I ate here yesterday @ 11:00am & became violently ill later that afternoon. I definitely got food poisoning from Fortune Wok, I just had miso soup, house salad &2 nigiri rolls. 24 hours past my visit & I am FINALLY feeling a bit better. I had to take a sick day due to the nasty illness I got. BEWARE!

I was pretty insulted by this restaurant. When Asians eat at Asians’ restaurants, sometimes they get treated like dirt. That happened to me and my family at this place. I will never go there again. Went there on a slow Saturday afternoon, waited 40 minutes before our food arrived. My food was cold, told the waiter about it. Instead of apologizing and asking how to fix this problem, he stormed off mad. He took the prize off for that particular entrée, but was not happy about it. The sad thing about this, if my family were white, we would get treated like royals. Overall, food okay.

Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Kansas City. I’ve had nearly every item on the menu, and can honestly say I have never once been disappointed in the slightest. All of the food is fresh, from the chicken, to the green beans, to the fish. On top of the selection of classic Chinese dishes like orange chicken, broccoli beef, and fried rice, Fortune Wok also offers an extensive sushi menu full of traditional sashimi and nigiri and inventive and new sushi rolls that put a twist on the monotonous menu of your standard sushi bar. Fortune wok is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant, and I would greatly recommend it to anyone looking for a good meal.

There are quite a few vegetarian options and everything I’ve tried has tasted really good. The steamed veggie dumplings are a must! The sushi looked and tasted good, but most of the rolls fell apart when we tried to eat them.

We have eaten here several times since moving here this past summer. We have tried several items on the menu such as: Pad Thai, several different sushis, the honey seared chicken and a few appetizers. Hint: if you get the tempura appetizers with veggies, ask for spicy mayo on the side and dip them in it. You’re already committed to fried… may as well indulge in the mayo dip. Amazing. :-) The food is always fresh & hot. Amazing layers of flavors in many of the dishes. One of the best Pad Thai’s I have had yet. Delicious fried rice. Tasty miso soup. Again, we have tried about 4 – 5 of the main dishes and I can’t complain about any of them. Only strange observation is that there are always 4 – 5 teenage girls standing around behind the counter. At first I wondered why there would be so many, but then as the night went on, we saw there were quite a few to go orders going out the door. So, I’m guessing 2 are for getting the orders ready and taking care of them, and the other 2 are for in house guests? The staff Is always very friendly. The food is amazing. It is definitely one of our go-to places each week. Looks like a little hole in the wall, shopping center place — but you have to try it. It will be a fave!

Don’t let the outer appearance of Fortune Wok & Sushi deceive you. It’s location in a strip mall nearly kept us away, but this is not some mediocre Chinese chain restaurant. I will preface this review by saying that it’s not the best Chinese I’ve had, but it unquestionably beats out competition in this area of the KC metro. We began our meal with an order of crab rangoon and hot & sour soup. The rangoon was actually quite good. Nice and flavorful, with plenty of creamy filling. It was unfortunately lacking on the crab aspect(as is typical), but still very good. The hot & sour soup was also very tasty. Personally, I’m not an enormous fan of hot & sour soup, but this was some of the best I’ve had. While I wouldn’t order it again myself, I would certainly recommend it to those who enjoy such a thing. The entrees are served family style, so keep that in mind when ordering. If everyone orders their own meals, be prepared to have a substantial amount of left-overs. For our meal we ordered the Triple Delight and Thai Basil Chicken Fried Rice. The Triple Delight was a combination of chicken, steak, shrimp, and vegetables, marinated in a brown sauce. This dish is served with a side of steamed white rice. The sauce was a little more sweet than we would have preferred, but the portions of meat were sizable, and the shrimp itself was enormous. That being said, the dish wasn’t particularly flavorful, and not one I would probably order again. However, our second dish was delicious. The Thai Basil Chicken Fried Rice is fairly self explanatory, but the dish was packed full of flavor and by far the highlight of dinner. They included fresh tomato in the dish, which was a nice touch to add an additional dimension to the course. The left-overs were nearly as good as the first time around. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone. Over all, a solid dinning experience. I will happily return, and I recommend that anyone in the area give it a try.

The food is actually good, been going there for years. But this rating is for the customer service. The people answering the phone do not know the menu and also forget to write everything down. I will definitely be thinking twice before I order from there.

This place was a really nice find for us. Our fried entrees were light and crisp, not at all doughy or soggy, with generous fresh vegetables on the side. Service was excellent and the ambience is nice. Prices are fair – it’s a little more expensive than you’d expect from a hole in the wall, but it’s also higher quality, and prices are still cheap compared to what you’d expect in a nice Chinese restaurant. The lunch specials are also a pretty nice deal too.

This is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants and lunch lived up to our expectations! I had the mu shu chicken and 10YO had the chicken lo mein. Both were very good and we would get them again. Service was fast, our waiter was friendly and attentive and the ambiance was perfect for a Chinese restaurant. We’ll be back again soon!

I LOVETHEWOKROASTEDCHICKEN! And the fried rice and egg drop soup are also the best I’ve tasted, although my americanized/child-like palate requires that I add soy sauce to the soup for saltiness ;-) The chicken is bite-sized and a little bit crispy and has the most amazing flavor with just the right amount of spiciness. For comparison, I can’t eat Tobasco or Sriracha because they are too spicy, but I do like Taco Bell hot sauce 1 pack per taco :-) The egg drop soup has some soft carrots and small chicken pieces in it. The fried rice has just the right amount of vegetables. I’ve also tried other meals and the sushi here and everything was delicious, but I just CRAVE the Wok Roasted Chicken! The people here are so nice and helpful, and the music and atmosphere are pleasant and even calming at times. This place even accommodated a large party of 14(including 4 toddlers) on a Saturday afternoon with only a 5 minute wait!

We used to be Fortune Wok regulars when we lived out south. We took a special trip out south recently to check out our old time favorite and we weren’t disappointed. Fortune Wok continues to serve fresh and delicious food and now offers fresh sushi(they were just building the addition when we moved). I always have loved the beautiful décor of Fortune Wok and also the family friendly environment. We had a great server who was very prompt in our service. We started with the sexy roll, what a treat! We couldn’t resist the soup, even though it was summer, and we weren’t disappointed. I had the hot and sour soup, which is a thick and flavorful soup. Hubby enjoyed the egg drop soup; their egg drop soup is the most flavorful you will find. We shared an order of the sesame chicken with brown rice. It had a nice portion of delicious fresh vegetables served alongside of it. The sauce was not as spicy as we would have liked, but it was still delicious. We had enough leftover to take home for lunch the next day. Fortune Wok still stays at the top of my list; I’d love to see a location open in Brookside/Plaza area

Food is good. I love their egg drop soup, pot stickers and sushi. Ambience is good but the service is often not friendly. Also messed up my to go orders in two occasions.

Love their food. The sushi sometimes takes awhile, but well worth the wait. The wok prepared dishes are tasty, and the garlic edamame is AWESOME!

I’ve been coming to Fortune Wok for quite a while now… The ambiance is set as an authentic Chinese/Japanese restaurant and the food follows up with authenticity. Behind the clean, freshly stocked sushi bar is a pro sushi chef who knows what he’s doing… The star sushi roll is definitely the Bonsai Roll, which myself and many of my out of town friends claim as the«best sushi roll we’ve ever had». Inside the roll, shrimp tempura, cream cheese, and crab stick are intricately placed, then a slice of tuna layers the top. On top of the pieces is a bed of tempura green onions that are drizzled with a sweet soy sauce so good that it will make you lick your plate. I honestly order this a couple times a week. And don’t be afraid to mix it up and make it your own. A lot of the time I put salmon on top and asparagus inside the roll to layer the textures of this creamy and crunchy sushi roll. Another star sushi roll for me is the«sexy roll». If you like mango and a citrus twist to your fish then give this roll a try! The rest of the menu is consistent with flavor as well and there is always a list of specials to try; right now it’s the Cantonese spare ribs are a winner on the specials list. Wok roasted chicken and firecracker chicken and shrimp are timeless classics from Fortune Wok as well. You can’t go wrong with the dumplings, which come with a sauce that I could drink. Fortune wok is one of the few restaurant gems in Overland Park!

Pretty good place. Food is good, service is fast but not the most friendly. Seems like they rush you and if dining alone tables with more people get better service and I’m sure I tip just as well or better in some cases. At any rate it’s a pretty good place and in an area with limited options in this category it stands out, barely.

So I want to update that the to go service is horrible. The teen age girls that work up front are more worried about texting and flirting than actually working. My food was cold by the time they got around to giving it to me after I went up and asked for it twice! Only eat sit down side! Great food otherwise

We picked up carry-out from here tonight and brought it to a friend’s house for dinner. Two completely different chicken dishes(wok roasted and hunan) along with green beans was plenty enough for the four of us(along with some crab rangoon which the kids also devoured). For the two boys, we ordered lo mein which came with greasy, undercooked french fries. Probably would have made more sense just to serve it with fried wontons, or even a couple of crab rangoon! I enjoyed both of the chicken dishes. They couldn’t have been more different. I loved the fresh vegetables that accompanied the hunan chicken(my son also devoured the baby corn), but the flavors in all of the dishes could have been kicked up a notch. They spicy dishes didn’t seem that spicy to me. I wouldn’t make the trek out here for carry out, but still would come here for lunch if I’m in the area.

I recently re-discovered this restaurant when I started working down the street. I have been to their other location a few times but didn’t remember it being this good! We usually come during lunch and it is such a great deal. You get so much food! Their salad and crab rangoons are so good! My daughter doesn’t usually eat raw fish but LOVES the samurai roll here! This is now her favorite restaurant. I have been trying something new each time I come in and have not been disappointed! So far my favorite dishes are the wok roasted chicken and samurai roll. If you are craving something fried, I would recommend the orange chicken or lemon chicken — amazing!
