Who knew that this treasure was right in our backyard? It is the last serpentine bedrock ecosystem in North America and we are lucky to have it in Maryland. This area once stretched from Pennsylvania to DC but since there are no more Native American tribes to help with slash and burn we are down to 2000 acres. There are many trails to choose from an most are loops which always make me happy because it means no back tracking! Since this isn’t a state park and is only a natural environment area it is not open everyday so check before going! Also note that on some of the land you can hunt during hunting season so wear bright colors!!! Also beware that you have to cross under power lines on some of the trails and beware that the trails get quite wet and slippery inclement weather so wear your hiking boots and bring your walking stick!
