Danny’s Bar & Grill

Decent menu, tasty food, and nice beer selection. Also, great location. If only the service wasn’t so bad… I have had bad experiences with waitresses multiple times, whether it is poor customer service, bad attitude, or very slow service. Customer service definitely needs improvement!

I have been here twice and both times I was completely blown away. They have amazing bands and even more amazing food! I love the décor because you can spend hours looking at the really cool Danny’s sign above the door. Worth every penny!

Cheap tacos, expensive beer, and bitchy waitresses. I can’t understand why this place is still around after so long. I haven’t been there in a few years and thought I’d check it out to watch a Royals game. It hasn’t changed. I won’t be going back anytime soon.

So went on a Tuesday night for 50cent Tacos!
Apparently the Taco special offered on Tuesday & Thursday nights are no longer 50, but 75cents. I’m not going to get all bent out of shape over a quarter (well, 10 quarters/​$ 2.50 between my tacos and my boyfriend’s) but come on!

So we chose this place based on their specials they advertised online. When we got there the prices were different and when we told the waiteress she said we were wrong. Update your website! When you are on a budget these things matter.

Total chaos and no one in charge. Admittedly a busy day with March Madness but the place was not 100% full. One reason… people were seen leaving right and left cause no service for 45 minutes or more. Our came in about 35… But lucky just before game over. Fish and chips were okay… not great. The side of slaw was served in a silver shot size cup… maybe yielding one spoonful… this was the real joke… what are they thinking? We actually laughed out loud. Like all too many Joco bars, the beer list was bud light and bud light. Not a single stout on tap or even in bottle and KC has what? 10 craft breweries? Like so many places like this no manager in site and the men’s bathroom was disgusting. Place needs a manager who cares.

Service was excellent from bartenders Vinny and Jennifer. They got our drinks out extremely fast and made sure everyone felt welcome.

excellent food overall and the best chicken tenders! great bartenders every time. one poor table service experience with –josephinne? slow, inexperienced, made an error and did not offer to remove it from our bill. Great bar.

I went in on a Sunday afternoon with two specific goals in mind (a) watch some of the Royals game and (b) give my 10 year old daughter a chance to taste the magical bar food known as fried pickles for the first time. Achieved both objectives.
Observations…
(1) It was dead in there. Like I said, it was a Sunday afternoon.
(2) The servers were very nice and sufficiently attentive.
(3) Initially, I was a little «iffy» on bringing a kid into a sports bar. On a Sunday afternoon, it was just fine.
(4) The fried pickles were chip-​style and were pretty tasty. The pickle-​loving kid enjoyed them.
(5) We also split a Reuben sandwich. It was extremely average.
(6) The kid had a soda. I had a Bud draft. Not very adventurous, considering the really impressive selection of beers they have available. If you’re a beer person, I think you’d enjoy a visit there.
So, the Royals lost. The pickles were good. The kid wasn’t exposed to anything inappropriate. The servers were nice. The sandwich didn’t repulse me or anything. The prices were just what you’d expect.

The food is better than you would think.
I went to go see a friend’s band play on a Saturday night. I don’t really have much to say about the place other than the food is delicious and the menu has really just about everything. I got the chicken wrap and was very surprised by it. The tortilla was soft and the dressing was great.

All of my friends seem to love this place for some reason. Perhaps it’s nostalgia from happy hours spent after classes at JCCC? In any case, Danny’s isn’t a great bar, nor do they have decent food… Not even for bar food.
Service was very slow here and the server had to be reminded several times to retrieve the drinks we ordered. Forget about getting your waters refilled too. Also, don’t expect the appetizers to come out before the entrees. It’s apparently difficult to put chips and salsa in a basket.
The food here is pretty much what I would have expected if I had gone to Costco, bought bulk bags of frozen sides, and thrown them in the deep-​fryer then covered them with cheese and ranch sauce.
The only plus here is some decent drinks specials… Which you might not be able to get if the servers are all as forgetful as ours was.

Your typical Johnson County sports bar. Tons of TVs, a great selection of beers. Typical bar menu. Game room. Trying to appeal to all tastes and interests.
Their fries could stand to be cooked a touch longer to get that good crisp on the outside. They have a decent French Dip, but it really needs a different bun as it sucks up to much jus and becomes soggy, mushy. The wrong bun just ruins a French Dip.
The food is too salty, but that seems typical at bars. Probably to get you to drink more.
Service is pretty lacking. Don’t ask what is on tap or expect to be offered a drink menu. Although they offer a lot of options, it is up to you to figure it out. Expect to be upsold like crazy. Absolutely everything you order will come with an option to add something to it without being told the upcost.
There is a good mix of music to please just about anyone at some point.

Nice little dive bar. I’ve only ever been here during the day, but the bartender Shannon is great. Drink never goes empty and she remembered my name after one trip.
There are lots of regulars during the day all willing to offer great conversation.
You can get a Boulevard Tank 7 for $ 4!

I love Danny’s. This is evident by the 106 check-​ins I have as I write this. And if you want to know the truth, I check in only about half the time, so since I joined Unilocal a couple of years back, I have been here for tacos and beer about 200 times. The chicken tacos are delicious and healthy. The chicken is grilled, the salsa is homemade, and I can easily eat six.. .but I eat four as I am watching my figure, ha ha.
Danny’s has undergone some changes in management over the past few months, and I was afraid things would change. Well, they did change a little, but in a good way! The tap selection has expanded massively, and in addition to the usual domestics, Boulevards, and Free States, they have a couple of New Belgiums, a Left Hand, Stella, Angry Orchard, Guinness, Lagunitas IPA, and a few others. Service is still excellent, and we are always recognized and welcomed. This is a great Lenexa location to watch a game, get some good grub, and hang out with friends. My only complaint.. .and it is no fault of Danny’s.. .is the people who bring their small children late at night and turn them loose to run around while they booze it up and watch a game. Yes, I judge. It won’t keep me away, though.

Happen to be in town for my 20 yr reunion and this was one of the after places we picked. Brings back memories! The staff was very friendly and I thought the prices were very reasonable!!! Never had the food, only been there for the fun and beverages!

Great place for lunch if you work in the Lenexa area.

It’s very rare that I don’t enjoy my experience at Danny’s. As bar food goes, I’ve always found it to be quite good. Highly recommend the wraps (Buffalito and Caesar), as well as the daily specials.
To me, the thing that most sets it apart from other bars is the service is always quick and friendly. Now, I’ve never been there during live music or a big game. So I can’t speak to how quick and friendly they might be when the place is packed. But during my visits, it’s always been good.

I’ve got to say. If you want to see some live music, and you are in Lenexa, this is definitely the place to go. I cannot speak for what their regular music calendar is. But I feel that Danny’s does a good job of being both a sports bar AND a respectable venue. The stage is actually a stage. And the bar itself does a good job of promoting the show, taking care of the band, & creating an atmosphere that encourages the support of live music.
Danny’s is a few things though. It is a sports bar for sure (MANY TVs). And it is also a grill. And not JUST a «bar and grill’ type grill. The menu is really extensive. You can get salads, sandwiches, pasta, etc. Honestly the menu is HUGE. And everything on it is reasonably priced, too.
Even though it was super busy this most recent time I was there, we still managed to receive good service. I was impressed with our server who had to take food orders, do cocktailing & wind her way through the masses of people there to see the show (which also made it a bit difficult to hear).
There are booths & tables, a large bar, AND an outside area. The bathrooms are clean, and the staff is nice.
Each time I have been there, it was for «louder» type band. So I can’t really assess the actual «sound» for the room. I have a feeling that depending on the band, the sound is probably really GOOD, or slightly too loud. It’s all relative to the type of music, and the amount of people in the room I think. All in all I have had a good experience every time I’ve gone there.
Parking is free, abundant, & well lit.

So I finally tried the 50 cent tacos on Tuesdays… they’re really just dandy. They remind me exactly of Taco Bell… same taste, same quantity. What does that mean? It’s not a great taco, but for a 50 cent bar taco with several affordable drinks… it’s quite a fast, unhealthy treat.
This place is still best for drinks only, where they are quite cheap and served up quickly. Well, it can take some time to get a server’s attention at first (other than at the bar, where it’s always quick), but after that… they keep good tabs on you.
Oh and another recent Friday night trip drinking mostly specials — we had 9 wells (liberally poured), 2 Fat Tire cans (which fall under $ 1.75 domestic can specials, as does Blue Moon) and a Boulevard Wheat for $ 26 with tax.
One thing is that you ALWAYS see some of the same customers in here. I have been there on Fridays at 12am, Sundays at 11am, Tuesdays at 4pm… always in there. That’s not a good or bad thing, just kinda funny.

Lunch review — Friday I was served a salad with rotten lettuce in the bottom. I completely lost my appetite.
I am done with Danny’s. Obviously the employees don’t eat there.
