History

Established in 1910.

Camp Kern was established in 1910 when Carl B. Kern lead a group of 12 young men on a train ride from Dayton, to Lebanon, Ohio. From Lebanon, Carl and the boys hiked to a small camping area next to the Little Miami river, which they dubbed «Camp Ozone» because there were no existing structures.

After that first summer, Carl B. continued to bring campers each summer until his untimely death in 1917. After Carl’s passing, Camp Ozone was renamed Camp Kern, and has existed at the original site since the first group of boys began in 1910.

Today, Camp Kern has expanded from a summer-only, boys-only facility into a coed camp which operates Summer Camp, Equestrian, Outdoor Education, Conferencing and Ozone Zipline Adventures programs on a year-round basis.

Guests of Camp Kern must be pre-registered and either attend as a part of a larger group, or be signed up through a program offered through Camp Kern. Information about programming and volunteer opportunities are available on the web.
