Top three breakfast places to visit when I am in Oxnard. A total mom and pop shop type of restaurant with a ton of love in their cuisine. I would always recommend the menudo or the flautas… But either way, this place is a win win!

Let me start out by saying this… If you are looking for real authentic home style Mexican food, this place is the real deal. If you every wanted to know what it was like to grow up eating real Mexican food, eat here… period. This is no five star restaurant. There is no chef that went to the best culinary school. This is not the best of areas the city has to offer. This place is simply straight up authentic Mexican food.

This is a REAL home style Mexican café. I felt like I was in San Felipe in 1972. We had cheese enchiladas, pork and chicken gorditas, taqueria, and a flauta. All with rice and beans. The gorditas were awesome, over stuffed and served like little falafels with one end opened. Best cheese enchiladas I’ve ever had and a completely original take on a flauta. Would have loved a beer! $ 35 cash ! Not sure I would frequent the neighborhood after 8PM though

Food is great. The large pork burrito and beef tacos are excellent. Wife likes the flautas and beef soup. I’ve been going here for more than twenty years. These days I only go there occasionally because of the horrible attitude of the co-owner/husband. If it wasn’t for him, I would eat there every day. It’s too bad because the owner/wife is a sweet person and excellent cook.

This place is fabulous! I was looking for authentic home-cooked Mexican food, and this place delivers. Plus, it’s so inexpensive. Note that they only take cash — but when I realized I only had $ 2 in my wallet and I wanted a $ 4 burrito, the kind lady behind the counter said I could just pay the $ 2 and maybe bring in the other $ 2 another day … Which of course I did. And ordered another one ;) I’ll be back to try the much-touted flautas next time. The tortillas are so tasty and fresh, and even a simple quesadilla and bean burrito were just scrumptious.

The BEST Mexican food in Ventura County by far. Do not miss this place! Reasonable prices and friendly service from the owners. The refried beans and spanish rice are a revelation. A «DONOTMISS» restaurant experience for those who appreciate authentic Mexican food.

Beef tacos and chicken Flautas are my favorite! the sopes, gorditas, and caldos are also good though. I have been enjoying this lil hole in the wall since childhood and so has my mama. Friendly and family run.

Holy wow. The all time, greatest, evahhh mom and pop restaurant i’ve, ever been to, ever. I ran in with only 15 minutes till an appointment down the street and asked for the two tacos special. The husband and wife owner are now grandmom and grandpop owners and they were so very sweet and made me want to come back every day. They chatted with me while she made my tacos and I walked around the restaurant looking at her children’s wedding photos. I was already happy I had randomly come in if only to give my buisness to genuinly nice, deserving people and then double as glad when I saw they sold chocolate bars too! Oh happy day, tacos and chocolate? I couldn’t imagine better! Oh but there was better. So so much better. I am not exagerating at all when I say that besides the indian tacos I’ve had out on the reservation, these may very well have been the greatest tacos tastest in my life. The hot sauce they packed on the side was definitely the tastiest, most perfect, hot sauce I’ve ever had. Boy am I glad I stopped in here. For the first time, I have a favorite mexican restaurant! They really should have more fame, be on the food network or reviewed in a top magazine. They deserved awards for taste and overall customer happiness. So anyway, this place is redonkulously worthy of my 5 stars and i’ma be a regular every week you’ll see.

The flautas are frackin’ amazing. My mom would go here at least once a month when I was a kid, she would never order me one. At most I would get a bite or two. When I was 14, she finally let me order one of my own. I love it.

My favorite! I grew up coming to La Paloma. I recommend the sopes, a pork rice beans and cheese burrito. The flautas are AMAZING!

I think this place has been in business for about 30 years, that should say enough. Been there several times and have had about everything on the menu except Menudo(but I wouldn’t touch it anywhere.) The food is fantastic! My favorite by far is their Flautas, deep fried stuffed with a shredded beef mixture, topped with sour cream, lettuce, cheese & tomatoes. Their burritos are simple: meat, beans & rice, but who needs all those extra toppings? They use a local bakery’s tortillas: La Central, which are unique in their own. This is a small local place, very casual and yes the owners seem to be set in there ways but I go in for the food. It’s no Taco Bell or like every other corner taqueria, definatley unique!

I heard that the chef here was a «Burrito Nazi» like the«Soup Nazi» on Seinfeld. Apparently, you can’t get it «your way». I was highly skeptical because the guy who told me is picky and because I’ve been to a lot of little loncherias and I’ve always been able to order«my way» although«my way» is usually their way which is to say that I want a normal burrito with cilantro and onions. Well… the guy was right. I wanted Lengua or Cabeza or at least Carne Asada, but the lady behind the countered repeated«Beef, Pork or Chicken» thrice. So I went with a beef burrito. It was a knife and fork dry burrito with a dry flour tortilla that wasn’t made there and it was wrapped the way a white ten year-old would wrap a burrito. The ends weren’t tucked in. The sauce seemed tex-mex. It was red and tasted like chili powder. There were no chips. However, the sopes look good so I think I’ll come back some time.
