History

Established in 1999.

eNRG Kayaking is passionate about introducing you to the sport of kayaking, honing your skills, and traveling to foreign rivers to experience other cultures. We strive to explore and protect rivers and while creating and developing strong paddling communities. Kayaking is our outlet to a healthy lifestyle and pristine natural resources. We invite you to come along for the adventure. From out your back door to around the world, you will find a new found freedom through our kayaking program. After 10 years in business and with a well over a century of combined experience, we have taught over 4,000 people to kayak in the Portland area. Now that we have an ON WATER location based at the confluence of the Clackamas and Wilamette River, we are the GO TO Kayak school and retail store in the northwestern Oregon. eNRG Kayaking is a nationally-​recognized leader in kayak instruction, instructor certification, swiftwater rescue instruction, and guide training.

Sam D.

Business Owner

When he is not out traveling the world in pursuit of first or last descents and documenting them on film, you can find Sam Drevo right here in the Northwest teaching kayaking. As owner and operator of Northwest River Guides LLC, dba eNRG Kayaking, Sam builds his curriculum off of twenty years of paddling experience. He brings with him a rich foundation based on years of training on the Potomac River in Washington D.C. under the tutelage of the U.S. Canoe & Kayak Team coaches. His competitive background started as a member of Team USA at the Jr. World Championships in Norway at age 15. He soon earned spots on the US team in every discipline of whitewater kayaking (slalom, wildwater, freestyle, and ocean surfing) and excelled in freestyle ranked #2 overall in the US in 1997, and #6 in the world in 1998. His competitive career was punctuated by his win at the Ford Gorge Games– Outdoor World Championships in Extreme Kayaking in 2001 (aired on NBC Sports).
