Specialties

We are a full service animal hospital who has a boarded small animal internal medicine specialist on staff and offer full service preventative health care for your pet. We offer full service dentistry, spay/​neuter/​declaw, soft tissue surgeries such as bladder, intestinal and other abdominal surgeries. In house digital radiography and labwork as well as hospitalization of sick pets and acupuncture for painful and arthritic animals. We also examine and treat a full range of exotic/​pocket pets such as guinea pigs, rabbits, rodents and ferrets. We will also treat some wildlife but call before bringing them into us. Allow us to specialize in taking the best care of an important member of your family.

History

Established in 2012.

We started construction in December of 2012 on a 1940’s brick warehouse to create Animal Care of Oradell. Dr. Hurst our founder and operating veterinarian graduated from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. He worked as a mixed animal practitioner in Xenia, Ohio serving a rural community until moving up to Detroit to start practicing emergency medicine in an urban setting. He moved to Bergen county in 2002 and practice emergency medicine at AERA in Fairfield, NJ for the next 5yrs before moving on to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital to continue his love of emergency medicine. While working as an emergency veterinarian Dr. Hurst would routinely work as a general practitioner in many different small animal hospitals around the area. This wide array of clinical experience along with his wife Dr. Suzanne May a small animal internal medicine specialist on staff allows them to practice a very high level of care. Animal Care of Oradell is the only place I’ll take my family’s 2 dogs. Everyone there is compassionate and professional — from the reception desk to the vet techs and most importantly, Dr. Hurst, who is probably the best (and kindest) veterinarian we’ve ever used. He has literally saved our Dusty when he was nearly poisoned. The office is never too busy for phone calls, and emails are answered quickly if you have a question at home. I just can’t praise Dr. Hurst and his staff enough! They’re wonderful.

We have been bringing Marley to Dr. Hurst and his staff since he was a little guy. Now at almost 2 years old he absolutely loves going to see Dr. Hurst! The care and compassion that Dr. Hurst and his staff show each individual animal is genuine and dedicated. It is not limited to dogs and cats either — in our trips there we have seen roosters, rabbits… you name it. Everyone at Animal Care of Oradell cares about EVERY animal and it truly shows! If you don’t have a vet currently I highly recommend calling Dr. Hurst. It is really well located in Bergen Co. (takes us about 15 mins or so from Fair Lawn), they do all they can to help keep costs as minimal as possible and they will genuinely care about you and your furry family. Thank you Dr. Hurst!

By far, Dr. Hurst is the best vet I’ve met. In addition, the staff is amazing. Everyone there treats my pets and me like we are family. I know my babies are in great hands every time we step foot in that gorgeous office. Caring, compassionate, and so very knowledgable. I highly recommend!

Animal Care of Oradell is the best. I really can’t think of one thing I wish was different. Dr. Hurst and his entire team give outstanding care to your pet. They all truly care. They make the entire visit as stress free as possible for your pet and for you. Appointments are easy to make and they make great use of technology for communicating with you. The exam tables lower to the floor and then lift automatically so that they don’t have to pick up my large dog. Much less stressful for dog. I believe that my dog enjoys going there, something that has never happened with other vets we have used. Might have something to do with the distraction treats they provide. Highly recommend

This vet’s office easily gets 5 stars. The doctor and staff are great to work with and very friendly. Lots of discussion and consultation around your pet’s needs with different option plans. Prices are very fair and in my experience the doctor worked with us to take pricing into account when thinking of treatment plans for our dog. Nice and clean office and check up rooms. It’s a half hour from where I live with many vets closer but I am not going anywhere else!

Dr. Hurst & the staff at Animal Care of Oradell are amazing. We first learned about them from our groomer, Dana, owner of the Barker Shop (located in River Edge). She spoke very highly of them, and recommended we look into visiting. Then, we saw people post on Facebook and local advertisements. We took our 2 year old Yorkie, Jameson, in January for his annual checkup. Like any first visit, we weren’t sure what to expect, or how our dog would react to new people and change. But, Jameson was very comfortable, thanks to the great care he received. We felt comfortable, too. The office is inviting, immaculate and state of the art. Everyone receives a tour of the entire facility, which, we’ve never had the pleasure of doing at other Vet offices. Prices are manageable, and we feel, when it comes to our «furry son» price isn’t in question. Dr. Hurst was very thorough and he took his time to explain everything to us. Appointments are booked with a decent amount of time in between the next appointment so you and your animal receive the doctor and staffs undivided attention. Animals are family and you want the best for them. Animal Care of Oradell, is the best. We’ve recently heard that they have been rehabilitating near-​death animals from the street and that is just something else to add the list of why they’re the best. They give amazing care to many, many animals and their family’s. We are happy that we switched Vets and we have referred several friends.

I learned of Animal Care of Oradell as part of my new business as a dog behavioral trainer. I was impressed with my current vet, however, Dr. Hurst and I share the same Ideologies and theories in regards to dogs.
Because of this my 3 dogs are being moved over to Dr. Hurst’s care. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and every one there truly really cares.
This is very important to me, not only are my dogs are my pets the are my «children» Dr. Hurst’s takes the time to explain in lay man’s terms what is going on with your dog’s health, completely and thoroughly. After the visit his office called me to check on my first 2 dogs. I cannot wait for my 3rd guy to met him.

Very very pleased with our first experience here with Dr Hurst and his staff. We brought our cat in for a couple of issues: weight control, a curious new behavior pattern and also an issue that turned out to be an ear infection. Our cat is very unhappy when he’s at the vet… as opposed to his usual mellow and superfriendly state. Dr Hurst’s assistant began by just opening the door of his carrier on the floor, leaving a treat and letting him come out on his own. Much gentler than dumping him out of the box onto the examining table, a common practice at other vets’ offices. Their treatment of him was always caring and gentle and observant of his reactions; a much more pleasant visit than he is used to. All during the visit, Dr Hurst explained all of his conditions and behaviors in a concise and thoroughly understandable way, sharing his knowledge so that we can actively participate in our cat’s healing. His love and care for animals is evident in everything he does. And the staff is very professional and fun too, they seem to enjoy what they’re doing. Prices are totally reasonable. It’s a nice-​looking office, easy to get to. Overall, much less traumatic to our kitty than the usual vet visit and the follow-​up by phone and email was also appreciated. We definitely recommend this office to any cat or dog owner.
