I come here only occasionally, but when I do I’ve found it to be clean and decently stocked. Its best feature is the deli/chinese takeout counter, with a large adjacent lunchroom. Good spot to grab a quick bite if you don’t want to sit down at an actual restaurant.

Okay, so they will be moving to 95th and Antioch soon enough, which will be great for me, because it’s even closer to my office. I come to this Hy-vee for«non-food» items as I only shop at Whole Foods, generally speaking. I can get and send money orders, pay bills, go to the post office(there’s an annex that is open all the time and doesn’t feature the ridiculous lines of the regular post office… note, you CANNOT do international packages here because they don’t have the machine to do customs forms), and go to the pharmacy. They also have a florist if you need something after Whole Foods is closed. The staff is friendly and fast.

There are a few choices for grocery stores in this area that include the Wal-Mart Market, Whole Foods and this Hy-Vee. This location is a bit dated and doesn’t offer the modern atmosphere and choices that a lot of grocery stores do these days. My big killer is that they don’t offer Farm to Market, instead they have their own Hy-Vee brand. This location is scheduled to be closed when the new Hy-Vee is built at 95th and Antioch late in 2011.

Love this place because after I get my «Whole Foods» on, I swing by this place for normal stuff like toilet paper, Cascade… and maybe a few bad things like Blue Bunny and M & M’s. Hey, life is all about balance! Anyway, I don’t think I have ever seen an ice cream selection as kick ass as Hy Vee. Did you know Hy Vee makes their own ice cream line? Try the Hy Vee«Fudge Nut Sundae Light» and you will be a fan! Only one negative… what is the deal with always being sold out of Yoplait light vanilla yogurt? If your always sold out, how about ordering larger quantities? Genius, right?

Of the Hy-Vee’s in town that I’ve been to, this is by far the best one. I’m more of a Hen House shopper but sometimes I slum it at the Price Chopper. But Hy-Vee fills my Shatto root beer milk needs. This particular Hy-Vee has a better produce section and meat counter than the others. It seems like it’s cleaner than others, including the newly remodeled one in Mission. They also have a free kids galloping horse thingy and often put free codes on their Redbox machine. Hy-Vee doesn’t really do it for me, but if I do need to go to one, I travel a little extra distance to get to this one. There’s nothing wrong with Hy-Vee, I’m just used to the Hen House and Price Chopper layouts. My biggest problem with Hy-Vee is the parking situation. They have separate parking spots for handicapped, expectant mothers, drunks, senior citizens, tired people, police and employee of the month(I only made up a couple of those). I understand, and don’t have a problem with setting spaces aside for people who can’t get around as well as me. But, can’t we combine them so it’s an expectant mother/senior citizen spot and maybe cut down on the sheer number of these spaces. They are usually only about 25% full and I end up parking beyond the cart corrals. Odds are I’m going to be carting my 3 kids under 5 into the store and I could use some closer parking. I don’t want a protected spot, just a fair shot at an empty one close to the store. The sooner I get the kids into a race car cart, the better it is for everyone. Let’s economize on the protected class spots(excepting handicapped spots which are set by law) by combining them, leaving 6, and opening up 6 extra spots.
