Jump n’ Play

A great little spot to take your kids on a rainy day. My two boys and I have been here twice now, once for some free play and once for a birthday party. Kids had a great time. Pros: it’s affordable, $ 6 for unlimited play and free popcorn and hotdogs., has an upstairs play area that’s great for toddlers and my kids, aged almost 7 and 5 love it up there too., it’s a mom and pop business and I love to support a small local business., they have an air hockey table and a basketball game as well as two bounce houses and a tall slide. Cons: the gravel pit that my kids LOVE, is pretty dusty. I think they should rinse off the gravel. And I would prefer that they charged $ 1 for the hotdogs and took off a dollar on admission instead, since we are never going to eat any hotdogs and I saw many people having more than just one, but that’s just my opinion. Overall, fun place to take your kids if you live nearby.

Will not return because: major dust in the rock area, The toddler area is not safe for toddlers and is a down grade from what is. Shown in these pictures. Why would you have a toddler area where you have to walk up a steel staircase and its a socks only, that is an accident waiting to happen if that gate doesn’t get shut behind someone, which I saw happen several times during my visit. There was hot dog machine unattended where children could reach and burn themselves. Staff was young and
proper safety mats just egg crate foam in a cover near climbing equipment. If you care about your patrons fix these things and either do away with the toddler area or have certain days open for just toddlers and make it appropriate for them.

This indoor bounce castle facility opened recently here in Oregon City right in time for the foul-​weather induced stircrazyness. I was excited to finally have a place like this literally around the corner from where we live since our alternatives for indoor play usually involve loading up the car and driving 20 – 30 minutes away.
The kids were in especially great moods this afternoon so I decided to give my wife a break and see what Jump n’ Play was all about.
So, the basics:
It’s $ 6/​kid and the play time is unlimited. Age range is 2 – 12 years. The $ 6 also includes pop corn, hot dogs, water, coffee and tea (coffee and tea for the adults, presumably: P). This made me pretty stoked, and I hope they will keep this since it makes it feel like a total value.
There is a main floor then a loft area roughly half of it’s size. The main floor has two jumpy castles with a nice tall slide in between them. There is also a seating area with an air hockey table. Across from that is the set up with all of the food. Again, there’s a pop corn machine, a hot dog grill (with condiments) and coffee, tea, and a water cooler. You just walk up and take what you want. They also have a giant flat screen set up with kids movies playing.
The loft area is meant for younger kids and is basically a giant playroom with wall to wall toys. My 2 year old and 3 year old went nuts when we got up there. There is another seating area (for parties, I think) and a dig pit with gravel.
Pros:
— I feel like this a great value since snacks are included in the price and the play time is unlimited
— There’s a lot of seating for parents
— The floor plan is very open so you don’t have to worry about losing sight of your kid (s)
— The staff were very friendly were always on the floor monitoring
Cons:
— The stairway leading from the main floor up to the loft is a bit intimidating, especially if you are toting more than one kid. It’s a big climb for the small ones and there is an uncomfortably tall gap below each step. The stairs are made of metal which, accompanied by the cement floor below, was enough to give me the willies thinking about how it’s only a matter of time before there’s an accident. It won’t be pretty. I hope they can find a way to make the stairway feel safer.
— The gate at the top of the stairs to the left is held closed by a simple latch that they rely on parents to keep latched. I’d like to see them make it more kid-​proof, or at least latch automatically when the gate closes.
— The dig pit is filled with pea gravel, but I don’t think they cleaned the gravel off before putting it in since my kids came out of the pit covered in dust. Just a heads-​up for parents who are a bit anal about their kids getting dirty. It would be nice to see them put in something like the crushed up rubber bits at the dig pit at the Portland Children’s Museum.
I’ll definitely take my kids here again since it’s a great value and they absolutely loved it. It would be nice to see them address some of the things I mentioned above, but I can tell they are still in the process of getting everything right.
