Solid 4⁄5. Like the other reviewer, I want to hit the fifth star but it’s reserved for places that just truly, completely, utterly blow me away. Don’t let the lack of fifth star fool you though. The 18th Street Diner is great. The veggies on my burger were super crisp and fresh, the burger and fries were cooked just right, and everything tasted pretty darn good. And the best part of it all was that my total bill was $ 5 plus tax for a burger, fries, and a drink!

Sticking to the premise that a review should be based on the ability of the establishment to deliver what you expect walking in the door, the 18th Street Café delivered exactly what my guests and I were looking for from a locally owned«Mom and Pop» diner and more. The food was decent diner food at an incredibly low price. The staff was personable and honestly quite entertaining. While not five star quality food by any means, it was pretty good and at the price was a great bargain on a day my guests and I were just looking for a quick lunch and a place to sit and talk. We will start off with the service which was incredible. The ladies who were working had that small town charm you look for in a place like this. You know, sweet with a little salt and grit. LOVE people like this, Unpretentious, friendly and witty. They provided great service with a smile, a joke or two and it seemed everyone there was involved in the discussion. Truly made you feel right at home. The burgers were cooked perfectly and the buns were fresh. The veggies on the burgers were crisp and fresh, the crinkle fries(which I am not a fan of) were correctly cooked(not soggy as they can get when you try to fry them). They came with plenty of fries, but the lady serving us and working the counter thought we needed more and brought two more plates piled high with fries. Great touch, we shared them amongst our group like appetizers at a meeting. The Chicken fried steak and Chicken Fried Pork were nothing to write home about, but the gravy was good and there was enough of it to dip my fries in. The green beans were also nothing special, just the canned variety. These two plates are the only reason I cannot give them five stars. They weren’t bad, and we cleaned the plate, but still not five star worthy. I REALLY wanted to press the five star button, but I have to stick to my grading standards. However the great price(you cannot get a combo at Hardee’s for this price), clean facility and the personable service make this a solid four star restaurant that I will be more than happy to return to for lunch any time. When you are just looking for a «Mom and Pop» style small town diner, with unassuming food at a great price with charming service, this place(at least on my visit) lived up to and surpassed all of my expectations when I walked in the door. Great Job, See you again Soon !
