San Benito RV & Camping Resort

I really like this place, and wish I could rate it higher. It’s easy to tell walking or driving through the campground that at one time this place was a real gem. There is a family pool and family multi purpose room, an adult pool and adult multi purpose room, a game room, library, horse shoes, playground, nature trail, mini golf, ping pong, small restaurant open periodically, etc. The place is huge so even though there are nearly 600 sites, you really don’t feel crowded.
I do enjoy coming here, you do feel as though your getting away from it all. Even with all the amenities because of its size it still feels like camping. The staff has always been friendly, and helpful.
The problem I have is the lack of maintenance, I have stayed here at times where the grass and weeds in the sites are nearly knee high. Even saw a couple of regulars break out weed eaters and give their site a quick trimming themselves. Additionally there are a lot of sites marked by big red dots on the power box designating them as sites where the power doesn’t work. The power issue really needs to be addressed, while I understand it will be an expensive endeavor, I see this place declining further if it’s not taken care of. The last time I was here it took nearly 30 minutes of driving through the campground to find two sites together (as we were camping with friends) that had power.

I just left this park and it was a good experience! Full hook ups! The rainy weather has turned the park to a lush paradise! I enjoy the outdoors and riding my bike and it’s the perfect place for both. There’s a great little walking trail that I hope they upkeep a little better. It has the places to stop and do an exercise if you like. Good bird watching too! The bridge was washed away on the last part of the trail and left in disrepair. Which is too bad because that walk is amazing. Really beautiful now with all the different trees and plants. They have a little store that is great! A lot more items than you would expect and Trish will actually stock things you would like, if you let her know. The even carry wine with their label. A little plus if you like a glass of good wine at your campfire. The café is good and open on the weekends. You can get a dinner there Friday night and breakfast or lunch Sat. and Sun. They even have veggie burgers! If you want to have a fire, bring a covered fire pit. Very quiet at night and the night sky will take your breath away. Enjoy!

For the 250,00 positive reviews this place has had I have something to let everyone know that this might have been a great place to be before the new management took over but now it is throwing out members that are within 1 year of becoming a lifetime member. If you do not have a brand new camper or if you might be having hard times and need to use these places to house your family… don’t bother with this location. If you buy a membership then you just made a deal with com artists. A friend of mine has been an Elite member for 4 and a half years only 800 dollars away from becoming a lifetime member and they cancelled his membership because his site was dirty. Which just so everyone knows was by no means dirty! The fact that they threw these people out that actually reside there… is grossly unfair and they way they did it was extremely unprofessional. They were giggling at the fact that they were making these innocent people homeless almost made me puke! I would recommend for this organization to tighten up the contract that they have members sign because it is vague and leaves too much space for interpretation which is then just a matter of opinion. and in my opinion you should all be arrested for larceny!

We had a great time at the park. Both Giovanni and Aaron help us out with our electrical after hours. Breakfast was good and was at a worth while price. The park might be rustic looking, but it is camping not a Holiday Inn. The campground even marked the sites that are having electrical issues.

We booked 2 RV sights here this last weekend, Sept 18 – 21, I will tell you that we are completely unhappy with this location and I will NEVER come back here again. First of all when the first RV checked in we were not told about the red dots on the eclectic box, nor was the second RV who checked in 15 minutes after the first. We drove around for 30 minutes hooking up to the box and finding out there was either no power or limited power. Thankfully another camper came over and told us not to hook up to any box with the red dot or we could fry our motorhome. We then proceeded to be nice and tell other campers who were not told as well. After getting settled we headed to the family pool, where we thought it would be heated and it was NOT. Online it says heated pool, this is one of the reasons we went there. There was also garbage at the pool area and a woman smoking (signs are posted that say no smoking). The pool was also very dirty. The next day we proceeded to go check out the pool again and hope that it had been cleaned. We got to the pool at 10:30 and it was not open. The sign says the pool opens at 9am. An hour and a half later and it was not open. So we decided to head to the play ground and let our kids play. After about 15 minutes of them playing, we kept smelling cat poop. My friend and I walked over to the play structure and looked around to find the entire sanded area covered in cat poop. This is unsanitary. There was also trash all over the play ground area and surrounding area. Very dirty. We decided to head back to our sights to let the kids play there. We also were planning on letting the kids enjoy the ice cream social and we were planning breakfast. However the kitchen was also closed due to not being up to code. (We were not told about this either). After all of this, as we were leaving we need to dump the tanks. We got to the dump station and it was overflowing with black water, you could not even find the plug to the drain. We left and had to come back to Santa Cruz to drain our tanks. I cannot believe this place is still open. We are completely dissatisfied with this location and would like our money back. The only reason we came here was because of the heated pool and play structure, and both were filthy. I went to lake of the springs last week and it was nothing like this. It was very nice and relaxing. When i called the campground to complain and ask fro my money back i was told to take the survey ttlistens, com and i would hear from them. well i did that and have not heard anything. I would not recommend going for a family vacation.

Visited friends yesterday who were in a travel trailer. Place unkempt. Power doesn’t work in half the sites. The plus is you won’t have many neighbors. Many sites were red tagged. Health Dept. placed a «boil water order» a few days earlier due to contamination. Sewage covers missing from empty sites that I walked through. Bathroom I used was in need of serious cleaning. Many of the outside lights do not work so don’t arrive with your rig after dark. San Benito County Sheriff drove through the place while we were there if that is comforting. Looks like down and out full-​timers are taking over. A nearby empty site had plastic flowers in the ground. A bit eerie… gravesite like. The staff were friendly and invited us to participate in corned beef and cabbage dinner. We were doing our own BBQ with friends. We won’t be bringing our TT here.

This park is in major need of an overhaul! It is rundown, overgrown and beyond rustic. Many sites have plastic bags over the electrical boxes and many full timers sites are a little scary looking. The man at the front gate was nice and the bobcat we saw was beautiful but other than that I was very disappointed. We recently bought the Southwest region package and if we used this park as a base for buying we would not of. Unfortunately, drought has not helped this tinderbox of a park. The pool looked nice as did the play area! The only grass around is by a few long termers who must of put in sod but other than that everything is dead.

My kids had a wonderful time. The staff was happy and helpful. You have to meet Wesley he is outstanding. There is a snack bar selling burgers, fries etc. There are crafts for a small fee. We enjoyed a movie in the lodge and used the internet by a warm fire. The kids had a great time playing pool, air hockey, tennis, ping pong. The campgrounds does not have cell service but does have pay phones. And we were told we could use the lodge phone if we needed to. You will be about 20 minutes from town but its wonderful. The grounds do need some attention. There are plenty of sites but many have broken electrical hook ups.

Great rustic park. Has miniature golf, horse shoes, pool tables. The swimming pool is clean & well maintained. TV and radio don’t work. Don’t expect ATT cell to work. No reception at all. None. Zilch. Nada. Verizon does work. You can get free wifi at the family lodge which is pretty well centrally located. You can also get wifi at your site, but it’s a little pricey. Park rangers have ok personalities, Maybe they have att cell phones, LOL, other thousand trails park rangers are more personable. Alot of wildlife here so bring your camera. No lights and/​or city lights, so the stars are shinning bright at night.
