Mr Smog – STAR Smog Check and Auto Registration

Owner is a great guy. He had me in and out of there in no time and even registered the vehicle to the DMV for a reasonable price. Thought the whole smog check thing was going to be a headache but it was honestly very simple.

The owner is super nice! You can also renew your registration there! Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a trustworthy guy for a smog check

Danny, the first time i talked to you on the phone,
i told you, i saw your reviews on Unilocal and i said im coming over.
When i got there, you explained to me that it would be 49.95 plus 15
for the STAR certified and you said smog certificate is included.
I was the one who said 75 which was my mistake of adding 49.95 plus 15.
When you where done, i said it was 65 but you said 75 (because i said so?)
then you said the 10 was for the certificate, you already told me
that the 49.95 will include the certificate. And for the registration,
you never mentioned to me a fee of 30, you just flat out told me that
it will cost me $ 305, nor have you mentioned that you are charging me a fee
for the correction of the address which i DID NOT ask you to do because
i already updated it online last July. You told me that you will update
to correct the address I already called DMV prior, to update my address
and i even updated it online on DMV for the address correction before i
spoke to them. You never said anything about a fee for the registration
nor the change of address. My plan was to go to DMV on Van Nuys blvd
which is only a mile away. I was off that day and my plan was to smog it
then go to DMV. Since you offered it to me without communicating it to me
about the fees so i decided for you to do it., I know your trying to cover
you behind because you’ve frauded me. Again, let me reiterate to you,
you never said anything regarding the fees on the registration and
change of address but if you did then i have proceded to my plan In regards
to giving you a good review on Unilocal,i would if this didnt happened.
I will file a lawsuit on you because of this fraud charges. I have my
receipts (details) of the smog for $ 61.80(and by the way, the
receipt did not say that the certificate was $ 10) and the registration
receipt for $ 191. There is nothing in those receipts that says you
are charging me with those FEEs you claimed. But of course if it was
included in the receipt (a break down of transaction) then there
would be no problem.

I sent my son here and failed the 1^st smog. They said free retest. So we fixed the car, I had my son bring back the car. He told my son it’s been more than 2 weeks which it has not been. And no where does it say on our paperwork that it needs to be within 2 weeks. He tells my 21year old son the cars not ready but he can run a cycle for $ 40. My card was charged $ 330. No itemized receipt. My registration was $ 180, $ 60 retest, and $ 40 run cycle. How is it $ 330. My husband drove there and asked for a itemized receipt but they said they were closing! Never again! Don’t get ripped off

In and out in less than 10 minutes! Extremely friendly and helpful staff! Prices are reasonable. I would definitely recommend anyone to go here for a quick and accurate smog test! Oh and they also automatically submit paper work to DMV. Not all locations do this. Thanks guys!

I called early morning on Sunday around 9:45am to see if any one would be available to help me out. Spoke with Danny who was able to assist me. Danny advised me to come in the next 15mins and he was able to do my Smog Test within 15 to 20 mins.
I arrived to this place Danny was there waiting for me. He took my car in to do the Smog Test. Within 20 mins I was out. Very nice guy he asked who referred me to him. I answered
Danny gave me a discount. This had to be the cheapest spot from previous places. Thanks Danny keep up the good work.

Service was good, no big complaints, but not outstanding either. Average, polite service you would expect anywhere.

Mr Smog test only on Van Nuys Blvd. in Pacoima is run by a jerk and CROOK named Danny.
Sure, he lures you in with slick ads and special discounts posted on craigslist but then, he pulls the old bait and switch once you come in & believe you’re getting a deal.
I brought in my vehicle for a simple smog test. But, once I start asking questions about the equipment he provides his services with, and the calibration of it, and his membership and affiliation with the State of Calif. Bureau of Automotive repair, he gets real nervous and won’t provide consumers with ANY answers — not even the BAR number associated with his repair/​test station.
THIS IS A HUGE RED FLAG. His unwillingness 2 provide full disclosure is a sign that he has something to hide AND a sure tail sign that he’s either been sued or had fines levied by the state for ripping off consumers and/​or manually TAMPERING with & fixing the test to cause the car to FAIL.
He asks me, «are you with the state?» as if I’m a spy for the bureau… lol. Then, he proceeds to refuse my patronage based on discrimination and the fact that I ask too many questions. AND, to top it off (here’s the bait & switch part) the $ 10 retest fee has a 2 week expiration date hidden in scribbled chicken scratches at the bottom of your receipt so after you fail to realize it’s there, HE FAILS to verbally tell you about it.
After further investigating of this crook, it turns out his test equipment is obsolete and out of date. I AM OUT $ 60.00 WITHOUT RECOURSE because after my car suspiciously failed here, IT PASSED A WEEK LATER AT ANOTHER SMOG TEST STATION without any repairs or adjustments to the car in that week.
This establishment is a joke and is NOT legit. I’m reporting this to the BAR.
A word to the wise: STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!
I hesitated to give this smog test station even ONE star. I wanted to give zero stars.

I went to this place hoping for great customer service seeing all the 5 star reviews so I thought I would give this place a try. The guy that helped me wasn’t too friendly and not that talkative. Seemed way more concerned about having me post good reviews on here and facebook just to boost his status and offered me a discount each time he mentioned writing a review on Unilocal,posting it on facebook and what not.
I’m sorry, but if you have to beg for good reviews then you’re just not worthy going to.
I rather go to the smog place i’ve always been going to on Plummer and Van Nuys A1 Star Smog. They never ask me to write a review, always gave me a way better deal, and not only that, way more friendlier and straight forward. I’ve always been treated very well at A1 Star Smog 9450 Van Nuys Boulevard, Panorama City, CA 91 402.
That’s just from my personal experience.

Danny is really friendly! He recommended me to places to get better oil change plus he explained the process clearly. Felt a little more secure now that he is doing my smog check. I totally recommend this place !!

Danny is the coolest, nicest person. He is very helpful, and knowledgeable.

Honestly this was the quickest and most efficient smog check. I went in and out in a matter of 15 mins. Definitely recommend this place for anyone who needs a smog check.

Got my smog check done here, very fast and helpful. Danny was very helpful and answered any questions I had. They also offer other services like registration! Ill probably be back so I don’t have to deal with the DMV! Great little place and friendly people.

I went a year ago to get my car smog tested and Danny was the one who helped me out. He was super helpful and nice! He let me sit in an air conditioned room while I waited (it was so hot that day) and gave me an ice cold bottled water for free (much appreciated).
What I loved most about this place is that I can also renew my vehicle registration and get the stickers the same day! You get your smog test and stickers in the same visit without ever having to go to the DMV! Amazing!
I’m going back today to renew again. So excited.
