Track Shack’s Walk Run Accomplishment Program – WRAP

Track Shack’s WRAP is a great program if you want to start a running fitness program or if you are already a runner and want to be held to some accountability.
It costs $ 75 for 10 weeks. I signed up for the afternoon session which met from 6−7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays Downtown. On Mondays we met at the track at Howard Middle School and on Wednesdays, at Lake Eola. You also get a 15% Track Shack discount during the length of the program so it’s the best time to get some good running shoes which are a MUST!
I signed up because I like doing 5ks but hate the running part. If that makes any sense. This program helped train me and get my body used to running even if it is at a short distance. At the start of the 10 week session, the running practices were full but by the end, many had fallen off the program and stopped attending so there was only a handful of us.
Every night we met, Coach Bob would have us warm up by having us walk several laps and then try to run more than walk as much as possible. He’s a super likeable guy and 10 time Boston Marathon runner so if anyone is going to hold a session like this, it would be him! Monday nights he did more timed sessions where we would do a variety of things like run ¼ miles in a row or do relays split into teams based on speed. Wednesdays were more about warming up and running/​walking at our own pace. Lake Eola wasn’t my favorite location mainly because of parking issues and the amount of people on the running path which made running nonstop frustrating.
Overall, I had a positive experience. I can certainly run alot farther than I did to begin with. But I know that to keep at it, I have to continue to run even after the program has ended. I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to start running but doesn’t know where to begin. Money well spent if you stick to it!

Last year I signed up for Track Shack’s WRAP program because I wanted to start running. I am a big girl… running isn’t something that I generally do. However I set a goal for myself, I wanted to run a 5k, and I knew I needed help to get there.
I did the downtown WRAP program that meets on Mon and Wed nights at either Lake Eola or Howard Middle. Coach Bob is a friendly guy, life long runner, who has gotten the likes of me to run many times over.
The first night we were to walk a lap and then run intermittently, lamp post to lamp post the next lap. I was doubtful, but those lamp posts are pretty close together, so I gave it a shot.
Coach Bob «How’d you do?‘
Me: ‘Pretty good, I jogged every other one’
Coach Bob «There is no jogging here, only running.»
How very Yoda-​like, and very cool.
In my first week I ran halfway around the lake. Second week, a full lap. In 3 weeks I was running over 1 mile at a time. THIS WAS INSANE! CRAZINESS!
Crazy good, that is.
So cut to the chase, I’ve now run 2 5ks, improving my time second by second with each one, and am on to my third this weekend. If you’re looking for a way to get the ball rolling, or wanting to train with a group to improve your time, check this out!
