Orcutt 76

Had perviously gone to another shop and the car failed for ODB monitor and was told that I would have pay again to re-​smog the car. A co-​worker recommending going to Orcutt 76 station, where «you pass or don’t pay». Got the OBD monitors ready and took it in. Car passed! Very friendly, courteous, and quick. Thank goodness for Orcutt 76. I had my oil changed at jiffy lube a month ago, yesterday the check oil light came on and I stopped in Orcutt 76 for oil. Bill offered to take a look. When we opened the hood was I not only low on oil but my air filter compartment had not been closed at all! Bill and Orcutt 76 prevented me from what could have been thousands in damage. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

By far the best smog check shop in the area. I went there for a smog check hoping I didn’t need an appointment. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. They offer pass or don’t pay (my truck passed thankfully). It was a pleasure to find friendly/​fast service.

I went assured that cars that don’t pass aren’t charged. This really helped since I was unsure whether I had driven the car around «enough» following a Check Engine Light fix at the dealership a week prior. Sure enough, the car did not pass. The guy at Old Orcutt’s 76 said not to worry, it’s a common occurrence he’s seen, drive it around normally more, and come back to get it re-​checked when I was ready. He even took the time to hook up the scanner again to show me how close the car was to meeting all the conditions to pass. I came back a week later, and the car passed with no problem.
Out-​the-​door pricing for smog check was $ 53.50 (varies depending on car and year). Don’t forget to check their website for a possible $ 10 smog check coupon!

Although I live about ½ mile from this business, I had not been there much other than for smog checks. My ’72 Jeep just quit completely about 5 blocks away. I had some friends pusth me to Orcutt 76 but they were closed for the evening. I left it there and walked home. Came back the next and explained to Mark that I had absolutely no electrical at all… not even the horn. He said he was sick and his partner wasn’t in so he was doing smog only that day.
I said, no problem, get to it whenever you can. Around noon I got a call that my Jeep was ready. When I picked it up, he explained that he had charged up the battery so he could check the other electrical components. He and I both had suspected a bad regulator or alternator. He originally could find nothing wrong, so he figured he would just have to return it to me with the problem unsolved. He had the engine running with the hood up. When he closed the hood, the engine died. That was pretty weird.
He re-​opened it and carefull inspection revealed that a support brace on the hood was somehow coming into contact with a battery terminal and shorting it out. He put some rubber insulation on the support bar where it hit the terminal, replaced a few wires that had «fried out» and redid the ground circuit. The charge was $ 14 for parts plus an hour of diagnostic and labor time.
He could easily have told me that I needed a new alternator and/​or regulator for a whole lot more money. I was impressed with his honesty and knowledge. I wiill be back.

So this isn’t the 76 with the car wash, this one is down Clark Blvd. in Old Orcutt. Just so ya know…
I used to work at the salon next door, would go to the 76 regularly for a drink or to get gas after work. All the employees, especially Dena up front and Bill back in the garage are extremely friendly and helpful.
The mechanics are stand up guys, would absolutely trust them with my vehicle, they’re honest and fair. I took my truck there for everything for four years, never a problem or headache. Wish I could have taken them with me when I moved, it’s hard to find a trust worthy mechanic.

Well, the axiom of «Get good service, tell 3; get bad service tell 15» comes into play here.
Went for fill up & car wash. The guy in front of me in the wash had his car covered with soap, then the rinse cycle refused to work.
I paid for my wash and was waiting next in line. I pushed the Help button on the car wash coding machine… No help… Went inside and explained to the cashier that the guy was stuck with no rinse. His response was «If he pay for Express you get no dryer…» Huh? I said he hasn’t DRIED… He’s stuck with soap on his truck.’ His response: «I can’t go out der. Only one here.» Fine. I asked for a refund of my 5 bucks. He said show me the receipt. I went out, got the receipt and gave it to him… His response now? «You pay with credit card. No refund. Really? How’s that work? Color me GONE!
I miss the old owner and the biker mechanic he had… Gone are the days.
