I personally found myself in a situation that potentially could have had me facing 20+ years in prison. Whether or not I commited the crime, the system has a reputation of failing certain individuals, and had their mind made up that I was guilty. Mr. Smith was there for me and my family through this trying time. Although it was a bumpy ride, Mr. Smith did everything in his power to ensure my innocence and give me a second chance at freedom. For that I am truly grateful. If it were not for his patience and determination, who knows how things could have ended up. If at ever I was in need of an attorney’s assistance again, I would call on Mr. Smith all the way!

I certainly wish I could give negative 10 stars. Smith’s representation of a family member illustrated to me that he is incapable of zealously advocating for his client. The client here was arrested as a minor and Smith requested to have him released on bond one time. Ten months later, as it became evident that the prosecution did not have a case, Smith did no motion practice to request evidence not be entered at trial and he never requested that the youth be released on bond. When asked why he had not done so, he said he did once (over ten months ago). Oh, and I thought that an attorney was to communicate with his client. Smith did not inform the youth’s father of the case details. Please note that the client requested his father (who hired the attorney) be involved and engaged in his representation. Smith would wait until the day of to tell the family that there was a hearing or important court conference (ie he would call at 8 to notify them that there was an 8:30 hearing). And when asked to provide a case strategy, Smith was unable to do the same. I’m an attorney and the poor legal advocacy skills exhibited by Smith made me very embarrassed for the profession and extremely sadden for the innocent! The youth, who spent his birthday in jail, as well as all significant holidays, is now serving two years because Smith encouraged him and told him he could not try the case. The case involved a burglary where the victim was unable to identify the youth who had significant markings on his body and has a distinct look. The victim stated there were three men involved and the two defendants who were in prison had conflicting testimony on whether or not the youth was involved. There were fingerprints all over the apartment and the two defendants’ prints were all over. However, the youth’s prints were nowhere. The prosecution kept on putting off the trial and each time would come forth with a plea bargain that was less than the previous offer (one day ten years and then four and then two — most would recognize that the prosecution could not prove its case). Each time I, an attorney, requested information to tell the youth’s parents, Shawn was not able to communicate a clear strategy or explain anything he did on the case. His deposition was extremely poor. But. He did show up to the proceedings. Unprepared but he appears. He doesn’t know the case, but he says he’s good. OK. Just don’t expect any returned phone calls or texts. Select another attorney.
