Description

Specialties

The Monkey Tree Hotel offers guests a hydrotherapy experience like no other in Palm Springs. Spend the day cycling through our newly built sauna and hot and cold plunge pools. By alternating between hot and cold in the centuries-old Nordic tradition, the body will first retain the heat then release it during the cold portion of the cycle, leaving you in a state of complete relaxation. The skin’s pores will be forced open then closed, helping flush the body of toxins. Your muscles will also relax, aiding in recovery from exercise. Whether you spend the day hiking in the mountains, shopping downtown, or training for your next triathlon, The Monkey Tree Hotel’s Scandinavian cycle is a perfect way to end the day.

History

Established in 2016.

The Monkey Tree Hotel was originally designed by desert modernist architect Albert Frey and built in 1960. After over 20 years of being run under a different name, the current owners have recently restored the property back to its mid-century modern style. The hotel reopened under its original name as The Monkey Tree Hotel in February 2016.

Meet the Business Owner

Gary F.

Business Owner

The new owners, husband and wife team Gary and Kathleen Friedle, wanted to create a destination for people like themselves: vacationers looking for a clean, spacious room; fresh, quality food; and a calm, cool atmosphere in which to unwind. This might include a workout and a massage, or it might be lounging by the pool with a book. They re-opened The Monkey Tree Hotel in 2016 with all this in mind. The smallest room on the property measures 300 sf (twice the size of other hotels in town), with the largest suite measuring 725 sf. The two largest rooms of the hotel also have their own 500+sf private patios, for the ultimate in seclusion and privacy. A continental breakfast including homemade granola and pastries is served weekdays, with a more extensive ala carte gourmet breakfast served on the weekends. The San Jacinto mountains, a 30-mile range of mountains with a peak of nearly 11,000 ft., are a mere 2.5 miles away.
