Go Cycling Maui

Stumbled onto this place and very happy that we did. Everyone at the shop was very friendly and professional. We didn’t bring any cycling kits or gear with us. They outfitted us from head to toe and supplied the bike, drinks, and bars. We decided to take the guided tour. They knew where to go to avoid the rain and where it was less windy. The guide was friendly and knowledgable. We could ride as fast or as slow as we wanted and we never felt any pressure to slow down or pick up the pace. There was a support truck with us so we could fill our water bottles as needed. We stopped often to take pictures of the breathtaking views. Will definitely go back.

One of my goals for my trip to Maui was cycling up Haleakala. I showed up at this shop with my friend at around 8am, and we were immediately taken care of. They have great bikes (and a range in terms of quality), they fit you well, and they make sure you have everything you need for a happy and successful ride. In our case we forgot to bring long sleeve shirts for the 6k+ elevation, and they even loaned us warm gear. In addition to scoring high on quality, integrity and kindness, these guys are all super professional.
We came unprepared, so I would recommend the following:
— Register for a bike online before showing up
— Bring the right gear (if you are going up high it will get cold)
— If you are a serious rider bring your own shoes and pedals

This is a great shop with amazing service if you want to go on a supported ride while you’re on vacation. However, make sure to speak with Ed or Donny, the shop’s owner. After researching bicycle outfitters extensively before my trip, Maui Cyclery seemed like the perfect place to hit up. They can set up any ride you want to do on the island. I spoke with Ed the day before my trip and spoke with him at length about what I wanted to do and when. He told me to call back the next day if I decided I wanted to go ahead and set it up. so I called back the next day. But Ed wasn’t in the shop. The person who helped me apparently didn’t really know how to organize the bike tours. He took down my info and put me on the tour schedule for the day I requested. I then asked him if I needed to discuss which ride I wanted to do. He told me no and to just show up at the shop at 8:00 on the day I scheduled the tour. So I did that. When I got to the shop, only Donny was there. No one had gotten the message that I had scheduled a tour for that day. So Donny called Ed and asked him to come by and take me out. I went to a coffee shop nearby to wait for Ed. When Ed got there, he did a great job of fitting me on a bike and getting me all the gear and nutrition that I needed. But we didn’t really have a ride plan. I think they have different ride leaders who go out on different rides. I had wanted to do the West Maui Loop, but that didn’t seem to be an option. We ended up doing a ride that wasn’t the most interesting and was below my skill level. I appreciate Ed and Donny being gracious and making the most of a situation that wasn’t optimal. And I would go back and rent from them if I go back to Maui. However, I only had two full days on Maui, and the slip up with the guy who answered my call kind of blew it for me.

The best. These guys are cyclists and know all the routes. Their rental road bikes are in well maintained condition with nice touches like Continental Gatorskin tires, full patch kits w/​CO2 kits, etc. I emailed Donny ahead of time and he immediately replied with lots of ride and route advice. I highly recommend them.

An amazing experience! My wife and I rode with Donnie on the Kula Highway on the slopes of Mt. Haleakala on Tuesday, June 12^th. From beginning to end, we were treated professionally, courteously, and warmly. When I was booking the ride with Donnie Arnoult, the owner, on the phone, he could not have been more helpful. My wife and I are enthusiastic, but definitely not world-​class cyclists, yet our experience was! The fitting of our bikes, the food and water provided for the ride, the knowledge of the area we were riding in, was all first-​class. Not an easy ride, but it was obvious he could evaluate our abilities and planned the course accordingly. It was simply the highlight of out second honeymoon to Maui!
A big thank you to Rob who drove the SAG wagon and was a wealth of knowledge on our ride back to the shop in Paia. Rob has lived there 27 years and it is easy to understand why! Also, thank you to Mike Adrian, who happened to be riding the same route as us and was a huge encouragement in a very diificult four mile uphill stretch— Mike you were the angel that kept us going! Mike had been in Austin recently to photograph a wedding (
). Since Austin is my hometown (and I was wearing my Longhorns cycling jersey) Mike was a wonderful riding companion on the hardest four miles I’ve ever ridden. Last, but not least, our new friend Patrick who we rode with and shared a couple of wonderful meals with, you were awesome! Patrick rode several days in a row with Go Cycling Maui, including the ride to the crater on Mt. Haleakala— a 36 mile, 10,000 ft climb!!! Way to go, brother!
Sandie and I are already making plans for our next visit to Maui — - especially the multiple rides we plan to make with Donnie and Go Cycling Maui!

This shop exceeded all of my expectations. I debated back and forth between simply renting a bike or doing a tour. I’m extremely happy that I chose the tour. I arrived at the shop at 8 and brought my pedals, shoes, bibs, jersey and of course my bike GPS to record the route. They pulled out a bike and got me setup in no time. I was able to borrow a helmet, sunglasses, gloves, water bottles and they also let me grab food from their rack of nutrition. I think this is all included with the tour. Lucky for me the 2 other people scheduled to go on the tour the same day flaked and my ride was just me and Donnie (the shop owner you see talked about in other reviews).
The tour was great. Donnie used his extensive cycling experience on the island to take us on a loop where we were sheltered from the otherwise abusive Maui winds. We did ~3 hours of riding with ~3,900′ of climb and I got to experience backroads and climbs that I would never have found on my own had I simply rented a bike. Motoring along Donnie took his racing endurance and put it away to ride at my pace. Well into the climbs when I was tiring he pulled into a little café and we had awesome muffins and coffee. The ride was topped off with a long, high speed descent with gorgeous views.
Can’t recommend this shop enough. These guys take care of tourists the way most local bike shops only take care of their regulars. If I had more time on the island I would have done a second tour.

This place is the best, nobody on the island is even close. Donnie and his staff are the best. They have great rental equipment. Prefer a triple or a compact? No problem, they have both. Forgot your saddle or something? Not a problem here. Customer service is obviously a very high priority here, knowledgeable, friendly and extremely helpful. They will take very good are of you.
Even if you are staying in Ka’anapali or Kapalua, it is worth the drive to Paia. Do not waste your time and spend more money for the convenience of the Lahaina bike shop. Maui Cyclery is the best

We had a great experience with Go Cycling. I came to Maui to (amongst other things) ride up Haleakala. Arriving lat on a Sunday, I was assembling my bike early Monday morning and the handlebar clamp on my stem fractured. Disaster!
Go Cycling was the only shop with an early open time (8 AM), and they were convenitently located in Oaia, at the base of Baldwin Ave (the beginning of the route to the Sun. Not surprisingly, they did no have the replacement part, but they offered to either sell me a new stem, or use a used stem for the duration of my stay, gratis. I gratefully took them up on their offer, and I was on the road by 9:30. They were helpful and gracious, and a lifesaver. We also rented another bike for a second person, and they set it up with no notice, and their price was very reasonable, for an island shop.

Delightful! What a great experience it was to cycle the Hana Road with Go Cycling Maui! These people make the whole thing easy, non-​intimidating, and lots of fun. They’re extremely helpful but don’t let their egos or experience get in the way of creating a nice tight group and an uncomplicated ride. Aside from beautiful scenery and a great group, I learned a lot and got some helpful tips. A bit pricey but definitely worthi it. Highly recommended and I will do it again each time I’m back on Maui.

When you book a bike tour with Go Cycling Maui, you get to be a professional cyclist for a day.
This tour company outfits all riders with high-​end bicycles by Lite Speed (I priced out the bike I rode at $ 3,500), clipless shoes, helmet, gloves, bike clothes. and whatever else your forgetful self didn’t think to bring with you on your Maui trip (however they recommend you bring your own pedals, shoes, etc). A support vehicle follows the pack and is there to top off your bottle with water/​electrolytes, provide repairs if needed, offer cheery banter, and cart your sorry lump home if you discover mid way that you just aren’t up to the challenge.
The best part of the tour is Donnie Arnoult, a former pro rider from the mainland who leads the pack. As well as giving useful riding tips, Donnie is a great guide who checks on everyone regularly and never fails to point out sights to be seen.
Maui is an absolutely spectacular place for a bike ride. The views are stunning. I highly recommend it!
