Salvation Army

I refuse to buy new clothes anymore for the most part. I love this place and have found some great stuff here. The Salvation Army can’t be beat for the awesome color coding. Wish all clothing buying experiences were similar.

Lots of designer clothing and shoes. I was so surprised to see high-​quality, like-​new stuff here.

I don’t want to write a review about this SalArmy location. Actually, I don’t want to tell anyone about it, because I don’t want anyone to know about it. Why? Because I want it to be MINE, ALL MINE!!!
Please, oh thrift store gods, don’t let this location fall victim to the boutique-​thrift-​store syndrome that has struck down the Rochester Hills and Royal Oak locations. I should not be able to go buy the same clothing brand-​new for THE SAME PRICE elsewhere. I don’t want a curated selection to flip through. I want a good solid thrift store with good stuff and thrift store prices! On my first visit I managed to drag fifty bucks’ worth of stuff up to the register and gave a much-​needed kick in the pants to my work wardrobe… fifty bucks! Needless to say, I looked like a walking (staggering) clothing rack, with pairs of shoes dangling off available fingers.
This location is nowhere near as large as the RH store, but it has a fairly comparable selection of great brands names, and it’s just as spick-​and-​span and organized. The prices are easily half of the RH and RO stores. They apparently run the same sales, so if you don’t find a satisfactory haul at the «boutique» SalArmys, head over to this location to scratch your five-​for-​$ 5 itch.
No wait, don’t. Forget I said that. MINE MINE MINE!!!
One star docked only because the lines can be a little slow… when I was last in, there were only two registers open even as the line grew longer and longer. The employees were friendly, though, and there’s plenty of parking.
So in conclusion, stay away from this SalArmy… MINE!!!

just came back here for the first time in years! i remember frequenting this particular salvation army in my high school days. i always had a lot of fun and that was no different this time. overall, the place is pretty nice, which i don’t like for a thrift store. i’m more into the ones where everything is dirt cheap but you have to dig a lot. i think a-​ok describes my feelings pretty well.
first of all, the prices here are high. relatively anyway. for instance, i’d say most dresses are in the six to ten dollar range, with formal dresses going as high as eighty (wedding). now that i type that, up to ten doesn’t seem too unreasonable, but i try not to pay too much for old stuff. fortunately, they frequently has sales! when i was last there, certain color tags were half off or five items of clothing for five dollars. not bad.
secondly, the selection is not bad. they have a good range of stuff here. be careful of stains though! they are rampant. sometimes you can get really good stuff. i found a jason wu for target dress (unfortunately too small) in almost new condition (seven dollars, but half off), and my brother found a bape tee for two dollars. (i had never heard of that, but found later that it would retail new for a hundred dollars. ridiculous.) and then there are the other thrift store treasures of course — something every time.
third, this place is very well-​organized. i love getting old sheets to use as muslin, and these are labeled really well (eg, king size, one piece; or twin set three pieces) so you don’t have to open them up to see what and how big they are. they also have actual cuts of fabric that are labeled with yardage. super helpful!
finally, they have fitting rooms! lots of roomy, clean ones with doors that actually close. nice.
oh and side note, they play the radio overhead and it’s really static-​y. why can’t they just change it to a different channel! yeesh. in conclusion, not somewhere i’d go out of my way for, and i’m not in this area much, but i’ll make it a point to try to stop by if i’m near.
