History
Established in 1954.
For the past 50 years, the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation and its predecessor organizations have provided a safe haven for animals in need of sanctuary.
Robert and Mae Noell, who purchased the original sanctuary property in 1954, toured throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states in the fifties and early sixties as a husband and wife performing team.
The Noells were extraordinarily attached to their chimpanzee stars and made every effort to insure their comfort and welfare.
Today, the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit 501©3 organization home to over 100 animals including Chimpanzees, Orangutans, Monkeys, Reptiles, and more. Whether coming to the Sanctuary after no longer being able to be cared for as a personal pet or retiring from the laboratory and film industries, the Sanctuary is here to provide these magnificent animals with a safe haven to spend out the rest of their lives in peace and with dignity.
