Description

Specialties

Our family winery produces limited production of red wines styled with a nod to the Tuscan and Umbrian red wines we love so much. We produce a classic style of whites, sur lie in oak barrels, that pair as well with foods as they do with cheese and fruit. Beginning with the 2010 harvest, our whites and reds rest in oak barrels sourced from the Appalachian region.

Our fruit wines are made from our estate grown fruit. These wines are 100% fruit with no added flavorings, concentrates or essence. Our goal is to make wine from the fruit of the tree and earth just as we make wine from the fruit of the vine.

We are committed to using a minimal amount of chemicals in the production of our grapes and in the creation of our wines.

History

Established in 1976.

Reid’s Orchard came into existence in November 1976 with the purchase of our home farm. Since that time, our family has grown and so has our farm! From the beginning we have direct marketed our produce at farmers’ markets in the Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia area. In addition to our more traditional plantings we also have a large selection of heirloom apples and tomatoes. In March 2009, we opened the doors to our winery tasting room and began doing business as Reid’s Orchard & Winery. In addition to our farmers’ markets, we now have two winery tasting rooms — the Winery Tasting Room at the Home Farm and our Winery Tasting Room at Jennie’s House in Gettybsburg. Jennie’s House is a civil war era home and is the birthplace of Mary Virginia Wade, the only civilian to perish during the three horrific days of fighting in Gettysburg during our American Civil War.

Meet the Manager

Claire R.

Manager

Hi, My name is Claire and I am the tasting room manager at the Home Winery for Reid’s Orchard and Winery. I can’t wait to meet everyone that comes out to visit. Definitely ask to see the barrel barn, and feel free to ask me any questions you would like about our wines or wine in general.
