Shawnee Mission Kia

This is the second car we have purchased from Shawnee mission. The salesman are awesome there. We worked with Dennis H. and Frankie. They are all so helpful and patient there. We brought our granddaughter and grandson in for a used car they went above and beyond making sure they got what they wanted and could afford. I highly recommend going to Shawnee Mission used cars.

Kenzel Simmons sold me a car that I I didn’t even go into looking for! He recommended i take a look and I’m glad I did! Great personality as well!

I don’t get real excited about car dealers, but Unilocaler Daughter and I had a good experience here as she bought her first car. She’d called ahead to schedule a test drive and Quintin, our sales rep, was ready and waiting. They had discussed her price range and he had three cars in mind for her. She fell in love with a sexy black Optima hybrid and an hour and a half later, the deal was done.
The Saturday pickup involved sitting in the waiting area for about 20 minutes before signing all the paperwork, but on a Saturday, I’m sure that’s to be expected. The finance manager had everything ready to go, and soon Quintin had her phone synced (how do you spell that?) and we were off for a celebratory lunch at Nara. On Unilocaler Mom, of course.

After 11 years in a CR-​V, I was really excited to try out the Sportage. They offer some really awesome features, like a panorama roof, compartmentalized trunk space, and all the new bells and whistles that weren’t around in 2005. We contacted a sales guy ahead of time, were pretty excited about some of the numbers he was throwing at us, so we set up a time to meet. After we left the Ford dealership, we e-​mailed him and let him know we would be there in about 20 minutes. Once we arrived, he came right out and said it would be a few minutes: he was still finishing up with a customer. That’s fine: we sat down to wait. Twenty minutes later, he came out and said he was just getting the car pulled up for us. Another 25 minutes later, he said the car was buried behind a couple others: it will just be 3 more minutes. 15 minutes later… an HOUR! after we arrived despite having an appointment, we finally head out to see this car. He shows us the trunk, a couple features and then we get in. The car is DISGUSTING. It is a 2016 Sportage with about 200 miles on it and the inside is trashed. The floor is covered in salt stains (winter, I get it. but it hasn’t snowed in like 2 weeks?). Straw wrappers, crumbs, Reese wrappers… what the hell? So we begin our lovely test drive… oh but not before we have to go to the gas station because, of course, the car is on E. Ugh.
We do the test drive and the car drives fine, I like some of the features and we’ve already talked some numbers. We go back to his desk which is just a computer and one chair. I’d like for him to tell us the numbers on the advanced package that includes the panorama roof, but he simply pulls up the window and says there are none in the area with all wheel drive. ok. How much to get one in? $ 600. Okay, can we order from the factory with everything just as we want it? No.
I wanted to like SIT DOWN and talk numbers and prices of the panorama view, but well, no chairs and this guy was clearly uncaring. We left, and called up Independence Kia. They didn’t have the panorama Sportage in all wheel drive in stock, but they had one in 2 wheel drive that we could test out and see how we liked it! Great! They even sent over the numbers for us via e-​mail.
In the end, we decided not to go out to Independence. When trying to rank the cars we had seen on Saturday (Ford, Honda and Kia) in my head, I just couldn’t separate the crappy experience and disgusting condition of the car, from what I truly liked about the features. We ended up e-​mailing our contact at another dealership that we were on our way. And guess what: when we arrived he had the car we wanted waiting, warmed-​up and ready for us. 3 hours later we walked out with the keys to that same car. Service goes a long way when you’re ready to throw down 20 grand and SM Kia was just a waste of our time.

Go and see Jose Reyna! He is an amazing salesman and treats you with such respect! I’ve never purchased a car from someone like him before. You will see the difference dealing with him

I called the service dept and asked how long it would take to get my wiper blades replaced and air pressure in my tires checked (the tire air pressure dash light was on I explained). The serviceman on the phone said, «not long it sounds like something we can do in the driveway». When I got there a service guy asked me to move my soft cooler bag in front of the driver’s seat, which he referred to as my little lunch bag or whatever it is. I explained I was an Über driver and it was for holding bottles of cold water for the passengers. The service guy then said, ok, «Hotrod» we’ll get you fixed up. I waited in the lobby a half an hour and went back to the service desks area and asked what was up with my car? Why wasn’t it ready? I explained I had called before coming in and was told on the phone by a service Dept guy it would be a «quick driveway job». The service guy disappeared into the area where they work on cars and returned five minutes later explaining my car had just been moved into a service bay and would be ready «soon». It was another half an hour more before it was ready for a total of well over an hour for what was promised to be a «quick driveway job». The service guy said, «see you next time», as I was leaving. I muttered under my breath, «don’t hold your breath». The Olathe Kia dealer is only 3 tenths of a mile farther from our house than Shawnee Mission Kia, so I’ll be driving to Olathe for my future Kia service needs.

The front desk person comes across very condescending. Never have an estimate on how long the diagnostic would take. Had to pick up the car and will have to take it back again. Not looking forward to this next visit. I will not recommend anyone else buy a Kia due to the attitude of this person.

they bent over to get me in a car. then nothing. for starters I was told the finance company was requiring an extended warranty purchase by 3 people during the purchase process, found out this was bull so I cancelled it after the sale. the sticker on the window said it had cruise and keyless entry, no cruise control on car and no remote when I picked it up. I had to buy a remote from Chevy and have it programmed. then my 30 day tag expired and I hadnt received my title, so now I cant even drive the car. the title came today while I am at work, and its a Florida title so I have to get it inspected by the Highway Patrol. One problem, my 30 day tag is expired so I cant drive it to be inspected.

So called in about a vehicle they supposedly had on their lot. Salesman said he went and checked out the vehicle assured me it would be there. Come to find out they don’t even have the car and haven’t possessed it for several days. This dealership like so many more out there is yet another example of poor business ethics and bait and switching. If I were you I wouldn’t purchase from this store.

Pretty slow checking you into Service Area, even with appointment. It may have helped if knew who car was listed under.
Coffee was cold.
The service took much longer than expected but service manager that took care of me was very accommodating, I believe his name was Jimmy.

Excellent service! I purchased a new car last week and couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with. I was very indecisive and came back like 5 times before I made my final choice!!! Frankie, my sales rep, was not only patient but extremely knowledgeable about all the cars I tested! Would defiantly recommend!!!

I came in thinking there was NO way they’d be able to have the car I wanted, and even if they did they wouldn’t be able to match others in the area. I was WRONG! Kenzel was GREAT at helping with financing, trade-​in, test drives, and so much more. I highly suggest this location and Kenzel!

Sleazy trick.
They advertized on their website a car I wanted to buy, when I mentioned the add they told me it wasn’t right (the car was listed as an automatic but in reality it was a manual). They have a disclaimer on the site saying the information might be wrong.
If I could give them less than one star I would.
I ended up going to Bob Sight Kia, a little out of my way but they did a great job. The kicker was they didn’t have exactly what I wanted on the lot so they got it from SM Kia.

Update:
Several attempts to get off their sales call list has failed. Just can’t seem to get my name off the bothersome sales calls list. They called AGAIN trying to sell me a new car. I’m on their do not call list but the excuse this time was that he must have had the wrong call list.

2013, base-​model Rio. No bells, no whistles, I asked for a «point A-​to-​point B» car, and I got one, with wonderful treatment from the sales specialist.
Bought my car a year ago and raved about the experience. Our sales person was competent and professional. But everything past intentionally walking in to buy a car, is awful.
This dealership thrives on the semantics and technicalities that keep them in business. A few months into owning it, I took my car in for the «free» oil change and, of course, it wasn’t free. Just the «service» was. Materials were a different matter and I still paid $ 50 — twice as much as it would have cost if I had just done it myself, like I normally do.
Recently, after owning my car a year, the dealer called to tell me about a refinancing offer. The salesperson dodged every direct question I had because while I understand terms like «negative equity», he never once used any type of language that would have signaled to me that he was full of it.
The salesperson told me that the «refinance» was the only way to refinance the current loan, not specifying that this was just the only way to «refinance» through the dealer. I initially took him at his word and asked a few more questions, which I didn’t get truthful or direct answers to. He rushed me through the credit application and then disappeared for two hours.
I took the time to «phone a friend» and he explained that since the dealer wasn’t a financial institution, the only reason they can call it a refinance is because I bought a car from them originally and detailed the actual options for refinancing my loan. Not only that, but the negative equity from the Rio (which would basically be the entire principle since my interest rate is so high), would be tacked on to the Forte that he was trying to peddle. Basic addition tells me that the $ 15k from the Rio and the $ 25k from the Forte, equals a $ 40k+ Forte, with only the tiniest improvement to my interest rate.
When I broke down what was happening in brass tax to my girlfriend, who was at work, she said she wasn’t interested in buying a new car, only refinancing. I listened to his voicemail to her later and he not once said he was trying to sell us a new car, only refinance the current loan. Anyway, he reiterated to me that «this is the only way [he] can get the bank to refinance» and started texting my girlfriend with passive aggressive texts to vent his frustration and trying to push her to reconsider.
I will never set foot in this place again.

I have had several instances of contact with the service department since purchasing my Kia from another dealer. Although my experience started out rocky, I do now feel that taking your car to a dealership to get any and all maintenance and repairs complete is essential for the car as well as your own peace of mind.
Call ahead, make an appointment, get there on time, and these guys get you right in and do it to it. They check everything you could imagine. I’m not just talking about fluid levels and tire pressure; I am talking about recalls, upgrades, and upcoming scheduled maintenance too.
Is it more expensive at the dealership? It depends. I find that an oil change and tire rotation is much cheaper at some of the local corporate tire and service shops nearby. On the other hand, I find that the dealership is very competitive on tires. The benefit here is that they keep a complete history of everything they do to your car, you’re always getting factory parts, and everything is under warranty.
These guys have taken very good care of my vehicle. It’s not quite a year old and I already have 22k miles on it. I’ve had one recall taken care of as well as a free upgrade I wouldn’t have known about if I didn’t come here for service. They also did a great full detail of my car. It was a nice touch.
I do recommend using the service department at Shawnee Mission Kia.

I made an appointment with Shawnee Mission Kia’s Service department to fix a Cylinder 5 Misfire in my ’05 Sorento. On the way to the apointment, we were having issues accelerating in the car (very scary). We pulled over and called Kia to send a tow. Had to wait double the amount of time they told us because their tow operator noticed his tow tags had expired and had to go switch out his truck.
Finally got the car in and they told us it would be about $ 400 total including the tow. When they gave me the receipt and a multipoint inspection I noticed that I had been given an oil change ($ 37) that I had never asked for and had to pay for. I was annoyed by that but I let it go seeing as how the total repair price was below what I had expected.
The next day I happened to be near their shop when the check engine light came back on and I experienced the SAME acceleration issues. I was able to drop the car off at their shop and then got a call telling me that something different was now causing the same issue that would be $ 1400 to fix. Oh, and I had an exhaust leak that would be $ 700 to fix.
On the «multipoint inspection» list they had just marked off my exhaust as «green/​good condition» the day before. So obviously they do NOT really do an inspection or anything of the sort. I declined the $ 2100 in repairs seeing as how I just had spent $ 400 and they told me they had «fixed» it and it was «running like a champ».
Throughout this whole process they tried to sell me a new car TWICE. And also took absolutely no blame for not noticing the exhaust leak or truly figuring out the acceleration issue the day before. He told me «Well is was fine when we test drove it and fine when you drove home right?». So nice to know they only guarantee their repairs for your 10 minute drive home (this is the second time I have taken my car there and had to bring it back within two days of repair).
I mentioned the oil change issue and his excuse was «they only did that because I was originally bringing my car in for an oil change before it got towed» Absolutely not, I was bringing it in to get the misfire taken care of! They did refund that for me.
We will never be bringing our car here again and will not be buying another Kia because of these experiences.

Bought a car here back in September. The salesman was super nice and very helpful. He really worked with me, and helped me get into the car I wanted. His name was Dennis Hitt. If you are looking for a car he is the one to help you. Just know that if you live in Missouri and you get the 60 day tags from KS, the state of MO will charge you a $ 25 late fee because it’s still 30 days in MO

I’d give 0 stars if I could. I came in because the check engine light on my 11′ Kia Forte came on. I was helped by Mike in the service area. Things were alright til he came to tell me the quote price. $ 1700 for a car that’s barely 3 years old? I had a few things done that day. While I was waiting I was approached by a salesman, Gjoni. He was telling me about a ‘new financing company’ that they’re working with, and they’re helping customers refinance their vehicle for a lower percentage. I thought… ok I’m at a 3.9%, let’s see if I could go lower. Call me a sucker, but I thought this was a simple refinance. Next thing I know, Gjoni’s showing me brand new cars and having me take a test drive. In the back of my mind I wanted to see the numbers because hey, this could benefit me!
In the middle of our conversation, he sneaks in that he spoke with Mike, the mechanic working on my car and the costs are higher than I was told. Mike approached my desk, and told me that the repairs were now going to be $ 2900. Unbelievable. At the point I felt my intelligence was insulted, because it was apparent to anyone what they were trying to pull off.
Basically, Gjoni kept asking me why there wasn’t any reason that I wouldn’t buy the car today. I kept telling him numbers numbers numbers. I wasn’t terrible impressed by the new fortes, and I already had a bad taste in my mouth from the interaction. They finally ran numbers… only to come back with a loan at 4.8% for 72 months. I immediately got up and said no, much to Gjoni’s surprise. I don’t know how many people they sucker in with this kind of business dealing, but I for one am not going to refinance my vehicle for a higher percentage for a longer term at the prospect of something new and shiny. I tried calling a manager yesterday to complain, but of course never heard anything bad. The only other thing I can think of is to give them a bad rep online. I will never be dealing with them again.
