Revivals

Revivals has been a fixture here for many years but has been on a long steady decline. Inch by inch, foot by foot, the square footage dedicated to «new» furniture has increased while used thrift store item real estate has shrunk. What they have is marked up to a ridiculous degree. A small framed art item with a cutesy saying was priced at $ 12. On the backside was the original pricetag from Ross, where it had originally been $ 16 and was marked down to $ 7 (because it probably didn’t sell). Unfortunately, such pricing is not an exception. The markup here is insane.
I have spent many years volunteering with a variety of charitable organizations. Most volunteers are kind, dedicated, caring people who want to give back to their communities. Sadly, there are a few volunteers out there who, if given a little authority, turn into raving power-​mad dictators. These can be found at Revivals. Their three registers at two different counters situated near two different exits, have someone now directing traffic who insists you get out of line and go walk over to the other register at the other counter, and even if you say you’re fine (because you’re next in line for a cash register), *insists* you walk over to the other register — and when I walked over to the other register, found two people in line in front of me. Then they have someone at the door who goes through your bags and checks your receipt, even though you’ve walked just four feet from the register and she watched you do it. Do they such a huge shoplifting problem that they have to employ TSA-​style tactics at the door? Here’s a hint… lower your prices to normal thrift-​store values, and maybe you won’t have so many people trying to sneak stuff out.
In my years here, each time I go here it’s a longer interval until I come back. It was nearly a year since I’d been here, and unfortunately, this is my last visit.

We were in Palm Springs on vacation, and found this place, and found a great couch that we totally wanted! Everyone at the store was so helpful, as we weighed the decision rather or not to buy, and how to transport back home, some 500 miles away. They really helped us figure it out. Then, when we went to pick up, the couch was nicely wrapped, and they loaded it for us. Everyone was so nice, and best of all, the purchase proceeds go to a great cause. What a wonderful group of people, who work so hard to help those in need living with HIV and AIDS. They have 3 stores — if you’re ever in Palm Springs, go there!

Update re: the vinyl section: It looks like someone is looking up the median prices for each record on
and pricing them that way. I couldn’t figure out the odd number pricing ($ 19, $ 23, $ 29) until I looked up the records I saw there and the figures matched. So record collectors, you can buy on ebay or discogs OR go to Revivals thrift shop and pay for the same record there and it’s a donation to a good cause. There are no bargains or finds here. You are basically paying retail. Good luck.

This place is alright… I have never seen any decent clothes & most of their stuff is way over priced! I’m guessing because it’s Palm Springs lol. lower the prices & bring in some good stuff

I’ve been to the 2 other locations in the valley and these stores never disappoint. This one had some great furniture like the others, but unfortunately I wasn’t as lucky to find things we liked at this one. That didn’t break my spirit though. I’m gonna keep shopping at all the locations. I totally love revivals!

I bought a «new» matress, boxspring, and queen size frame. It was all wrapped in plastc as it was new: NOT! There was no disclosure that it was a cleaned USED matress. After 6 month, my hips hurt, and the center sunk in. I spent $ 439.00 for this setup. I just bought a Serta queen size box spring and matress.
Matress is the orthopedic cooling memory phone pillow top but firm underneath. Delivered, no tax or delivery charge with $ 11.00 recycle fee paid to California, all for $ 749.00. Slept passed 4 nights like a baby.
I was thinking of suing Revivals Cat City for false afvertising. I have a year to do so (law school pays off)

If I could give the Palm Springs location zero stars I would. We went in today to pick up some furniture today. We went to the warehouse to load it in our truck and the guy who was «helping» didn’t even want to help us just gave us attitude while the supervisor says he has to go to lunch! Really??? I’m not strong enough to load that furniture. Wow! Don’t even waste your time complaining they all stick together… lousy service

Great selection of items from furniture, to clothing, to household goods. We came away with a BRAND NEW 6 ft rug for less than $ 100. it was very soft and not very tough like the other area rugs that we saw at Target and Wal-​Mart. YOu can find a great bargain here if you’re willing to look for it!

BUYER BEWARE
This particular thrift store carries known Walmart items for double the cost. Their pricing is absolutely absurd, their furniture that comes from China (the same place as Walmart furniture) not only is inappropriately priced but is most often times three to six times the price of furniture anywhere else in the valley. They have queen and king size comforters a brand carried only by Walmart for $ 49 at revival $ 110, they have paintings found in Walmart, walmart price $ 25 Revival price $ 50. This seems to be a common theme among all the items. Many items in their store you can find elsewhere in the community from other purveyors of household goods. The only difference is where as locally owned and family operated businesses sell these household goods at a reasonable and fair price new and used, this is not revivals practice or moral code of conduct. they seem to not be bothered gouging all of their customers weather it be a used shirt for $ 18 that can be found new at Walmart for 10 or whether it be brand new furniture for hundreds of dollars that can be found some other honest business as much as 75% less!!! What GIVES???. This business seems to take advantage of the particular echelon of society that is in this area, hoping that they don’t venture into other low-​end businesses and see product for reasonable prices, they continue to overprice gouge and steal money from the public buy a practice that seems to be buying stuff from Walmart putting it up on their shells for twice the price. So buyers please beware when you have stuff in your basket here and you’re looking at buying it 100% guaranteed you can find it elsewhere for at least 50% off. This business advertising themselves as a charity but in fact they are greed mongers and would never give anything to anybody. Best of luck to you all. And in the other stores in the area with new and used stuff that are much more fair appropriate prices and more respectful and less rude to their patrons good luck to all

Decent place, friendly staff. Nice book selection, quite a bit of furniture and some smalls/​housewares. Huge lamp collection! Mix of donated things and estate buys. Estate buys are priced higher and most of the estate buy clothes seem new… tons of hawaiian type theme shirts/​dresses. Prices are not bad.

Stopped in here to see if we could find any coolness for our mountain cabin. Right when you walk in the door it hits you — the place smells worse than your grandma! (Not the one you love, the other one.) I felt like it was getting in my hair. It’s really gross.
The stuff is, well, mostly junk. It has this «I want to be cool, hip and modern» feel, but upon closer inspection it is like one off, not quite authentic knock offs of good furniture. It’s the kind of stuff you’d find at the third day, you know the Everything is 50% off day, of an estate sale which is where they probably get most… All? of what is in here.
I sat on a few cool looking chairs and probably got a lot of old man dust on me. If you made it a weekly haunt, although I don’t know how you would stomach the dead people smell, you might find some deals, but no sale here for me.

Greed is an ugly affair. So is disdain for loyal supporters. I give the two stars because I do find some good deals in here sometimes. And the counter volunteers are always fun and engaging and they can attest who comes in every day/​week.
However, the prices here are often laughable. For example, a *severely* cracked inexpensive green glass lamp (otherwise new and made in China) for $ 40? I wonder, who would part with $ 40 for a lamp that is so cracked it looks like it was dropped on the floor? I would save another $ 40 and buy a better made lamp that is not so badly damaged. Another lamp (also new and made in China) was priced over $ 300. I looked the same damn lamp up on WayFair and found it for $ 125.
Went to Angel View yesterday with a friend. He found a Tommy Bahama silk shirt for $ 1. He commented then that «It would be $ 25 at Revivals!» Wrong! We went to Revivals and the exact same shirt was $ 40!!!
A couple of weeks ago I purchased a six drawer dresser and two night stands here. I am almost 60 and could not possibly lift the nightstands, let alone the dresser. The clerk asked me if I was going to take it with me. I told him I had no way to lift them when I got home, even if the volunteers would help me get it in my tiny economy car, but I could come back in a couple days with help.
He yelled to a manager, «Is it o.k. if he leaves a dresser and night stands here to pick up Friday?» The manager looked at me and growled, «We don’t have room to store stuff here.» Uh, so why are you selling it here? Why don’t you have room? Because your supporters are so generous? Why don’t you have a «Only buyers who can take it today may buy our furniture» policy and signage. Or do you just prefer to spew bile at those who support the Desert AIDS Project regularly?
Yesterday, on my visit with my friend, they put out a sweet forged iron patio set. I really loved it and asked the same manager what the price was. Again, he growled, «We have not priced it yet» and walked away. I figured since they just put it on the floor, he would come back and price it. We waited 20 minutes while he completely ignored us while waking past us several times while we were sitting at the table. Finally, my friend asked if they were going to price it as we were interested in buying it. His reply, «Maybe in a half an hour. The truck is still not unloaded.» O.k., what does it take to price a donated item someone is interested in buying? I mean, what criteria do they use here? And why do the put stuff on the floor before they are able to price it because the truck is not unloaded? What?
Now, my final comment. I have a solid cherry armoire that is in mint condition. It cost $ 3000 brand new. Revivals advertises that they «consign» furniture. So, I called and was told to take a photo and send it. I did. The phone showed an expensive armoire in mint condition with not a mark on it. Here is the reply I got back;
” … The armoire is lovely but we would not consign it as we get similar pieces donated. We offer free pick-​up if you would like to donate it. Call us, at your convenience, if you’d like to schedule a pick-​up.“
So, Desert AIDS Project refuses donations that they don’t view as ‘potentially’ big enough? How is that? They never even examined this fine piece of furniture, or even asked me what I expected it would bring from consigning it? Nor did they bother to mention the percentage they would take from the sale? I was happy to donate whatever they take from a consignment sale to Desert AIDS Project. And, as a frequent supporter of Revivals and Desert AIDS Project, I can tell you I have NEVER seen a piece of furniture in the Palm Springs store as fine as this particular armoire. This, my friends, was not manufactured in China. Greed, plain and simple. Give it to us or we don’t want any of it.
So, I will donate elsewhere from now on. There are lots of charitable thrift stores in the desert, all worthy causes, that do not gauge their supporters or treat them with such cavalier disregard. This is a situation where volunteers donate hundreds of hours while paid staff cast an unattractive shadow on the entire operation.
PS I went to another thrift store today and bought a simlar forged iron patio set for a $ 150 donation.

Never find anything good here. Very sparse selection of grandmother appropriate mall clothes and 70s housewares. Most of it is taken up by weird consignment furniture.

What a terrible disappointment. I was in here for 35 minutes, and yes it was moderately but not overly busy, but a nod or «we’ll be with you» would have been nice. I went in today prepared to buy furniture. I asked a quick question of the man checking people out — he was not currently with another customer. Not having been in there before, but hearing great things, I didn’t know whether or not there was room for negotiation on in the furniture. he used a hand gesture to me as if he was brushing me off, right knee ice and said we have zero room for negotiation. And then he turned and walked away. Needless to say this is not a place I will return to. Maybe the other folks are as terrific as I have heard but man. Get a
new cashier because in guessing you’ve lost more business than just mine. Wow!

The place is filled with openly gay and welcoming volunteers. They are in support of the Aids project. The furniture they had were really nice for a great bargain. We enjoyed the place we wished we had a big truck to grab a nice leather couch. Sadly they do not deliver so bummed out

Revivals is located close to where I reside which is a great excuse to go there as often as possible. I have purchased so much casual clothing and jewelery from this place because of the great diversity of what they offer and, of course, their wonderfully low prices. I even bought a brand new mattress from them. I highly recommend a trip to Revivals. You’ll surely walk away with some great bargains.

My third time here. Lots of gently used clothes and many odds and ends for your home. In general everything is priced good but few items seemed a little high to me.

I’ve given myself 48 hrs. cool down period before writing this review.
I’d been shopping on-​line for a drafting table for several weeks hoping to find a good deal when of all things came across a professional drafting table at Revivals! It even had a professional parallel bar, wires and mechanics all in great condition. It was exactly what I needed and only $ 75. I could not believe my luck!
I called a friend with a truck and asked if he could help me pick it up and move it to my home. He said he’d be able to the next day.
I spoke with the full time warehouse employee and asked how much time do I have to pick it up if I bought it, he said 2 days. I said great, and asked if could he move it off the floor to warehouse after I buy it and I’d pick up the next day. He said he can do that but would be after he finishes unloading a truck and later that day.
I removed the big price tag and went to pay. I asked both the cashier (employee) and the volunteer assisting him if they’d be sure and put a sold sign on the table saying I didn’t want anything to happen to it. I also informed them that the warehouse guy (by name) would be moving to the warehouse later but I wanted to make sure it’s tagged sold so no confusion. They assured me it would be.
After paying I went back to the warehouse employee and said I’d paid for the drafting table so he can now move to the warehouse when he gets the chance and I’d be back next day to pick up. I told him the cashier is going to tag it sold. I said I was worried about people messing with the parallel bar and all and wanted to make sure it’s safe. He assured me it would be moved later that day.
I then went back and moved some chairs in front of the table to protect it from the hands of other customers. I then went back to the cashier and once again asked if they were going to put a sold tag on it. The volunteer asked if the cashier had given me a duplicate receipt he could tape on the table when he puts sold sign on it. I said no. Volunteer said as soon as the cashier finishes with current customer he’d get one from him. The cashier was privy to this conversation and knew what was going on. I said thanks I appreciate it and so you’ll take care of it? He said yes. I then told him the same concerns I had told the warehouse employee and said that’s why I was double checking. He said he promises he’ll put a sign on it for me.
The next day after rearranging my home office for the table I met my friend with his truck at the warehouse door to pick up.
Table could not be found! They resold it that morning to someone else!!!
Yep, the same employees were even working that morning that I spoke to extensively with my concerns when purchasing it. No one taking the blame only to say it must have gotten repriced when another customer said there was no price tag on it and wanted to buy it. Needless to say I’m still extremely upset over this after I went to such lengths to make sure it would be marked sold and moved off the floor.

So, what is Revivals???
Is it a Thrift store, a Consignment store or a Retail store?
Revivals prices have always been higher than other thrift stores over the years, but the thought was that it was for a good cause, but honestly, they are all good causes.
So now what we seem to have is a retail store masquerading as a thrift store. They are selling less than 2^nd rate items with an amazing mark up rate. Not only that, they are branching out with more stores.
What is going on here? Is this still for charity? Who is minding the money? Who is getting the bargain here? Did you over expand & not have enough donations??? How much of this goes to charity or DOES it go to charity anymore, cuz this is clearly one of the most successful thrift chain stores I’ve ever seen that IS NOT a thrift store. How do you continue to sell garbage and dilute what was once a highly regarded name in the valley?
