These folks are GREAT! My car developed a rattling sound in the undercarriage. I called in to see about getting an appointment for noon today, as they are fairly close to my work and I thought I could use my lunch hour to get the work done,. Also, they were very highly rated on Unilocal.There were a number of cars there when I arrived, so I was worried that it might take a long time. Nope! They diagnosed the loose heat shield quickly, and had it fixed in under a half hour! Unilocal was right on track with the great reviews for these folks!!.

My family has been taking our cars here for over 15 years. Customer service is outstanding and Joe and CJ do a tremendous job of explaining the problem. They handle a wide range of repairs and when I had a transmission issue, they passed me along to a specialist who is just as honest and professional as these guys are. They are the best.

Took my car here for performance exhaust welding job. Joe and CJ were very friendly and reasonable. I had to take my car multiple times due to wrong parts (which I purchased by mistake), but Joe accommodated some time to fit into the Saturday schedule to get my car done without any extra charge. Also, big props to CJ for his welding job. My bolt on exhaust system is completely welded nicely, everything lines up without any leaks. Very happy customer!

The flex pipe on my Audi failed. The dealer was unhelpful and I was quoted over $ 500 for the replacement pipe — just the pipe!
Joe was great, showed me what he was going to do; basically cut out the old pipe and welded a new flex pipe in. All done in a morning. Just had a look tonight and a very tidy job. I am very happy for less than $ 200. Definitely recommend these guys.

These guys are the best! I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee– I am not willing to give it up yet. It needed a new compressor. CJ explained the whole process to me and made me feel very comfortable with their work. I originally got a quote in Chicago with a different repair shop. After speaking with CJ and Joe I knew if was worth the trip to Palatine to get my car fixed with them. Do not go to anyone else. These guys will take car of your car! My father brings his cars here and now I will refer everyone I know to them!

I brought my 2007 Volkswagen to this shop this past Tuesday, August 12. I don’t know anything about mufflers or exhausts, but I knew that my car was waking the dead and that needed to be fixed immediately. Joe W. greeted me, got my keys, got my car up on the lift and showed me what was wrong. He explained what he was going to do (re-​sleeve the exhaust), said it would take about an hour and cost about $ 100. Perfect. Work was done in the allotted time, and my bill was exactly what he said it would be. I drove home happily.
A few hours later, I was getting in my car to run another errand and I couldn’t get my key in the ignition. I was able to get my spare key, and then my regular key, in and through a few trips Tuesday evening and several errands on Wednesday, I had no problem. Whatever had happened with the ignition had to have been a fluke.
Imagine my surprise and dismay when I tried to start my car this morning (Thursday, August 14) and once again, I couldn’t get the key in. Tried my other key and it was worse than before. I was especially concerned because I was on my way to babysit my toddler nephew so my sister could go to a dentist appointment. I let her know what was going on and my next call was Discount Muffler and Brake.
CJ answered the phone and I told him what the problem was. I knew this sounded crazy — they worked on my exhaust, not my ignition, but I never had this problem until I was at their shop. Now, I know it helps that I live less than a mile away, but CJ — who wasn’t even the one who worked on my car earlier in the week — dropped what he was doing and was in my parking lot in like, 5 minutes.
With some lubricant, elbow grease and persistence, CJ had my ignition working less than 10 minutes later. I apologized for not having any cash on me but CJ insisted he wouldn’t accept anything any way — it was no problem, so quick and easy fix. This is a business that just got themselves a repeat customer.
(Oh, and meanwhile, I heard back from my sister, and our dentist of 25 years wouldn’t consider taking her a few minutes late for her appointment (I could have gotten a train to her house if my car ultimately wouldn’t start) because her appointment was the last slot before their lunch break. I’ve said it before and I will say it again: Health care providers could learn a LOT from service professionals!)

So I went to Audi and big surprise they said I needed an entire exhaust system for about $ 2k. My service adviser kindly suggest that I check and see if there was anyone local on Unilocal or Angies list. Enter Discount Muffler and I couldn’t be happier. For about $ 200 they replaces the pipe and had me back out the door in about an hour and a half. Great experience and hopefully I don’t have to come back and see them again soon!

I’ve been coming here for the last 15 years or so and even though I no longer live in the area, I still drive out here when I need anything done on my car. Everyone there is very honest and knowledgeable. You can feel confident that they will never charge you for anything you don’t need and they usually even go above and beyond what you’re paying for. Highly recommended.

My family has been coming here for years. Joe has been superb with all of our vehicles and is very honest with their work. Most recently, I came in with an oil change and filter (I had brought the materials myself). I couldn’t get the plug out of the oil drain because it was stripped. They removed the bolt and changed the oil at no charge to me! Awesome stuff. Keep up the good work.

I won’t take my vehicles anywhere else! Joe will NOT steer (no pun intended) you wrong. If you don’t need the work done, he won’t recommend it be done. The only will fix things that need fixings. They are straight shooters with your best intersts in mind. Definitely ask for JOE when you call.

Have brought two cars here for new exhaust systems, they do quality work and seems decent prices and have friendly thorough staff. Don’t feel like I’m getting a great deal which is why no 5 stars, but I would for sure recommend to friends/​family for exhaust work!

My brakes were squealing, so I called for an estimate. Price was very reasonable considering the fact that a place just down the block was asking for almost twice the amount. I needed the car back the same day, so they fit me in. Brought the car in, Joe took me around and showed me the condition of my brakes and struts. I waited less than an hour and they were done replacing my ceramic pads and it’s hardware. They adjusted my rear disk brakes for free too.
The guys know what they’re talking about, I’d definitely recommend them.

Straight forward and honest. Won’t pressure you into what you don’t need. Best prices around.

Not bad guys but I have usually been able to find much better deals in the area.
