Yo! Ashley K wanted to go on a haunted hay ride while we were out the other night and he googled while we were driving… This website: lead us to Orlando’s Haunted Maze… someones backyard. Yes, someones backyard. Yes, let me repeat, someones backyard. We were so confused when we arrived but decided that we were already there so we should just check it out. There was a table setup next to a house with a ton of people dressed up as characters and behind them… a huge black tarp like setup that just felt creepy. So we walked up to the table where I paid $ 5 each and signed my «Death Certificate» explained as, if you need an ambulance this basically says we can call one for you… awesome! They then notified us that the characters(forget the actual name she used) were on a 15 minute break but we could get in line and wait for them to return. However, their«break» was them snacking, drinking and relaxing there with us. So all the people we saw dressed up, were actually the ones working this maze. So since I had NO idea what I was in for, somehow seeing everyone on break made me feel better. Some of them were even trying to intimidate us while waiting in line. Props to the priest with the 666 on his forehead for never breaking character… you truly did creep me out. Also, the kid with the clown outfit on asking if he was pretty… you ROCKED… until you broke character… you really did have me going. So, if this was indeed a legit haunted attraction I would have been bummed to see all the characters out of character. However, since this is someones backyard and they run this for the simple joy of being in the spirit of Halloween, I appreciated it. Looking back on this now, I enjoyed myself, however, waiting in line we were horrified. This is how real scary movies start. Kid googles«haunted hayride» Kid ends up at someone’s house Kid signs death certificate Kid’s friends & fam issue missing person’s report Am I right? Luckily I am writing this review so you know I made it out alive. But let me tell you what went on inside: It really is just huge tarps set up to create an intricate maze in this person’s back yard. I believe the theme was insane asylum but when you began going into the different rooms, there really was just a mosh of everything frightening. It’s PITCH black so that was the most frightening, really not knowing where you were going. And they don’t send you in with strangers, you go in with who you came with and there were only 2 of us. So yes, I started in the front but when the gore scene came, you best believe I shoved Ashley in front! I think the scariest thing was the dark corners where people were hiding that you could FEEL they were there but couldn’t see them until you had to walk past them. So creepy. Also, since it’s someones backyard, you are walking around on dirt so my feet in sandals, were FILTHY after I left. But, worth it. My two favorite scenes: The room with the TV flickering and the insane clown asking if you would stay to watch TV with him. The exorcism room where the priest who was haunting us while waiting was performing an exorcism and followed us out of the room and while behind the wall(tarp) when we were in another room kept repeating bible verses. Props! Overall I am proud that we went through with it not knowing ANYTHING about it. And, I may even return next year, year 6, to see if they just keep getting better.
