J Russell! The Salon

I went to see Keri Gutierrez a couple weeks ago at J. Russell Salon to get a new haircut! For context, I got a life-​scarringly awful haircut from a random salon in Vermont 3 years ago, and I haven’t let anyone touch my hair at all since then… yes, for THREE YEARS. My hair was a mess… completely dead and weirdly uneven all over. Keri was incredibly patient with me, heard my anxieties, spent time looking at a few pictures I brought in for inspiration, and she ended up doing a fabulous job. My hair looks exactly like one of the pictures I brought it, and I’m still really pleased with the cut several weeks later. She nailed the «professional yet sexy» look, and I’m very happy. I sincerely wish I lived closer so that I could see Keri regularly. Thanks so much, Keri!

I decided today to finally take the plunge and get my ends trimmed.
After having had a horrible experience with the last hair stylist I went to, I was leary to do it, but because I am planning a hair donation, needed to get it done to take care and maintain growth.
I have to say Ally not only was a pleasant welcoming stylist to the salon, but also took time to get to know what I wanted, but also took a little time to give some pointers on getting my hair where I want it.
Way to go Ally! Ill be back!

Got a simple manicure from Miki, she did an amazing job. She was so sweet and just made my experience fabulous. I would highly recommend you ask for her service when getting your nails done

Absolute worst experience! I called to ask about an oxygen facial which they advertise. I asked that the facial be the actual real oxygen facial which is done with a machine. They told me that yes that was not a problem they offer that service and made an appointment for 1 PM. I had some time in between doing errands and my facial so I sat down and had some lunch and gave myself a good 20 minutes to go 2 miles and check in early. First of all their address is on El Paseo in Palm Desert but they are actually on Highway 111. I went round and round and finally called and the girl gave me wrong directions sent me down the wrong end of El paseo. I then finally found the salon. When I went in with the aesthetician she explained to me that she doesn’t do the oxygen facial with the machine and I specifically asked for that. She then went out and brought me back a card of a doctors office to call and book an appointment there. She then asked me if I had had a paraffin facial and told me that she was really good at those. I was absolutely furious and asked to talk to the manager. I explained the whole thing to the manager and she told me that it was a mistake that they don’t really offer those facials and asked me what I would like her to do. I told her number one I would like you to tell people the truth about the services that you offer. Number two tell people where your salon is if they have not been there before and number three take the wrong address off of your website and put actual directions to the salon. I would never recommend the salon. It looks like they have tons of individual contractors that rent space there. Not a professional looking business.

This is the BEST salon in the desert! It is beautiful and the staff is fantastic! Heidi has transformed me completely with a new sassy haircut, and she transformed 2 of my friends completely! I also had Laura do my hair for Halloween and my makeup was done a beautiful young girl (I forgot her name, I am so sorry) I was Marilyn Monroe and the experience was amazing! I would encourage everyone to try the salon, I promise you wont regret it!

I went to J Russell to get my color done by Tanya Cyser to fix a color job someone at a different salon gave me that I didn’t like. Tanya was very patient and sweet. Now my color looks terrific… It turned out exactly how I wanted. I highly recommend her!

Keri did a beautiful job on my hair. My hair was a mess, multi colored with brassy ends. She put in small highlights that look natural and toned out the brassiness. My hair looks amazing!!! I couldn’t be happier. Thanks Keri!!!

Ally has been doing my hair and make up for about 8 or 9 years ! She does such a great job. She always asks me what I want to do and I always go with her suggestion because she is the artist! We’ve done long hair, short hair and back to long hair! She’s also has put high lights and low lights in my hair, just enough to still keep my natural red hair looking natural, but with a sun kissed look I love that she goes to hair shows and continues her education. She always does amazing make up and helps me pick out the best colors for my skin tone. She is a true artist! Thanks ally

I went to see Keri today because I heard that she was great at fixing disasters! I had my hair done 2 days ago at a Salon in Marina Del Rey called Killer Hair by a guy named Sal (who also does hair in Palm Springs… beware!)…should have been called ‘Hair Killer’ beacuse not only was my hair orange and green (when I had asked for natural looking highlights with a few blonder pieces in front for summer) but it was also now very damaged, dry and brittle__…this morning I pulled a large chunk of hair out of my brush — Omg and yuck! That never happens! I also was unable to run my fingers through my hair without them getting stuck… my hair was really bad. …but tonight, I am thrilled! Keri not only evened my hair out and fixed the color to give me back my beautiful blond color with depth and dimension but she also did a treatment and cut to restore it’s luster and health. I can’t believe the transformation that took place — I walked out of the salon with healthy looking, smooth and natural looking hair! No big chunky color, no green and no more tangles when I run my fingers through it. It is silky smooth. Thank you SO much Keri — you are amazing!

I hesitate to recommend hair stylists to strangers, but my experiences with Tanya Cser have been among the best. Tanya is a perfectionist (no detail is too small) She is consistent and listens to what you’re looking for in a hair style. But best of all, she obviously very talented!!! Tanya (Cser) Nolan has been my stylist for over 15 years and I trust her completely with my hair. Her knowledge and dedication to achieving client satisfaction is outstanding, which consistently results in perfect highlights, colors and cuts. She listens to her clients, is honest with them and is one of those rare people that can look at you & knows the color and cut that is right for you. Her positive attitude and endless energy make every appointment so much fun! I have and will continue to highly recommend Tanya!

I love this place. The atmosphere, the location, the employees, and especially 1 in particular. My hair stylist Ashton K. Hanson. This woman is amazing. Cut, color, blow out, she does it all. 6 years I have been seeing her and nobody else makes me love my hair like she does. Her high energy, great friendly attitude and amazing care she gives to all of her customers makes you feel like you are getting VIP treatment. She is a true professional and quite the comedian. If you’re looking for a new stylist who will provide a comfortable and pleasant experience, ask for Ashton. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I absolutely enjoy every minute of this paradise in the desert. It is one of the very few places that know how to cut a mans hair. From barber cut to stylish Keri can do it all. From the pleasant smiles of Meg and the crew to the minute I walk out the experience is one that’s hard to match.
Also, the shampoos by Julie are amazing I take care of them and they take care of me.

Is anyone in need of The Hair Angel? Well, I found her.
Her name is Keri Gutierrez and I want to tell you some things about her.
The weave that she performed on my head (with what she was challenged with) was Extraordinary! What an angel, compassionate, loving, caring and top of the line Master Hair dresser.
I thank you Keri for not only the great job that you performed on my hair (and that you kept it all on my head), but for your caring attitude, tenderness and for holding my hand through it all. You were so conscientious, checking on me every 2 minutes, and that felt like a gaurdian angel to me.
I learned that she is 4^th or 5^th generation hair dresser. She has allot of passion and if you are blonde, brunette, red, or messed up multiple colors, she is your ticket. I am a bleached blonde weave with low lights.
And MEN! She is your Barber. We had a short conversation about her Barber specialty, cuz my father was a barber in Los Angeles his entire life and was one of the best out there! He blended hair like no others! Keri and I are on the same page about hair!
What a great salon, everyone works as a team.

One of the most classiest salons in Southern California. They defiantly know how to deliver a great service on a very high level.

Tanya Cser is an amazing hair stylist here. I have been seeing her for almost 10 years now and will not go to anyone else. My hair is long and she really knows how to style it to maintain it at its most beautiful. She is an advanced Colorist and will spend as much time as needed on you to get the look you want just right. She has perfected her craft and stays up to date with the latest techniques and trends through continuous training. If you want your hair done by the best, see her!
The salon itself is beautiful with impeccable customer service. It’s always busy so try to make an appointment.

I can’t believe this place charges $ 35 to get your hair blow dried after you just paid $ 60 to get it cut. Everything is a la carte here so be careful!!! I even read about this with the other Unilocal reviews and when the receptionist asked if I wanted my hair dried I said no.
After my cut (she washed it prior), the stylist started combing my hair and when she started blowdrying it, I thought it was a bit weird since I had said no earlier. I should have said something but I was naïve thinking since she wasn’t using a brush and not creating a style, that it must be some general dry so you don’t walk out looking like a wet dog. Nope, my dry hair with no style, just plain old straight cost me $ 35. LAME!
I could have went down the street to All Tressed Up for an amazing blowdry for $ 35, OMG!!! Or even bought a brand new dryer and hair serum. Never coming here again.
The place screams of 1980 and the equipment looks outdated, so do some of the stylists.
