Its kind of messy inside, seemed unclean. Decent sushi tho.

I feel like maybe Sushi Hatsu used to be a great restaurant. It seems like the worsening economy has hit this little place and you can see the effect in portion size and décor. The restaurant felt a little dingy and outdated. The food was good, but sparse. All the employees were really nice and helpful. It made me feel a bit sad.

I did not go here for the sushi, but went for the chicken terryaki lunch box. It was fairly inexpensive, I paid $ 8.95 for their chicken terriyaki lunch box, which consisted of well… chicken terryaki, along with rice, ginger salad, miso soup, and bean sprouts(which I substituted for more rice). All of the food was delicious! I had enough left over to have for dinner tonight, which is always a plus when you have no food at home :) The restaurant was almost completely empty, was very quiet, and the chairs at the bar… hillarious! They’re like your grandma’s dinette kitchen chairs. You know, the ones on wheels filled with lots of foam with an annoying print on them. Yup, those were the bar seats, except minus the wheels and raised up with a foot rest. The décor seemed to clash with the theme they were going for. The service was a bit slow and we had no silverware or napkins when we got our food. It took a while for the food, but it was cooked fresh and was delicious, so I can’t complain too much. I would defnitly go back here again and recommend it. Sorry this wasn’t any help for you sushi lovers…

Great sushi here. I split the boat and everything on-board was great. My wife saw some noodle dish that was served to another diner and asked for that. It was some Korean noodle dish thats not on the menu. It was really good also. I’m taking a star off for the damn huge TV and the waiter that seemed afraid of customers. I hate TVs & dining. It you want lengthy and intricate dining experience details, see other reviews.

I used to come here all the time before Bento opened. Little Ben would greet me by name when I walked in. The other day I realized I hadn’t been to Hatsu in like three years so I decided to go back. I of course sat at the bar and chatted with Ben(who I’m pretty sure forgot who the hell I was) about business and such. I got some Edemame, some white tuna Sashimi, and the Key West Roll. The roll was kindof bland but my biggest gripe was that my Sashimi was still a bit frozen in the center. It still tasted good so I didn’t complain and just let it sit there for a minute to thaw. I left with the impression that business has slowed and maybe the quality of food has gone down with it. I would still go back. It’s a casual, authentic Japanese sushi place. No loud music. No bright lights. I can stop by after work, still in my scrubs, and not feel awkward. And Ben is fun to talk to whether he knows your name or not.

I came here yesterday for a special birthday dinner, and my oh my!!! This place is definitely a gem. When you first walk inside, an air of quaintness and relaxation lifts your spirit. Nice and cozy, family-like… perfect for the special dinner date you’ve been longing for. The staff was amazing! Very polite and… might I say rather handsome! But that’s besides the point here!(: Or is it… anyways.~ On ward to the food: D. I have NOIDEA. what my bf ordered. His family goes here often, so the chef just brought a heap lot of goodness to the table. Most of the dishes seemed Korean to me, and I’m pretty sure they were(since he’s Korean) I’ll try my best to explain the dishes with my. Korean background cuisine world… Spicy noodle fish soup: HOTHOT, SPICYHOT! If you LOVE spicy food, this dish is a MUST … It comes in a huge claypot and the color just screams ”eat me if you’re hot like me!” Chewy noodle awesomeness and the tofu … was so soft. You could really taste the soul and flavor of the food put inside as well as the added heat. I’m really weak when it comes to spicy food. but pretended I could when I was there. and ended up drinking 4 glasses of water + having a runny nose LOL. Like I said, if you love spicy food. Order this! Side Dishes: ~Kimchi: This kimchi wasn’t made from cabbage leaves, it looked like a dark green herbs… or something. I’ve never had Kimchi before, but if this is how the real stuff tastes like… YUmmy! Very crispy and light, the flavoring was sour and tangy with a pickled feel to it. You can really taste the overall flavor of the greens, which was great. Perfect side dish for eating rice with. ~White bean sprouts: These white beans had huge sprouts!!! Very fresh and tasty ! Love the texture ~Chewy sea plant.: It’s not sea weed. more like sea plant. I LOVETHIS. It’s so addicting and super yummy and since it’s green it must be healthy, right? You cannot go wrong with it! Chewy texture and so tasty. Bridge of Happiness(this isn’t really the name.): I call it bridge of happiness because, when the waiter walked out with a mini wooden bridge I was kinda speechless. Then, I noticed there was food on the bridge. care to guess what it was? Wait for it… wait for it… SUSHI! :D FRESH Authentic sushi rolls, order up here guys! Tender raw fish, beautiful vibrant color. I love this one sushi roll. gosh darn it, I would let you guys know… but I have no clue what it is! Nevertheless, all the rolls had lovely fresh cut flavors that made you think something like ”oh boy. life is good.” Definitely a keeper restaurant(:. Not sure on the pricing, but I saw this place has coupons? Be sure to check it out! (Sorry.for the long. very long… review!)

Wow, this place is a definite diamond in the rough. I was walking to another restaurant around the corner when out of the corner of my eye I see Bibimbap on the outside menu. My compatriots and I agreed we needed to try the sushi and this particular dish, we weren’t disappointed. Service was excellent, food was great quality, and HUGE portions(the lunch specials especially). Nice sized sushi portions ofr the price, definitely the better spot in the area(and surrounding areas IMHO). Definitely give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

This place is a highly authentic Japanese sushi restaurant that does not follow the normality of most sushi spots that try to be hip with bright lights and uppy tempo music… Hatsu is just relaxing and delicious. This place has been opened since the 90’s so they already made a name for themselves in Orlando. What I like most about this place is they make the menu very traditional. I tried an okonomiyaki which is a Japanese pancake(name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning«what you want»,) the taste just put a smile on my face. The pancake consisted of yams, eggs, cabbage, green onions, carrots, and a delicious pickled ginger sauce for dipping. Mmmmm now time for sushi, those samba and crazy tango rolls are a must. The staff is oh so very friendly and they will be more than happy to follow up on any request. Thank you for saving my credit card nicely stashed away from others when I lost it Hatsu. I will continue using it on my sushi craving/I want to explore Japanese food days at your restaurant.

I’m sorry that I have to do this, but I was very let down by this place. I’m visiting from Cali and I’m thinking I might just be spoiled out West. I chose it because all the reviews sounded good, but when I got there, the atmosphere was really Blah. White walls, white floor, white false tile ceiling that was really low which felt like a high school cafeteria. The bar had upholstered seats that were straight from the 80’s. One Star for friendly service and One Star for good Miso(2 Stars total). The rolls were below average though, two different rolls but they tasted identical.

Sit at the sushi bar, and you will be treated like royalty! I have created my own rolls on dates, and actually on the Wall of Rolls! The sushi here is definitely the FRESHEST downtown. I would pick this place before any other sushi place in the area. Amura comes in close second. The staff here are friendly and personable, and they are even open a little later than you would expect!

This restaurant is located in the heart of downtown. Their lunch specials are affordable and are sure to fill you up. I haven’t been for dinner yet but for a quick lunch this is a great place.

Along side Washington St in Downtown Orlando lies a sushi restaurant right next to the new Gringos Locos. If it wasn’t for a coworker giving me the details and know about this place, I might not have known or went there. Boy was I missing out! What I like about this place is it is quaint, and I felt extremely comfortable eating alone when I went there one day for lunch. I wanted a place I could relax during my lunch break, and this was a great place to kick back. I ate at the sushi bar and almost immediately when I walked in I was greeted by everyone there, nice & friendly staff. The sushi chef who I was sitting in front of was the sweetest man and wanted to make sure I was taken care of and given the details about the type of sushi they have. I wish I would have gotten his name, but will next time. For the price, the lunch boxes give you a good amount of food. I ordered the Sushi Appetizer + Chef’s Choice Lunch Box, and that came with miso soup to start with, ginger salad, 5 pieces of nigiri sushi(very fresh fish!), and Tuna roll. I finished everything :) My goal is to go back to have the custom rolls, and try out the sake. One thing I don’t know that I would like to find out is if there are happy hour specials? If anyone knows, let me know!

Sushi joints can be a dime a dozen in Orlando but one downtown restaurant is the hiding place of a true beacon of flavor — and it’s not even sushi. There exists a meal in downtown Orlando that will change your whole outlook on life. It’s called Bi Bim Bap and it can only be found at Sushi Hatsu. Say it with me… Bi… Bim… Bap. That’s right. It’s a Japanese Hot Pot meal in which sushi rice, assorted vegetables, ground beef or tofu is heated super hot and cooked together in an all stone bowl. Once ready, an egg is cracked on top which begins cooking immediately. The meal is served with a spicy sauce that you add to flavor. If it sounds like something a group of Japanese warriors would be eating huddled around a camp fire somewhere on the countryside — that’s because that is EXACTLY what it’s like. Bi Bim Bap is an amazing and unforgettable meal that will fill your belly to capacity for less than the cost of a couple of boring«me too» sushi rolls. !!!UPDATE!!! This just in. Bibimbap is a Korean dish. Not Japanese. What it’s doing at a Japanese sushi restaurant is beyond me but I’m thankful that this fish out of water dish resides one block from my office downtown.

Dude, Ben’s the man! Definitely a simple kind of place to the point of being a good example of zen. The prices are definitely affordable, particularly when you compare them to the other sushi places downtown. The best part about going to Hatsu is getting creative and making up your own roll on the fly. «hey ben, i’m in the mood for a roll with lots and lots of cream cheese and cucumbers and… uhm… i dunno some of the crunchy flake things and some krab AND tempura shrimp, in one roll.» No problem. The service is always good and friendly. i’ve found it really difficult to get the kind of personable, down to earth experience i get here at any of the other sushi places in town.

Excellent quality sushi! I haven;t been there in years, but it is a nice quiet hole in the wall. Not much for decoration or atmosphere, but quaint. You only real entertainment, even though they have big screen TVs, is to sit by the window and watch people go by. A fun guessing game is to figure out which bar/club people are going to. Now to the food. My gauge of any sushi restaurant is(1) the smell of fish(absence is good),(2) the spicy tuna, and(3) the availability of Eel Sauce. They passed! I actually had a negative attitude about the Tuna since the last two places I went to had bland«spicy tuna.» This surpassed my expectations… except for one thing… …prices have gone up drastically from what I remember. Get those prices down, because your atmosphere does not sustain this. I will go to Ichiban, Amura, or Shari to spend more than I should. Miso is good. They use the white paste not the brown… amember dat. Dafe
