Specialties

Bikram Yoga University Village hosts a full schedule of classes catering to all levels — beginning to advanced students. The new Bikram Yoga University Village is a state-of-the-art facility, with the comfortable, luxurious ambience of a spa, including well-appointed men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers. Bikram Yoga is a system of 26 poses done in a room heated to 105-degees F with a humidity of 50-percent. The goal of Bikram Yoga is to improve people’s general wellness. Bikram Choudhury created and copyrighted his system to stimulate and restore health to every muscle, joint, and organ of the body. According to Bikram’s instruction, performing the poses in a heated studio facilitates deeper stretching and injury prevention, while reducing stress and tension.

History

Established in 2011.

When paths crossed for Kim Tang and Denise DuBarry Hay, first at their children’s school then at yoga, they soon realized they shared a common goal — to open a Bikram yoga studio.

«It became obvious that it was a match made in heaven,» said Tang, director and co-owner of Bikram Yoga University Village in Palm Desert. «Each of us could bring something to the table.» Both Tang and co-owner DuBarry Hay were mothers who practiced yoga, and both had children who had taken up yoga.

Their dream was realized a month ago when the nearly 5,000-square-foot Bikram yoga studio opened in the new University Village center. DuBarry Hay has practiced Bikram yoga for over 30 years and owned Malibu Yoga before moving to the desert 20 years ago. Tang started her practice 6 years ago and is such a dedicated practitioner that she won the Southern California Regional Yoga Asana Championship in 2010. They are both passionate about bringing yoga and the healthy benefits of it to the Coachella Valley.
