ABC Cake Decorating Shoppe and Bakery

I’m sad they’re closed now. I hope they re-​open sometime soon. I emailed them a picture of a Louis Vuitton purse cake and they matched that extremely well. The cost was only about $ 70, way better than anywhere else I had contacted. My friend loved her cake and it tasted great.

ABC Cakes is closing their store this saturday 6÷20÷15, so get your clearance supplies while you can! I’ve taken a couple of classes here, and they were really good. I wanted to take more, but they always canceled them due to low enrollment.
I’ve never ordered a cake as I bake my own stuff. To be honest I’d never order from here.
Luckily I live near Pila’s Pantry in Norco, so I’ll continue to get supplies there as the prices are better, classes are always available, AND… Pila’s customer service comes with a smile!
With that said. ABC’s customer service always left a bad taste in my mouth. Some of the ladies here seemed angry to be at work. While I will miss the convenience of getting supplies here, I won’t miss anything else about this business. Too bad I won’t be able to redeem my silly 2 stamp cards they gave out.

I absolutely hate coming here and only come here when I absolutely have to because it is located so close to my house (I usually go to Calico in BP). Their customer service is absolutely atrocious and their shelves are always empty. They aren’t helpful and don’t you dare ask a questions because the look they give you will melt your face off.

I saw the unfriendly girl that everyone mentioned here on Unilocal!As I walked in she mustered up the courage to say «hello» but very quietly. I honestly think that’s just her personality… she obviously isn’t very friendly and probably shouldn’t be in retail/​sales but whatever! She didn’t really bug me.
The store itself is a good size. They do carry a lot more baking stuff then Joann’s or Michael’s. You can definitely find things here that the other two don’t carry. The had a ton of random things. What really bothered me were the empty/​sparse walls/​displays. I was looking for baking spatulas and other decorating utensils but they didn’t have what I was looking for. I would come back if I needed sprinkles/​dust or containers for my baked goods. I live down the street from Michaels and can easily pull up a coupon so I will go there to find the stuff that they didn’t have at ABC or order online.
Just in case you are not from the area and can’t find what you’re looking for at ABC, Joann’s and Michael’s is also conveniently located on the same street.

I just noticed a «for sale“sign placed in the store window. This makes me sad. I’ve been coming here for my cake supplies for the last 5 years. If they close, where am I going to find my cake supplies? We need to keep these type of businesses in business.

I ordered a graduation cake from here and gave them 3 days notice as requested when including an edible picture. The time I was told the cake would be ready it was not. I waited in the store while the «finishing touches» were done. Once the cake was ready the lady who sold the cake to me quickly opened the lid and shut it only allowing me a brief look at the picture. I didn’t get a good look at the writing. She then taped the entire lid down! I thought it was a little unusual but due to the rainy weather I dismissed my premonition. Later once at the party I unveiled the cake and to my surprise they misspelled «congratulation» and most importantly the NAME on the graduate! The people there are lacking attention to detail which is shocking when you have a business that personalizes cakes. This was no over site. They were aware of the mistake
and should of owned it. Next time I’m going to Vons bakery.

Terrible customer service. They didn’t make an effort into my day any better. My brother called in the morning about an edible being printed of a logo. I had to drop of because he was at work so I did. I walk in one the first word I can already tell they were going to have an attitude. There’s no «Hi! Welcome to ABC cakes how can I help you?»…yeah. They don’t like their job so the energy they put out people will react to it. I just think a little more effort to see who worked in the morning to figure out the size would of been helpful. If they can’t do that I wouldn’t expect them to do my orders correctly. NOT RECOMMENED.

Bad bad bad customer service, somebody needs to keep Mary out of the register, she needs human resources skills. Very rude person. I noticed the store is for sale, I’ll be back with the new management because I’m a paying customer and I deserve respect not the attitude she gives. Besides the store is not the same we can find the same product at Michael

I had the absolute WORST service and experience at ABC cakes. Not only were they unwelcoming and rude, but they were unable to fulfill my order and were not apologetic even after their mistake was clearly pointed out to them. I will never again go to them for any of my baking needs, and I suggest that nobody else does either.

Lack of customer service, non-​helpful, non-​approachable. Unfortunately this cake supply store is the closest to me, but I am more willing to drive all the way to Calico, for great assistance and happy employees.

I am only giving 1 star because they have what I need and it won’t let me give 0 stars. I can’t even begin to say how much I hate bad customer service! I have never complained and you can see that all my reviews so far have been 5 stars because I love positivity and I love to give good reviews. But I am angry at ABC! I am new to the area and I come here because it’s convenient for me. 5 out of the 6 times I’ve been here I’ve walked out shaking my head in disappointment. Customer service should be a company’s #1 priority! And the 2 younger girls that work at the register are absolutely rude and always have an attitude! You’re supposed to greet customers when they walk through the door! Your register is literally in front of the door so you see every person that walks in. They lean on the counter are not helpful one bit! I can see them laugh and roll their eyes at customers and I will never walk in to this place again. I said it before and the only reason I came back was because I absolutely needed something. I would rather drive an hour in traffic to Glendora to go to A&J Cake and Candy Supplies in Glendora then to walk in this place ever again! I’m not a rude person and I’ve never been mean to anyone in my life but after what I’ve seen here more than once I’m pissed.

Horrible!!! Im looking for a quick cake that i need in a few hrs. I walked in and I greet the lady at the counter. How awkward is that? Shouldnt they be greeting me? Anywho. I say hi and she looks at me like im stealing something. Anywho she says «can i help you?» hmm nooo. I just walked out. Ill try another place that wants my buisness.

Terrible customer service! I needed an image to be printed and my mother recommended ABC, using my mother’s email I emailed them my image unaware I had it in the wrong format. When I asked my mother to follow up by calling and seeing if they had received it Mary answered with an attitude that it was In the wrong format and that she was wasting there time.

It’ll due in an EXTREME pinch and even then I personally wouldn’t go back. I had to get a cake board so I thought I’d check it out. I usually buy lots of things even when I don’t need them. Let me tell you, their selection was sparse and there wasn’t anything for me to want to buy. Despite their higher prices, the customer service definitely lacks. Although they were not rude directly to me, I heard several conversations between employees and customers that showed just how irritated and unfriendly the staff are. It’s a minute from my house and I’ll never be back. It’s a shame because I always need something.

Where to begin? Found this place in a Google search and looked around their website before actually setting foot in the store. According to the «Contact Us» page of the site, their M-​F hours are 10am — 7pm. I was viewing this from my tablet, so I didn’t get actually see the main/​landing page of the site.
My mom, sister and I walk in to look at cake supplies, as a friend has commissioned a cake (I am a pastry chef, by profession) for a party. It has been a long time since I have lived in the area, so looking for specific supplies outside of the Las Vegas area has been a slight challenge. At first glance, the store looks promising but on closer inspection, it is less so. Half of the bins are empty, many of the hooks on the end caps of the aisles are empty. I was able to find about ¹⁄₃ of the things I was hoping to get when one of the women working asked if we needed any help because they were already closed. It was a little after 6pm. So we took the few things that we had and headed to the register.
As I was being rung up, I mentioned that I thought that the store closed at 7pm. She started to complain (to a customer!) that they have pleaded with Google and Unilocal to update their hours but they haven’t updated. Still trying to be friendly, I mentioned that I was pretty sure that it was their own website that showed the times, and that they might want to check with their webmaster, or whoever updates the site, to take a look. The lady, who I later learned is the owner Mary, very snarkily said that she is the one that updates the site and it has been correct for the past 2 months. She then pulls up the home/​landing page on the computer and essentially said, «See? It says we close at 6.» Not to be outdone, when I know what I read, I pull out my tablet and showed her what I was looking at. She looks at it, very skeptical, accusing me of being on a page that was not theirs (umm, the domain is the same…), a page that shares the EXACT SAME HEADERS AND PICTURES. Sure enough, it said 7pm.
If I wasn’t pressed for time to get some of the items I purchased, I would have left empty-​handed. I would never expect a retail employee to argue with a paying customer, let alone an owner! It’s a shame because I saw that they are looking for people to teach classes, and I considered inquiring (I trained at one of best bakeries in the country). I will not be returning, and will tell everyone I know, especially those in the business, to never take their business here. Customer service goes a long way. These folks do not have it.

I can honestly say that I like to come here even if it’s just to get ideas. I been coming for about 3 years. And 95% of the times they have the stuff that I’m looking for.
Some of the early reviews say that the customer service is real bad. But from my experience I can say that if it’s not the best it’s also not bad… not bad at all. Maybe I get better service that the ladies that go there just cause I’m a guy. JK. But in a serious note, I think the service it’s just fine. On my way in a get the usual «welcome to ABC cakes» and the «can I help you find anything?». And on my way out «thank you for coming in, we’ll see you again».
My next step it’s to take on of the classes that the offer. I look forward to that.
** If you are looking for something and Michael’s doesn’t have it, stop waisting your time driving around and head over to ABC cakes. Take my word for it**

I’d read all the negative reviews on ABC prior to visiting. I hate to say it, but the negative reviews are all spot on.
Upon walking into the establishment, there is a counter where the cashier sits. And I do mean ‘sit’. The girl was chatting away on her cell phone and did not acknowledge my presence. The prices are high, the staff is either rude or doesn’t give a crap that one is the customer.
I bake and make chocolate professionally so I’m looking for tools that are something other than Wilton. Walking through this place is like walking through a shrine to the Wilton Method. I’m not bashing the Wilton Method, I’m just saying that there is not much else there other than Wilton.
I’ve never ordered (nor will I ever) any baked goods from this shop. After looking at their display case, I never will. Their display case of cakes is nasty. They indicate that they bake on premises but if one bakes in house, one should be able to smell the wonderful aroma of baking or baked cakes. Nope. It doesn’t even smell like sugar or a bakery.
Don’t shop here unless you enjoy being ignored or treated rudely.

DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING THAT IS FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION HERE !
Unless its the only place nearby and you couldn’t give a rats tail about the occasion as this place does customer service I urge you to avoid ABC Cakes.
This is my second time ordering a cake; my first I was set back by the rudeness of the owner and lack of customer service from start to end but couldn’t make a single complaint on my actual cake (good job decorators).
However, my second visit I was ordering a 2-​tier cake for my friends wedding that was on a Tuesday and the owner presented me with a 2tier cake and a 2tier wedding cake, when I asked what the difference was she had trouble giving me an explanation if anything. She actually said a wedding cake has more elaborate decorations. I continued to explain I didn’t want anything elaborate, I wanted simple solid buttercream on the top and rosettes on the bottom so I simply ordered a 2tier cake.
When I picked up the cake it was exactly what I had ordered, since I drive a coupe I carefully stuffed my car seat and laid a flat, leveled plastic surface and placed the cake there. I knew to do this from previous experiences at other bakeries where they are much kinder and actually put the cake in your vehicle for you or at least hold the door open while you walk out. I was very cautious the entire drive to my friends house and upon arrival the rosettes began to melt and lean toward the cardboard box. We then placed the cake on the kitchen counter and opened up the box, the entire front side of the cake no longer had the rosettes and the top layer was so dense it deformed the bottom layer and began to slide very slowly. Not knowing what problem to handle first we placed a fork under the «wooden plate» and tried to fix the rosettes.
I called ABC and the girls were surprisingly empathetic. I really had no option but to go back, I tried explaining that the cake was unfixable and they could not grasp their heads around the gravity of the situation. On my drive back to ABC the top layer was caving into the bottom and the jelly filling was melting causing the entire thing to fall apart. I had to stop at walmart and buy a cardboard box to put the cake in otherwise it would have smeared all over my car. I was too flustered to take any pictures at this point which I very much regret now!
Once at ABC the girls took the cake to the back they made me feel like it was not my fault, the jelly filling melted, the weather etc (which I am very thankful for, thank you to those 2 girls at the front I only remember Erin’s name). Within 2 hours they ended up putting together a smaller cake, different design, different flavors and giving me cupcakes to account for the size difference. Aside from that, I had no time to go home and change, fix my hair, make-​up or anything really and I was late to a dear friends wedding.
Before I left ABC with my new cake, one of the managers told me I could get a 50% refund for the trouble and inconvenience. To my dismay, instead of an apologetic approach when I called for the refund I was accused of destroying the cake myself. The owner Mary was still not at the store so I had to wait over the weekend and call on Monday. I began my conversation with telling her I wanted to explain what my experience was from start to end and she refused to listen telling me that she already knew from what her employees told her. I was disgusted with her approach, if I handled a customer complaint with that attitude I would be unemployed! How are they even in business still ?!? I tried explaining myself a second and third time but instead I was interrupted by her every time and was told it was going to come down to a he said or she said affair which is mind baffling. She claimed that the pictures I showed her assistant showed the cake in a fixable stated, while I understand that 1 picture showed where the rosettes were fixable how can they say my cake was fixable from the 2^nd picture where the cake was clearly uneven! Even if what they are saying is true that I mishandled the cake and the wooden board split, the cake would still appear to be even and it didn’t. Really, the last thing I needed to hear was that I purposely destroyed the cake so I could be refunded. Just to be clear, showing up to my friends wedding in jeans and buttercream stained top with frizzy unstyled hair is now how I pictured my day to be. It sure as hell was not worth the my «50% refund.»
At this point, I care less about the money and more about sharing this experience with potential customers. Given that I work in the wedding industry you can bet I will let every bride, bridal consultant, venue or any vendor I come in contact with NOT TO COME TO ABC CAKES. I mentioned to the girls I was dreading dealing with Mary because she is rude and they all giggled and told me they understand because they have to deal with her.
All in all AVOID AVOID AVOID! Sorry this is so long, but really AVOID !!

I’ve come here for years, tolerating the high prices and not-​so-​helpful service because it was the only place like that in the area. Usually I’d rather shop online for those items (pretty much anything they have there is 50% cheaper or more on Amazon or other websites), but when I’m running low on something last minute, I have to go here.
But the rude treatment I’ve gotten the last few times, plus the fact that they refuse to take returns on items still in their packages (non perishable, and I was going to purchase a ton of other things, which were valued at way more than my return), makes me question why I put up with it for so long.
I’ve taken classes here (by a very rude older woman who didn’t seem to want to teach us anything), spent a ton of money, and have always been pleasant to deal with.. so I thought I deserved a little bit of manners in return. I’ll be driving all the way to classic cake in garden grove now, when I don’t have time to order my supplies online. I’m really upset.

I’ve ordered from ABC Cakes on three different occasions… The worst was for my sons birthday… The cupcakes were dry and the icing was almost hard like they had been sitting for awhile… When I say awhile I mean a few days…
PLUS the employees there are unbelievably rude… Would it kill them to be somewhat kind??? Maybe smile once in awhile?
Needless to say I will NEVER go back to ABC cakes.
