Well, we arrived from out of town and hoped for a restaurant to enjoy some atmosphere and great food. Peggy’s on the Bayou sounded like the kind of mom & pop place to get both. We left our hotel and drove into the darkness as directed by Unilocal.Reviews were mixed, but we gave POTB a go. The restaurant looks like a dated truck stop that needs demolishing, ridiculously decorated with every possible sign displaying more ridiculous quotes –not exactly the atmosphere we hoped for. Only after we arrived at the restaurant did we learn that it was BYOB — not cool. We began with taste of the gumbo, which did have an excellent roux. One of us had the lunch special«Whiskers» — a large catfish filet, lightly fried and fluffy — actually tasty. I had the lunch, fried shrimp, informed that these 6 shrimp would be larger than the 12 shrimp on the larger, more expensive dinner plate — what an irony! When the shrimp came, I was sure they couldn’t be any smaller! I can’t say the food was bad, only my judgment in making this restaurant a dinner choice on a weekend evening. For this area of the state, seafood prices should be more competitive. But then, some mediocrity is hard to compete with.

Just ok, catfish delicious but the rest left something to be desired. Too pricey for the type & amount of food. Atmosphere — well, looked like you are at someone’s garage sale. You know something is wrong when you drive up on a Friday night and there are only 3 cars in the parking lot! We went in, what can I say we were out of towners!

We ate there for lunch on January 2. Service was good, even though waitress was also cook. There were 5 of us at our table and another table with a family. I had the small shrimp dinner, everything was frozen not fresh — you could smell the ammonia on the shrimp. Even the hush puppies tasted frozen. Others at table also had gumbo and seemed to enjoy it. I could not finish meal and later on had stomach issues. May have just been me, no one else was sick. Service was prompt and nice, but will not return.

Best gumbo I’ve had in a long time. Service was good. Portion size was a little on the skimpy side for the price, but over all we will eat there again.

Ate here Tuesday, Sept. 2 with a group of friends. I was looking forward to a good seafood plate. I ordered the combination platter of oysters and shrimp. The menu said 6 of each. The oysters were small but tender. I was disappointed in their size. then the shrimp were OK. There might have been 6 of each but I was busy visiting and did not count what was on my plate. I was really disappointed in the amount of food I received for $ 19.99 then having to pay an additional 75 cents for sweet potato fries. With my tea, the total bill was $ 27.43 which included the tip since there was over 6 of us. The service was good but as I said the food was not up to what it cost. I should have gotten one of the lunch specials instead and saved my money for eating seafood somewhere else. I don’t think I will visit this place again anytime in the near or far future

Stopped here for lunch today. Kendall had the Hamburger on Jalapeño bread it was amazing! French fries were homemade and portion size was adequate. I had fried shrimp lunch special it came with 6 shrimp, cup of seafood gumbo(needed seasoning) I opted for onion rings which were homemade and hush puppies. Cost $ 9.99 not bad,(I am somewhat partial to PineTree Lodge and kept comparing everything to that – ) Overall I will visit here again!

I have been looking forward to coming here. Seeing reviews, interviews, and even a silly and badly done YouTube video( ), we had to try this place out. We came a little after typical lunch time and pretty hungry. I have to say that their appetizers are much better than the food. The kitchen food is mostly fried. We did not have any boiled food and that food looked like it was coming from a different part of the restaurant. Our waitress was a bit aloof and seemed either tired or just confused. But we got a chance to meet Peggy. She took our money with and offered a fairly sour attitude. I am not sure what her problem was but honestly between totally fried food and her sour attitude, I am not sure I will return. It is a bit hard to find but they at least have some good signage to get you there. I may try it again at another time I am down there.

I ate here twice. The first time it was the middle of a weekday afternoon and we were the only customers. The service was excellent and so was the food. Impressed by the food and the unique environment we decided to take a friend from Missouri a few weeks later. Never again. The second time it was a weekend afternoon and they were packed. We luckily got a table on the back patio fairly quickly, but that was the only part of the service that was quick. Twenty minutes passed before our drink order was taken. After that it was at least another twenty minutes before we received our drinks and were able to order our food. We’d hoped to be in and out fairly quickly instead we spent nearly two hours getting no refills and inevitably receiving crappy food. Maybe if there had been more waitstaff the experience and service would have been acceptable, but the food wasn’t worth it.

I’ve long wanted to try this place as it is located near my hometown. Atmosphere was inviting and nostalgic. Arrived at noon on Sunday, and it got busy around 12:30, with only a couple of empty tables. The whole time I was sitting there, I wondered whether the customers were first-timers or regulars. If they were regulars, I soooo wanted to talk to them and ask them why they liked the place. When I walked thru the door, the host/waitress asked for my drink order, which I thought was kinda strange and a bit zealous. I ordered a Coke, which I knew in these parts was a generic term, and it could have been a Coke, Pepsi, or an RC. Immediately after I sat down, the same waitress came over with my coke(with a small-case«C)» and asked me for my order. I told her that I need a couple of minutes to look at the menu. I asked if they had raw oysters(which is my all-time favorite food, BTW). She had to check. She returned and said it was $ 13.99 for half-dozen. Really?! Needless to say, I passed. After my meal, I asked her for the price for a full-dozen. She returned and said she made a mistake earlier. Half-dozen was $ 9.99, full-dozen as $ 13.99. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think that’s a bit overpriced for this area. For Nebraska, perhaps not. I ordered a bowl of gumbo with potato salad side. Waitress said, «I’ll get that right out». She was right, as it came in ~30 seconds. Rice in gumbo was VERY undercooked. The fellow who rang-up my bill at the end said, «That’s Ms. Peggy’s doin’. She likes it like that». My opinion: Rice should NOT be crunchy. Pasta can be «al dente»; but not white rice. I consider myself a gumbo connoisseur. The gumbo was«ok»(just«ok»). Roux could be a bit darker, but perhaps that’s my preference. Shrimp were not fresh, and it could use some crab meat(I realize some people do not like oysters). Again overpriced: $ 12.99 for bowl of gumbo is not typical for the area. The potato salad wasn’t bad, but it could use less mustard(actually I like mustard in my potato salad, but that had a bit too much for my liking). Funny that right after my waitress(Angie?) brought out my food, she brought me my bill. I brought a newspaper, and was considering staying a while and ordering dessert. I guess my waitress was telling me that she didn’t like me, and it was time to move-on, AND that I didn’t need dessert(smile). Other than being overpriced, my biggest complaint was that the place didn’t feel clean. The floor could use a good moppin’(yes, even under the table legs and along the baseboards), and everything could use a good cleaning. The floor was very sticky under my booth(the soles of my shoes are still sticky). Top edges of booth seats and individual chairs were oily, and the windows were dirty. Men’s bathroom was fairly clean, but the sink and light switch could use a good cleaning too. Yuck. Remember this is a public restaurant, not a pool-hall. Finally — and it’s UN-related to anything, but it just kept staring at me – There was a stupid laminated«Front Flip» app poster mounted high on the condiment tray on my table. What is that? It looked like a Lotto game, or something. Remove it and replace it with something less tacky looking, and helpful, interesting or humorous. On a scale of 1-to-5(with 5 being excellent) … – food: 3 – service: 3 – atmosphere: 3−½ – cleanliness: 3 – price to value: 3 Gee, that’s a «Solid 3», although Unilocal’s definition of 2-Stars is more appropriate: «Meh, I’ve experienced better».

I heard nothing but great reviews about Peggy’s. And I must say, they were all lies. My burger was delicious, but the fries were a joke. The staff is alright. My husbands food was just awful. He ordered chicken strips and fries, and they were just frozen strips maybe the size of a thumb. We spent way too much money on our food and we could have made it better ourselves. Never will we ever go back to that place.

No. Never again. I must have been drunk the first(and only other) time I ate here. After this morning’s meal, I feel quite disillusioned. Issues; 1. Incompetent waitstaff 2. Quality of food 3. Unjustifiable price point 4. Styrofoam cups? Regarding waitstaff; I am not an ageist, but if an establishment has the level of patronage that this place does in busy hours, hire staff that can hear and walk with efficiency. I did not receive what I ordered(grilled gator taco came to the table fried — did not, in the least, resemble the one eaten by Jim«King of the Road» Whatshisname on his show) I had to remind two different waitresses that I never received my appetizer(fried crawfish pistolette), one of whom replied«Yeah, those take longer to cook than the meals themselves.» Sweet heart, that crap is frozen and fried — don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining. Regarding food quality The cup of gumbo that came before the meal was legit! I don’t consider myself a big gumbo fan, but I wish I would have just ordered a huge vat of the brown stuff instead of a $ 15.00 «taco.» My lunch date’s meal was the«crab cake dinner,» consisting of two frozen, breaded, Walmart-quality paddies of fake crab meat and some cold, floppy fries that looked like they needed to be sprinkled with Cialis instead of salt. Regarding price point Two entrees, one appitizer, 35 bucks. I would happily toss my plastic at that size of a bill in a larger city, or on some home-cooked fare, but this is outrageous. Dinner by Sysco. Regarding Styrofoam Stop it. You look like asshats. We originally sat on the back porch to enjoy the early spring bayou sights, but the staff forgot we were out there and never took our order. After 25 minutes, we moved inside. Should have just walked out.

Loved this little place. Food was great, priced reasonable. Staff is very friendly. Live music is played on weekends, which my wife enjoyed. Brought friends with us the second time we went back, Only thing is it is very small dining area, you may want to call ahead if there is a group going. The homemade Deserts are great!

Peggy’s is a little shack right on the Bayou. They have a dock you can pull right up to, tie your boat, and walk right in. It has a very unique enviornment, everyone who works there is extremely friendly. The food is fantastic! I recommend the Jalapeño Bread on ANY burger you get(it’s not spicy, i promise). The only downfall is that the wait-staff varies by miles. Some are absolutely amazing, but one got every single order at our table wrong, some more than once. — If you go request the young girl as your waiter, she is absolutely fantastic.
