Economu Construction Inc

I was the listing agent for several Fannie Mae owned (REO) rehab properties. Fannie hired Economu Construction to perform the rehab work. The work was done on time and within the specified budget.
I had no problems with any of the work or workers. Things got done when they were supposed to get done and if there happened to be an issue with the work it was taken care of in a timely fashion and to my satisfaction.
I’ve worked with many general contractors over the years and I’ve found Economu to be one of the best.

The guy who does assessment is white, but all the handymen are illegal Hispanics — not speaking English — made a horrible job replacing sliding closet door. After 2 days the door fell out of the closet. They came over again to fix it. Put one screw. It held another day. After taking a closer look I noticed half of the hardware is missing. I would never recommend them to anybody.

I am a seasoned (40 years) real estate investor, and Certified Property Manager. I acquire orphaned and abandoned property all over the US that requires repair and restoration to bring them back to use. I used Economu Construction in 2011 for 4 homes in their area. Their work was excellent, on time, on budget. I still own those homes, and now need some work done. I will contact Economu again to assist me.

I recently moved into a house rehabbed by Economu Construction. I was blown away by the changes made to the house! For an older home it sure doesn’t show its age now. The attention to detail inside and outside was flawless. Our new neighbors have given the house so many compliments. They were so happy to see the eye sore turn into one of the nicest houses in the neighborhood. Thank you Economu Construction for making my house a home!

I was recently tracked down, through certified letter, by none other than Mr. Economu himself, along with his attorney, to remove my libelous
posting. Apparently, my frustrations were misguided and my understanding of my right to a recovery from Economu was misperceived. In light of receiving the aforementioned letter, I decided that I would not delete my review; instead, I will edit/​update using only the facts and perhaps get rid of the somewhat… colorful language from my previous review.
On 6÷18÷09, the listing agent of the seller, Fannie Mae (FM), forwarded two Maintenance & Repair Work Authorizations (Authorizations) approved by the Asset Manager (AM) to Economu Construction. The Authorizations were made in conjunction with one of the provisions of sale for the condo, which outlined that the buyer (me) would be entitled to a $ 5000 improvement credit. The Authorizations were dated 6÷17÷09 and the work was to be completed before I closed on the condo. Prior to closing, Economu was able to complete approximately $ 3000 worth of the contracted work to include purchasing and installing a dishwasher, painting the entire interior, and the clean up required after those services were completed. However, the remainder of the work, which included installing flooring in the kitchen and bathroom, glazing of the bathroom tub, and cleaning up, was not completed prior to closing. The sale of my condo closed and recorded on 6÷24÷09, and despite the fact that the work was not completed, I began to move my household goods into my condo, as it was my legal right to do so. The move had a slow start and ultimately, I moved the majority of my items during the weekend. While moving my items in on Sunday, 6÷28÷09, subcontractors hired by Economu arrived to complete the remaining work. However, since I was moving in, the contractors and I decided it would be best to postpone the work to another date. In an effort to maintain an open line of communication, my real estate agent was in contact with Economu Construction and upon realizing the sale was completed and the subcontractors would now need permission to enter the premises, supervision by me if they wanted to complete work, and other logistical challenges, it was agreed that Economu would refund me the remaining $ 2000 upon Economu’s receipt of payment from Fannie Mae. On 7÷7÷09, my real estate agent received an email confirming that the $ 2000 would be refunded. I waited a couple months before contacting Economu regarding the refund as I assumed FM had not paid them; however, upon talking to Economu over the phone, it was apparent that Economu had been paid by FM. On 9÷21÷09, my real estate agent sent an email to Economu Construction which forwarded the email from 7÷7÷09 outlining the information discussed above. On 9÷24÷09, Economu responded outlining their reasons for not providing a refund, which included two very reasonable arguments: 1) I was not their client and FM was and 2) the person who agreed to refund the remaining $ 2000, in writing and orally, was not authorized to do so. The email also outlined inaccurate information with regard to when I closed and when the workers were turned away; however, the main take away from the email appeared to be the fact that they were hired by FM, not me, therefore, any uncompleted work and related refund would be to FM, not me. Furthermore, the employee who said it would be ok to refund the money was not authorized to do so and also, no longer worked at Economu. Of note, all emails discussed above to Economu or from Economu were all from the same email address and there was never any reason to believe that the person who agreed to refund the money was not an authorized agent acting on behalf of Economu and within her realm of responsibility. Also, since all emails are from the same email address, it is difficult to draw the line between who has authority and who doesn’t. Based on this information, I provided Economu with one final notice demanding payment of the $ 2000 before I pursued them legally in small claims court on 9÷24÷09. On 9÷25÷09, I was contacted by a FM employee to discuss the final notice. After approximately two weeks, I received a letter and a refund from Economu Construction.
