Baxter & Beasley

During a recent trip to the Chicago area to visit a friend, I found out too late her condo would not allow dogs. On some of her neighbor’s recommendations I boarded my pug, Brutus, with Baxter & Beasley for the week. Clean facility, excellent care, nice people. Thank you!

We were unexpectedly called out of town and did not have time to find a dog sitter for our Lab-​Chow mix. Baxter & Beasley came highly recommended. We were pleased with the facilities, the staff and the overall treatment given to our dog during her 10 day stay. We’ll be using B&B again in the future.

I am very pleased with the care and attention given to the dogs at this facility. The place was clean inside and out. And the staff was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable about the specific training needs we were interested in. Job well done, and will be returning regularly. These folks are real «dog» people.

After bringing my dog to a local daycare facility I was told after 3 weeks she was no longer welcome. After inquiring more and trying to find out what happened I was told «your dog plays too rough». With twins on the way any day this was a major concern. Without hesitation I brought her up to Mike and his family to get his opinion.
After a couple days and a lot of time spent at Baxter and Beasley it was obvious that indeed she did not know how to play with other dogs. Mike spent the time to not only explain to me what was going on he also gave me some simple suggestions to insure she understands dog manners. Following Mike’s recommendations and direction Fiona has become a different dog who plays awesome with other dogs and has not shown any aggression.
BOTTOMLINE MIKE KNOWS DOGS. I went with a closer facility over Baxter and Beasley which was a huge mistake. Do yourself and your dog a favor, stop by and meet Mike and check out his facility.

As a frequent traveler, I trust Baxter & Beasley and their kind and caring staff each and every time. Between trips, I utilize the daycare services several times a week for my young, energetic dogs. They always go out of their way to ensure any special requests I have are honored and my dogs always look forward to their time there. I enjoy supporting locally owned small businesses, and Baxter & Beasley fits this perfectly. I also like the space that offers both a large indoor as well as outdoor area for the dogs to play in. Whether wanting to romp with others or take a snooze, there is plenty of room. I have trusted them with the care of my 3 dogs for 2 years and I will continue to do so.

Mike and his family run a fantastic business. I bring my dog 4 days a week for daycare; I also use their boarding and grooming services. My pup LOVES them — he never wants to leave when I pick him up. They are kind, attentive and define outstanding customer service.

We have repeatedly taken our dog to Baxter and Beasley since they first opened. I have not seen one questionable thing out of this business. There has been at least one review about an incident from last summer, and that review is reporting very few actual facts. This is a fine doggie daycare, and as a matter of fact we have two upcoming bookings for boarding over the next few months. I encourage you to give this special place a try. You will be pleased.

We boarded our dog with Baxter & Beasley while my wife & I along with our 3 kids went on vacation. Baxter & Beasley lost our dog that week. Their job was to keep him safe & secure, and they lost him. They lied about what happened, including telling us & The Daily Herald he escaped by climbing an 8′ fence, only to retract that in conversations with the Palatine Police. They also told us they saw it happen, but then told The Daily Herald they didn’t see it happen. In our efforts to find him, they took down hundreds of dollars worth of signs we put up all over town (which we have on video). We’ve had a countless number of amazing volunteers assisting us in the search for him. Baxter & Beasley called the actual workplaces of a select few of those volunteers to complain about them. Our vacation was ruined, our summer ruined, our fall & winter ruined, and our wallet emptied. Baxter & Beasley lost our family member that day, putting him in grave danger, then chose to focus on thwarting our efforts to find him while villainizing us & our volunteers. He has not been found.

I wanted to write an updated review on my FAVORITE doggy daycare ever! As you can see I am still a satisfied customer and will continue to tell everyone about this wonderful family owned business! I bring my 2 dogs here for grooming, daycare & boarding. I also receive training from Mike. Who is hands down the original «Dog Whisperer» and even «People Whisperer».
I have recently began a new relationship… and was soooooo nervous about My boyfriend meeting my one very protective pootch! Mike talked me through the whole thing, was very patient and with 1 lesson… and some self confidence. .my bf & pup are now buddies! In fact, he has taken on the Beta role and both my dogs respect him! I couldn’t have done it with the assistance of Baxter & Beasley!
I also want to extend a HUGE Thank You to all the staff. They are so great with the dogs. It was cute. One of the employees was off duties and was there to pick up a neighbor’s dog. My Layla saw him and jumped up and gave him a BIG KISS! It was so sweet. I will be moving to Chicago in the summer… but will continue to bring my girls here! Love, Love, Love this family and will never go anywhere else! No comparison.

Mike is FANTASTIC! I’m a first time nervous puppy mom and Mike put my mind at ease immediately! I was nervous because my Boston Terrier is small and they have a lot of big dogs but I have ZERO to worry about! My puppy was very happy there! We even peeked in on her when we came back and she was happy and playing! This place has a great family feel and everyone is very friendly. So thankful we found a fun place for our baby to burn off some energy!

I took my dog, Bear, here on the recommendation of a co-​worker.
I have taken Bear for daytime play and training.
My dog is very high energy and after 4 hours I picked her up and she fell asleep on the car ride home! That never happened at any other dog care place. the facility really encourages dogs to run around and GET THAT ENERGY OUT! Which is great when we get home we can get the calm cuddler we adopted in the first place.
In regards to the training. Mike told me that in two sessions he would have bear trained. I scoffed but carried on. He wasn’t lying. Two one hour sessions later and bear is walking on the leash without pulling, can sit and stay seated for long periods, and has learned doggie manners.

Just got back from our vacation and got to pick up our pup from his! My Pomeranian Gojira had a blast here! First off I have to say I stopped in for the first time unannounced and was greeted by so many happy friendly faces! I got to take a tour of the facility and instantly came home to tell my boyfriend how comfortable I felt while visiting and that I would have no fears of leaving our best friend with them! Now that is not something I commonly do. The facility was nice and clean and while touring everyone just looked so happy to be there. They even spoke to each dog by name cleaning laughing and having a great time. We are new to the area and also gave us so recommendations for all things pup in our area! While on our vacation we got to check their Facebook page and see our pup playing and having a fun time! It was a wonderful touch! Gojira got a complimentary bath before checking out and was so excited to see us but looked like sad to leave all his new friends at the same time! We can’t thank Mike and Jen and the whole staff enough! Gojira will be back soon for his next vacation!

Bear with me, this is a pretty detailed account. I felt compelled to share my account in light of what has transpired with Digger. Here goes… I scheduled an appointment for a training consultation for my 5 pound rescue pup in August 2015. Upon arriving, I was questioned by the owner asking «what I was doing there?» The daughter stated I was here for a training consultation. The owner and the daughter went back and forth for a bit then, I was given a form to fill out with basic info. Pretty awkward for me! I met the «trainer» who did not interact with my pup at all. When he looked at my form he asked, why I was here? if I didn’t have any concerns. I had just adopted my pup and wanted her to learn basic commands with the main goal being the Canine Good Citizen or therapy certification. The trainer said he didn’t know if they did that there, but proceeded to tell me that one of his friends did that out West because they followed Phish and was able to bring their dog on the plane and to the shows. Um ok, not really relevant. He went to get the owner to find out. They both came back they with a pinch collar! I said that my vet did not recommend a collar for training especially a pinch collar due to her small size. The owner questioned, «who my vet was?» At that point I had enough, but was going to ride it out. At that point all the dogs in the kennel were barking (we were in the back hallway area) and the owner proceeded to open the door and yell at all the dogs to be quiet! Shocked! The owner then told me that I needed to get my dog on a collar in order to get the therapy certification. Ok I get it. I made it clear that I am a teacher myself, and whole heartedly believe in learning and training through positive reinforcement. I don’t care if the pinch collar mimics the mother dog. I don’t feel comfortable with that type of training on a 5 pound dog along, with going against what my vet advised. I left Baxter and Beasley with a negative vibe. They never interacted with my dog — which seemed odd if we were going to be doing training and the whole staff seemed sketchy (as I was leaving the daughter was smoking a cigarette right outside: not the most appealing.) I told my husband what happened and his reply was «absolutely not, not for my baby!» And I have to agree with him on this one. With that our decision was made Baxter and Beasley was not our choice for anything related to our pup. Everyone has their own opinions and experiences and this was mine.

I can’t even really give this place 1 star but I have to pick at least 1. I went in to check it out because I was looking for a place to have my kiddo groomed. I walked in and it smelled horrendous and I was barely greeted by the teenager sitting behind the receptionist desk. When she finally paid me attention I explained I was interested in getting my dog groomed but my dog has some major health issues (he has heart disease) and I would like to see the grooming facilities. I was denied and I didn’t even get to talk to the groomer. I walked out and thank god I did because shortly after this facility lost one of its boarders. One of the most unimpressive and unprofessional businesses I have ever encountered. Please all be warned — DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE…

Had an awful experience having my dog groomed here. My sister picked up my lab mix puppy (1.5 years old at the time-​60lbs) & they were very rude to her & rudely asked if my dog had ever had any training or been disciplined. He’s had training & is a well behaved dog just has a lot of energy. I usually take him to another groomer in town that absolutely love him but they happened to be all booked up that day. On top of that, they cut his nails too short (he is groomed every 4 – 6 weeks) & they were bleeding which I know can happen, but they didn’t even tell my sister who then got blood from his paws on her car seat. I called & they told me that he was bleeding because he doesn’t have his nails clipped often enough & basically it was my fault but they’d give me something to stop the bleeding if I came back. Mind you I had to keep my freshly groomed pup outside this whole time since he bled for hours which again, I realize he eventually would be rolling in the grass, but it was terrible seeing his paws stain the patio red with blood the whole time. Suffice it to say, I never went back.

Honestly I have nothing but positive things to say about Baxter and Beasley. My husband and I were at the end of our rope trying to manage our dog’s fear aggression issues when we decided to give Mike, and Baxter and Beasley a try. Not only were we amazed to see major progress with our dog in just two private training sessions, we have since been able to board him there, and bring him for doggie daycare… something we never thought would be possible given his history of fear and aggression towards other people and dogs. Because of the socialization and expert care he receives at Baxter and Beasley, he continues to make great strides in combatting his fear and aggression issues (and we continue to make great strides in managing them). We absolutely adore our dog… he is our baby… and we do not trust just anyone to take care of him. I can’t stress enough how difficult it was for us to trust anyone enough to leave our dog with them! All the staff at Baxter and Beasley have been very kind, professional, patient, and knowledgeable, and they promote transparency by allowing clients to tour their facilities at any time… even for unannounced visits. They are also very patient and understanding with pet owners (we may or may not have called almost daily to check on him while he was boarding over our recent vacation), and they post photos daily on Facebook so we can see him in action with all the other dogs. They are a compassionate and professionally run, family-​owned business, and as Palatine residents we are just so grateful to have them nearby. We highly recommend Baxter and Beasley. I only wish we had found them sooner!

A very good friend of mine and myself have been boarding our dogs here for years. I had a very sick dog that required extra care and they took amazing care of her. I never had to feel worried leaving her in their care. I am so grateful for their genuine care and concern for my Patsy. I have to add an additional comment. My friend, Kristy, told me that persons were posting negative reviews not based on actual facts or experience but word of mouth from another person. That seems to me, very unfair and unjustified on every level.

My dog loves Baxter and Beasley for doggie day care so much, she refuses to eat the mornings before she leaves. In her mind, eating will surely delay her arrival at «school.» I really appreciate how all the dogs are together, regardless of size. We have been to another day care in Palatine and they kept the dogs in groups based on size or weight. During day care, the dogs can have grooming or nail cut/​dremel, which is convenient and the price is right. The family is incredibly nice and they have a great selection of Acana products. I am very picky where I send my dog, especially since she picked up Parvo, Bortadella and worms at her last daycare. I understand that sometimes it is difficult to manage certain illnesses, but she has never been sick in a year. They even post pictures of what the dogs are doing on their Facebook page every day.

Dropped off my dog for a week and was not happy to pick up a filthy dog after being told they would bathe her prior to a scheduled pick up time. The dog was disgusting. The last thing we wanted to do upon returning from vacation was wash a filthy puppy .

Brought my pup back today and the Unilocal review was discussed in a professional manner. We explained our issue and expect Baxter to follow through with the expectations they set forth. Hopefully our pick up in 2 days will warrant an updated rating of Baxter.

I gave Baxter another shot and spoke with an individual who explained the communication issue upon my first visit. I’m happy that I now understand why my dog wasn’t given a bath and it makes complete sense now although it wasn’t communicated properly the first time they did apologize and correct the situation. My dog seems happy after visiting here and I like how they post photos I’ve heard during their stay.
