Great Sothern comfort food in a wonderful old house.

This place is awesome! While visiting Owensboro we wanted a nice place to treat family for dinner. The Miller House did not disappoint. The atmosphere is perfect. The service was impeccable. The incredibly friendly staff new their menu. I had never enjoyed bourbon before, but I tried an Old Fashion with Larceny bourbon. It was so good I had another! Everyone ordered different dishes and it was all so wonderful. I highly recommend The Miller House. After reading other reviews I had to amend mine. I had the bourbon marinated New York Strip, it was cooked perfectly(medium rare) and I’ve never had a Strip Steak that tender. The sides were terrific too.

Wow. First trip to Owensboro(for conference) locals and colleague who went evening before raved about/recommended it. Setting, service and food all came together for amazing evening. Work has me traveling the country and enjoying top/best/great restaurants in major cities but the Miller House stands out as a favorite!

Went here the other night and had a great dinner. Sweet potato biscuits were very good. We had the filet mignon with bourbon and bacon sauce… mmm. Everything we ordered was very good: kids chicken tenders with tasty fries, wine, salads and the bread pudding with coffee finished it off. So full…

My experience YMMV: Very underwhelming cocktails. Too much simple syrup in the Old Fashioned. Also, no luxardo cherries; a must-have if you consider yourself a true bourbon bar. Service was OK; bartender was playing on his phone while we waited to place a drink order. Bourbon pours are very small. No beers on tap. A good place for a straight bourbon and a steak I suppose.

My favorite place in town. Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. Try and sit in Carol’s section if you go – she is the best. They also serve a great brunch on Sunday.

Just had dinner here and we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff was friendly and attentive, the drinks superb and the food delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in Owensboro and looking for a place with good atmosphere and good food.

I have to tell you that I am surprised to be giving this place 3 stars. When I read the reviews and planned on taking my wife here for our anniversary I thought I would be at one of those rare 5 star places. Instead I found my wife an I having to agree to come back once more because what we experienced could not be what others have. The food was not good. but everyone has an off night. We will be back. If you are looking for this place be ready to find an older home with very small singage. It is a beautiful place and really like someone house. Finding it is complicated by the one way street. The waitress and hostess were very good to us. We were seated in the upstairs dining room in a beautiful old home. It was a bit like some one took a historic registry home and removed the furniture to add tables for diners. Pretty and well appointed. We ordered and the food was very late, but the management came by and offered us free desert before we really even noticed. Again very hospitable. My wife ordered a steak well done and what she got was red(not pink) in places. In fairness, the parts she was able to eat were good. I ordered a pepper corn encrusted NY Strip(medium rare) with mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms. This came with a Caesar salad. The salad was good. The steak however was way over cooked and a very poor example of a NY Strip. It was chewy and flavorless. the pepper corns did not help. Not well executed. The mushrooms where way overpowered by balsamic vinegar. Just so odd. On an up note the mashed potatoes were good. Both of our deserts were very good. Chocolate cake and Bread pudding(to go). We will be back. Good people with an off night we suspect.

Had a horrible meal and experience – bland food, terrible service, and it took 3 hours to finally get our check. Will not go back.

We’ve eaten here three times I think. Just the other night we had Nick as our server. He’s new. Very attentive and genuinely concerned about our well being. Nick provided six star service(if there’s such a rating). And he got tipped accordingly. I’ll be honest, each time I’ve been I just haven’t picked out the entrée that’s for me. Let me be clear that there’s nothing«wrong» with the entrees I’ve selected, they’ve just not been«for me». I’m gong to keep trying till I find«my favorite». My wife and guests loved their entrees. The sides though have been five star though. Atmosphere very classy, especially if you like old houses. Staff friendly, professional. Very clean. Make reservations.

The Miller House is a place everyone should try at least once in Owensboro. I only go during Lunch so I can’t speak for the dinner service but Guy(the usual bartender/waiter) at lunch is great. He knows his stuff when it comes to both the food and booze. He is also very quick and always friendly. Their hamburgers are some of the best in town and cooked perfectly how I order them(medium rare). I usually am more adventurous in my food selections but I haven’t had the will to deviate from the burger since I’ve been working downtown.

I have heard amazing things about this restaurant, so my expectations were high. It was good, the service was good, the atmosphere was fine. But it didn’t blow me away. Lesson: moderate expectations.

Where to start? There was a shard of broken glass stuck to the plate that the waitress placed on our table. Service was RIDICULOUSLYSLOW. We waited nearly an hour for our entrees from the time we ordered. When the food finally did arrive, the steak I ordered cooked medium was blood rare, and loaded with fat. Disgusting. Portions were small considering the price. Our waitress was totally oblivious as to how long we had been waiting for our food, and never bothered to check in and see what was happening in the kitchen. AVOID. We won’t be back. Ever.

Amazing food! I love that they change up their menu with the seasons and what they can get fresh. The roasted red pepper cheesy grits were BYFAR the best grits I have ever had. The banana bread pudding was spectacular as well. The service was great too. Our waitress was very helpful, personable, and funny! She made the whole experience over the top. The atmosphere was very laid back but elegant. We will definitely make return visits!

This place has potential. It really does… Nice venue in such a bad town for dining. The basement bourbon selection is among the best I’ve seen in the U.S. BUT, the food is plain terrible. The steak is terrible. It’s dry and of poor quality as I have tried it twice. Burger is good and I give it a 7.5÷10. The shrimp n grits is appalling and wine selection is poor. I would bet Applebee’s would be a step up, but I would never eat there. Advice: scale the menu down. Have 4 – 5 featured dishes that are done well and rotate frequently. Establish a relationship with local produce and market it. When I’m back in my hometown, I want a place to take friends and not be worried about the food and drink. But until the food is revamped, it looks like the bourbon will be the only thing we’ll have.

100% delicious. My wife and I dined in the basement section where casually dressed patrons go.(Recommended here on Unilocal). We were not disappointed in service or food. My wife had the filet that could be cut with a fork. She loved the gratin potatoes as well. I had the ribeye with Bleu cheese risotto and asparagus. All nicely done.

Cute little basement bar/restaurant. However, Service sucks! Bad experience on 2 occasions. 1. I don’t eat red meat, pork, or chicken and mentioned that to the waitress before ordering. I ordered the salmon plate and was very disappointed to see bits of bacon and fat smothered all over my salmon and asparagus. When I brought it up to the waitress attention she just said«oh that’s how we make it» I wasn’t offered a replacement. I don’t understand why she neglected to tell me that there would be bacon all over my entrée. Anyway I can’t really review on the salmon as I didn’t eat my food and was still charged for it. 2. The second time I came here it was with a larger group. We asked for recommendations from the waitress and she hadn’t tried anything on the menu. Someone in our group asked about the seafood dishes and the waitress said that she would personally never eat seafood in KY bc she was from FL??? Due to my previous experience here I chose the quiche — which was mediocre(nothing special). I am from out of town and will definitely not be coming here again when I visit Owensboro. The peach cobbler was delicious though.

I’ve ate the Miller House about ten different times since they opened back in 2008⁄09. The first 3 times, were bad. So bad that they gave us gift cards to come back & try again. Having moved away to Nashville, I don’t eat here that much anymore. When I’m back in town visiting friends, we sometimes end up here. I love the concept & the look of the restored home. It’s a beautiful restaurant. I enjoy the basement the most, where the bar is located. The exposed brick and concrete floors give a nice vibe. I think the upstairs dining area is a little too stuffy for me. It’s a kind of place that I’d expect you to take a prom date. Speaking of the bar, recently they added a bunch of different bourbons & made a bourbon bar. They’ve got little brochures printed out with all the different types and all the bottles are in glass cases along the walls. The bar sits about 8 people & there’s seating at tables for about 30. The have a long list of house concoctions, some good & others not so much. The drink prices aren’t a bargain by any means, but the drinks are strong. Speaking of drinks, the last time we drank down in the bar, two of our friends got charged for doubles on their drinks when they hadn’t asked for doubles. When they talked to one of the servers(a 35ish year old woman with short, dark hair) about it, she said«were they doubles?» They hadn’t noticed the drinks being any stronger than before. When pressed about the issue, the server again just said that they probably made you doubles. No sorry or anything. Overall a great atmosphere with okay food that could be priced a little lower & staff that could be a little friendlier.

I took the fella back to The Big O for a family weekend, and we ventured to The Miller House after being pretty excited that a non-chain restaurant had lasted this long! Thankfully, my dad made reservations downstairs in bar — after entering through the front door, I could tell that we were going to be far too loud for the quieter, more refined upstairs dining room. The hostess had a little snootiness about her, as did some of the waitresses, but I decided to overlook it. We headed down to the basement bar as instructed, but no one down there really knew who was in charge or where to seat us. After a few questions of a couple of snooty waitresses, we finally got seated. The basement bar is so cool! Lots of exposed brick and dark enough to be swanky but not dark enough to need a lantern. We sat at a table, but the bar itself looked like a great place to grab a drink, especially with the cases of bourbon. We ordered drinks, and the fella was a kid in a candy store with all the bourbon. He’s a connoisseur and was a little skeptical of The Miller House’s boasts of rare bourbon, but he wasn’t disappointed. I stuck with wine, and my dad got a… margarita. LOL For dinner, my dad and I got the bone-in pork chop with Yukon gold potatoes and broccoli($ 18.99). The meat was good but just a little dry in the center, and the broccoli was a little garlic-y and delicious. The fella got the grilled salmon with lentils and asparagus($ 18.99). He said he could’ve done without the lentils, but the salmon and asparagus were awesome. All entrees came with a salad and sweet potato biscuits. Yum! Our waiter started out pretty snooty but loosened up after awhile. It’s a little pricey by Owensboro standards, but the food and atmosphere are worth the price. We were fortunate to get a parking spot in the business parking lot next door, but you may have to drive around a couple of times to find a place. I can handle tricky parking and snooty waiters to get delicious food, drinks and ambiance!
