History
Established in 1998.
Community Motors was founded in 1919 by H.A. Wehmeier, to sell the Elgin automobile. Community Motors gets its name from the fact that there was a store in each Community in Chicago, for a total of 5 branch stores. When the Elgin Motor Car Company went out of business, Community Motors took on a Chevrolet distrubutorship in 1920.
In 1924, after dropping Chevy, Community took on Oakland Motor Car, which became Pontiac. The GMC franchise was awarded to the group in 1970 and the Honda franchise in 1975. In 1982, a new Honda facilty was built in Oak Forest on 159th Street. Community Honda remained at that location until August 2001, when the new facility opened in Orland Park.
Meet the Manager
Dan A.
Manager
With over 30 years of experience, selling everything from washers and dryers to TVs and hot tubs, newly appointed Sales Manager Dan A. is no stranger to sales. But, having spent the last seven years in auto management, this industry, he claims, is totally different.
Not only is the business much faster-paced but auto customers are better informed today, Anderson adds. «It’s the only industry where someone can go online and find out exactly what the dealer paid for the product. If you go to the grocery store, you can’t find out what they paid for hamburger meat!» The auto industry is also more competitive than most, he adds.
Anderson brings that deep understanding of consumer needs and unwavering commitment to every decision he makes. His first order of business was fine-tuning the sales processes over his charge of 14 salespeople. He continues «to maintain and increase customer service and sales, and improve sales training. This is a great dealership with tremendous opportunity.»
