I would give two stars, but my companions insisted on three. In years past Christmas Tree Lane was a light extravaganza with people flooding in to see the lights. The past few years, not so much. I went three times this year. Many of the houses are dark, and some don’t even have lights. It’s no fun walking past a darkened house. Most of the ones that are still lighted look nice, but it’s no longer worth the trip. The Christmas magic is gone. There are lights in nearby cities that far outshine Oxnard.

Been coming here for years and I enjoy all the great xmas decorations but it seems like each year less houses participate… For the ones that did participate, they were spectacular! It didn’t take us more than 20 minutes to check out everything and the traffic was pretty nonexistent this year.

As a kid it was a yearly argument to get My Dad & Uncle to take my Cousins & I to the now defunct Candy Cane Lane in Ventura… Btw the kids usually won outu.(Read on for a clue as to what our Dads were trying to avoid .) It’s nice to see that Oxnard residents have created their own Candy Cane lane, they truly put their heart and soul into creating a fun and engaging Christmas wonderland, from your traditional to the inventive, you will be overwhelmed with lights & sounds as some of the displays are interactive. Traffic of course is going to be jammed, so patience is key. My suggestion would be to either find parking somewhere close by and walk the Lane so you are able to have a more personal experience, or drive slow, roll down your windows and take in the creative displays and worry about getting out of traffic later. Because frankly everyone else is probably thinking just like you. This is a great event to take visiting relatives during the Christmas season, children & grandchildren and quite frankly yourself.

PUT Oxnard on the map, y’all! Our Christmas Tree Lane ROCKS!!! Located close to downtown Oxnard, in the Henry T. Oxnard Historic District, along F & G Streets, north of Fifth Street, you’re in for a treat if you make your way here! Lavish decorations fill the front yards of many of the houses here. It may appear like an ordinary, mild mannered neighborhood during the day, but as the moon glow begins, it turns into something awesome ’round here!!! The best time to come is the week leading up to Christmas Eve. That’s when some of the houses even have live entertainers gettin’ their croon on. Tons of people, all with a seemingly jolly demeanor, cruise the district with their sneaks or in the comfort of their car. It kinda has the Disneyland aura where everyone is happy and respectful of the people around them. Love that! Sometimes ya gotta be patient with street parking. Port-a-Potties are set up on the corner of 3rd St. & F St. behind Santa Clara Church. Here’s a few family highlights… *144 F St. — Model Train RAILROAD: Fam FAVE! The young squires could stand and watch this ALL night! *205 F St. — Oxnard Original Nativity scene *100 F St. — Mickey Mouse extravaganza *105 F St. — Gingerbread Man Theme *G St. Snow Houses between 3rd&4th St *G St. Circle *228 F St. — The Peanuts Gang Merry Christmas! May you be blessed with a wonderful holiday season ;)

Wow! Who knew that the people of Oxnard had it in them? Each night from now until December 26th, F and G Streets north of 5th St in the Henry T. Oxnard Historic District becomes Christmas Tree Lane. Virtually every house on these two streets from 5th to Palm(or where G ends) is decorated with Christmas lights that range from the classy and tasteful to the grand and glorious to the tacky and Wal-Mart-y. They really go all out, it’s very impressive. You can either drive through slowly or get out and join couples and families walking down the streets checking out the lights. Our favorite house on either street is located just before G Street dead ends into the monastery or convent or whatever that is(does anybody know what that is?). It features some light up reindeer pulling a sleigh, a bunch of multi-color trees, a big light up «FESTIVUS» and the major award lamp from A Christmas Story in the front window(see pictures). You can have your icicle lights. You can have your inflatable carousels and snow globes. You can have your seizure inducing flashing light shows. You can have more nativity scenes than you can shake a stick at. Give me a good old fashioned Seinfeld reference and«the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window», and I’m set. That’s pop-culture holiday spirit that I can get behind. Honorable mention goes to the Peanuts house and the disco ice-skating penguins on F Street.
