There is a huge population of Koreans in New Port and a high demand for Korean style sashimi, I’d highly suggest opening a restaurant here or deliver. $$$ for the business.

Sashimi is fresh but could have used better cuts. The tangs and udon are good. However, the lunch special menu is great. for about $ 13 you get so much food. Overall food is just above average, but we are fan of the specials!

Delicious, amazingly fresh sashimi right out of the tank! We had the special for two… Multiple courses of soup, salad, and sashimi with side dishes of tempura, noodles, and vegetables. Fantastic value.

I enjoy eating seafood and this place offers a wide variety of seafood. I had the opportunity to try a wide range of items: steamed fish to raw fish. I’m not a big fan of maeun tang, but this restaurant offered a different spin on maeun tang that I never tried before. They put lobster in their maeun tang! The lobster was fresh because before they served the maeun tang they had the lobster on a platter still alive. Service here was good, the waiter was attentive and always refilled our drinks. Price wise I would say fair considering this was a seafood joint. I would definitely return if I’m ever in Jersey again. I would recommend this place for anyone who enjoys eating raw seafood.

I mean baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad smell. So bad! Worst Korean seafood place ever. I feel sorry for customers who go there just because this is only Korean style seafood restaurant in town.

Good Korean food specializing in seafood, sashimi and sushi. Ordered both traditional Korean stews and the raw fish. Service was excellent and there was plenty of the Korean side dishes, banchan. We had several lunch specials which they have until 3pm and are good deals. Service was quick and they did a good job of checking on us to see if we needed anything else several times throughout the meal. Overall recommend.

One of the food tasted very weird and wrong so we told her how it taste but the feed back was very wrong. She said other customers did not say anything about this so this should be good. So obviously she does not care how four of us think. also she was lying because there were only 3 groups of customers and we were the only group who ordered expensive combo that comes with fried chicken with sauce on top. Also, she offered us to leave and have our last course meal to go because we had two kids with us. Our kids werent rude to anyone because we constantly took them out side before they draw any attention. We also had our own room so they can’t bother anyone in that restaurant. Also most important. $ 200 food did not taste so good. We will never go back to this restaurant.

Everytime I come here, I get the«teuk jungshik» which is a combo of sushi, sashimi, and a roll that comes with an additional soup or udon dish, tempura, and egg roe rice. This is one of the best deals I’ve seen in a korean Japanese restaurant. They give you a surplus of side dishes and foods that come with your combo. If you are a person who loves trying a variety of foods in one sitting, this is the place to be!

I am a huge sushi fan, and I am giving 5 stars just for their amazing lunch special. Most lunch specials are during the week but DHSS’s is on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Their lunch special menu is extensive, but one item for $ 11.99 you get rolls, sushi, sashimi, soup, salad, and fried tempura. you also get banchan(side dishes) galore. And its not crap quality but their fresh stuff. umm what more can you want? Yes the entrance looks shady but once you get past that you will discover your new favorite place to eat on the weekends. i literally have been telling everyone about it. Other than their lunch special, DHSS is one of those sushi places where you can order those huge boats filled with all just sushi. I took my family out to dinner here once and it was great because they can accommodate big groups.

I feel like this place has been around since I was a little kid… which was a really long time ago. I remember tagging along with my parents and their friends whenever they had reunions with their friends and they would have a feast filled with lots of whole fish and soju. They seemed to enjoy themselves but I never went on my own until my friend told me about their ridiculous lunch special. Being a sucker for great lunch specials, I had to check it out and it did not disappoint. When you walk into the place, it seems like you’re walking into a shady underground dungeon. It wasn’t well lit and the décor and furniture looked like it hadn’t been changed since I was a little kid. If they add some strobe lights, it could be easily converted into a seedy nightclub. But on to the actual food. For $ 12, you get sushi and sashimi assortment plus vegetable tempura(fried perfectly), small grilled mackerel, and a choice between udon or spicy fish soup. The food was all very solid. Actually what impressed me most about the meal were the plates and silverware they used. They brought out the sashimi on this really fancy rock. The sushi came out on a clean wooden board. The bowls and utensils were nice as well. I haven’t eaten here for dinner but I imagine if you were willing to drop some cash, you could have a pretty righteous feast here. Overall, this isn’t a place you want to bring a date to, but if you’re craving fresh fish with some fellow friends, it wouldn’t hurt to check this place out for reasonably priced lunch special.

I love their lunch special! Complete with an assortment of sushi and sashimi with many plates of banchan(side dishes) and even a grilled saury fish on the side. You definitely will leave their place full after their lunch special. Their udon isn’t the best however… nevertheless all that food for under $ 20 is an amazing value! I definitely plan to come back soon for their lunch again.

Awesome!!! Fresh foods, so much banchan, reasonable price, and great customer service! We had the sashimi course C, $ 90, for me n my husband. So much food… could certainly be for 3 people. It had the sashimi plate, soup, noodle, porridge, rice, salad, tempura plate, n so many banchans. The sashimi plate even had the whole abalone(known to cost like $ 20 per one), so we were very impressed. Had a wonderful time n highly recommend the place!

Came in for a lunch special over the weekend was thoroughly impressed. The amount of food and the quality of the ingredients is great. 6 pieces of hwae, 5 pieces of nigiri, about 5 or 6 pieces of tempura, and your choice of udon or maewoontang for $ 12. Can’t argue with that. Much better than the lunch specials at any of the seafood places in Queens area. Service is good and the restaurant has a bunch of little private rooms for your party if you want a more intimate setting.

Pretty standard Korean Hwe(sashimi/raw fish) restaurant. Can’t say I was overly impressed. It was just O K. I really wish Bada Story would get their act together so I can start going there more often. Because Bada Story has a much better assortment of seafood than Dong Hae Su San. The actual quality of seafood, though, was very good. Tasted extremely fresh. Our platter for 6 people came with fluke, yellowtail, salmon belly, abalone, skate fish, and mackerel. Kind of weak in the selection department. No sea squirt, no conch, no sea urchin, no monkfish liver, no sea cucumber. Seriously lacking. You have to order alot of the other things separately. Also you have to order the San Nak Ji(live baby squid) separately also. The sides were good, but nothing to write home about. The codfish soup was also decent, not great. I really wish they had crusted sea salted shrimp like most other places do. The service is quick, such is the standard at most Korean Hwe places. I like that they ask you if you’ve finished before taking your seafood plates(Bada Story doesn’t). I will probably come back here because Bada Story is just too hard to enjoy despite having better quality food. The arrogance of the Bada Story people is just too much to stomach.

There are so many options for great Korean-Japanese food in the Fort Lee/Palisades Park area, but I love this restaurant in particular for their unique lunch specials. Yes, it can be a little pricey($ 10 – 12 per person?), but you get SO much food in return. I’m a big fan of their al bap, which is white rice topped with katsuobushi, tobiko in varying colors(orange, black, green — very pretty!) and nori. It sounds kind of strange, but it tastes amazing. It’s actually part of a lunch special combo with dwenjang jjigae, which comes out bubbling hot. Their ban chan is great too — they give you a whole grilled mackerel as well as egg jjim(steamed egg with scallions on top), which is one of my favorites.

Dong Hae Susan is a Korean restaurant that specializes in sushi and sashimi. The restaurant is located on Grand Avenue in Palisades Park, a bit off from the main street of Broad Avenue. Given its location, this is the real reason this place is still a hidden gem. There is a private parking lot next to the restaurant. All the times I’ve been here, is mainly to order the sashimi platters. This comes with a ridiculous amount of fresh sashimi. In addition to that, there is plenty of Korean side dishes to accompany the order. These side dishes are also known as banchan. What you get may vary from time to time, but I’ve gotten fresh oysters on the half shell, japchae grilled corn with cheese, tuna sashimi over salad, grilled shrimp, tempura shrimp and vegetables, kimchi, cold soba noodles, and mussels stew to name a few. On a number of occasions, I had the Sashimi set C for $ 120 that comes with 50 plus pieces of fresh, high quality sashimi. There’s tuna, red clam, white tuna, abalone, sea urchin, yellowtail, salmon, mackarel, and salmon from what I’ve had in my dining experience. You’re paying top dollar and this is good for at least 4 – 5 people. If you’re really hungry, maybe 3 people can eat all of this food. After you finish eating sashimi, they bring out even more food which is soondubu made usually from the fresh fish leftover from the sashimi that was just filleted off of it earlier in your meal. This goes best with a hot bowl of white rice. The décor in the restaurant is mostly dark wood. Each table seats around 4 – 6 people and the restaurant is great for groups. There are high dividers between each table, so you get semi-private seating. The service is very good, as they bring out more tea or water whenever you need it. Recommend Dong Hae Susan if you live nearby in NJ or have access to a car if coming from NYC.

This place has the greatest lunch special of all time, hands down. Sushi, sashimi, vegetable tempura, grilled fish, kaeranjjim, and your choice of either maeguntang or udon. You get all this for $ 12. TWELVEDOLLARS. And they don’t cheap out on the quality. A lunch special like this in a restaurant on Broad Ave or Koreatown would be upwards to $ 18 bucks.
