had the Lobster Mac n cheese. It was super! The lobster was piled on top, not baked into the mac n cheese. This made for very juicy lobster meat. All of the lobster meat was claws.
For dessert, we had warm gingerbread with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious!

We love this place for breakfast. We come to Rangeley every year and this is a mandatory meal. Holly says the chocolate chip pancakes are good and big. No one needs more than one. She also says the home fries are too much like potatoes and not enough like hash browns. Dave thought they were delicious. I am a huge fan of the veggie sausage. Don’t miss this place!

This is the first time I’ve eaten here in probably 15 or more years. I remember it being a down homie rustic style breakfast joint. A lot had changed since then. It is now more of a fine dinning establishment. My breakfast here was wonderful, but wholly expensive. It was $ 17 including tip for 4 slices of French Toast (albeit the sourdough baguette it was made from was baked in house) and an order of some first class home fries. I had the French Toast with pure Maine maple syrup which they charged an extra $ 2 for. I’m not gonna lie, it was f’ing amazing. I didn’t care much for the service however. I found the waitress to be grumpy and put off by my presence. When paying near $ 20 for a breakfast this is simply unacceptable. A 5 star meal with 2 star service. I still may have given then 4 stars if the price wasn’t so out of line. You’re talking $ 60 for 3 people to eat breakfast. Nahhh

We camp in the Rangeley area several times each summer and decided to try the Gingerbread House after our usual breakfast place went out of business. What a find!
The food is just incredible! I ordered pancakes, and have never had better pancakes anywhere else in my entire life. They are massive and so, so flavorful. I’m not sure what they do to them to make them so good. The garden eggs Benedict my partner got was also amazing. These people know how to please!
We had read on the Dog-​Friendly Maine website that the Gingerbread House is dog-​friendly and, indeed, despite the fact that we arrived during the breakfast rush, when the front porch was not open for dining, the manager opened it for us so we didn’t have to leave our dog, Dewey, in the car. She even made sure to check on us, and offer a few pats to our canine companion. He enjoyed his side order of ham just as much as we enjoyed our food. Our server was also very sweet and attentive.
Though we didn’t eat inside, I did step into the dining room when we first arrived, and it was very clean, cozy, and welcoming.
In all, the Gingerbread House is a fabulous place, and I hope to spend much more time there in years to come.

Best meals in the area. Chef Dean is a treasure. Food is outstanding. wines fairly priced. Great ice cream bar.

Great spot. Went there every morning during my stay in Rangeley. Wonderfully sweet owner made it feel like eating in someone’s home. Food was even better. Great views including plenty of deer that come right to the big glass doors to feed. Its also right across from trails. Perfect!!!

The Gingerbread House has quite a few things going for it. It is in a scenic location, and tries hard to please. The servers are well trained, attentive, and have the right touch. There is a nice wine list, and a good selection by the glass. But a few missteps show that despite the care given to appearances, some things need a lot of work. The menu lists a derivative of Beef Wellington, served on a pastry, described as a ‘filet of beef.’ But, I’m sorry, when you say ‘Beef Wellington’ and ‘filet of beef’ you should mean beef tenderloin — there just no way around this. Instead the beef is a circular carved piece of sirloin, not as flavorful and far from as tender as tenderloin. Deceptive, I would say. And blueberry pie, when blueberries are in season, should not have blueberries from a can. No way. A chicken dish, which was served with fresh blueberries and other fruit, was well done. The jasmine rice a nice touch. On another dish, the mashed potatoes were just not good … were they real? Given the remote area, finding an almost-​nice restaurant should be enough. And Gingerbread House has been here a long time, which means they are doing at least a few things right. But a bit more care would take this restaurant to another level.

Alright, Gingerbread House is the real deal. It had by far the best food of any restaurant I went to in Maine. It’s tucked away near Rangeley Lakes in a feel-​good area of trees, trails, and swimming holes. The restaurant itself looks like a cute little gingerbread house. They have 2 amazing things on the menu that you must try. #1 is the blueberry chipotle ribs. They are definitely the best ribs I’ve ever had in my life. If you are skeptical about the idea of blueberry on chipotle ribs, abandon your skepticism and just give it a try because we were ALL skeptical and were instantly transformed into believers right after the first bite. Atop the ribs comes a johnny cake which transcends the arena of adjectives to be able to describe the deliciousness. I’m not even completely sure what it is, but it seems to be fried potato cake with corn inside. It was unbelievable. The other thing that I had that blew me away was the steak and cheese sandwich. With this, you’re not getting typical beef you would get with a philly cheese steak, you are getting shaved PRIME RIB that is perfectly marinated and seasoned with delicious melted yellow cheese on a sub roll. It was also by far the best steak and cheese sandwich I’ve ever had. I was blown away. Everybody was blown away from the food and we were a HUGE party. We loved the little house feeling on the inside and thought the servers were excellent. You definitely have to try those two items if you’re up in Rangeley Lakes.

The GB House serves breakfast, lunch and a formal dinner. What can be better than high quality food, a rotating menu with evening specials and excellent service? This is a true gem of the Rangeley Lakes region. Call ahead for a reservation and for details on the evening specials.

Attached to the restaurant is an ice cream bar with lots of desert choices. Fresh baked pies, gingerbread and cinnamon buns decorate the old fashion soda fountain bar. The ice cream is also delicious, but if you haven’t enough room after indulging in a nice dinner, you can always come back during business hours for one scoop or three!
